I dont have a Vapor, but I have an older Trip10DX. Same body style except I have a water proof hatch on the back for dry storage. It has a foam block of foam behind the cockpit to keep it dry. I love it.

I got one for $100 in March and Ive loved it so far!

Mine and my wife's first kayaks were Old Town Vapors and were what we used on our first yakpacking trips. They were fine for beginner kayaks. They held a lot of gear, they're durable, and fairly stable, but they don't float straight at all. Those kayaks drift left, right, all over the place and were incredibly frustrating on long paddling river runs. After a couple of years battling with them, I knew I had to look for something better. I researched like mad and landed on the Wilderness Systems Aspire 105 for the shallow river paddling that I mostly do. The Aspire 105 is in a league of it's own and the OT Vapor can not compare in any way. I had no idea just how poorly the Vapor actually tracked until I got in a proper kayak. The Aspire 105 is in my opinion, the Cadillac of yakpacking yaks. The most comfortable, best dry storage, and with the skeg, it tracks like an arrow. I'm glad I cut my yakpacking teeth with the Vapor, but I don't miss it for a second.

I’d say your assessment of those two kayaks are spot on. My buddy has the aspire 105 and it’s just better, hands down. You’ll also pay twice as much but if you’re looking for a quality ride the aspire is great

I absolutely love the Old Town Vapor 10. It was my first kayak I ever purchased for myself. Bought my Vapor 10 back in college. It is a 10ft kayak that performs closely to 12ft kayaks in terms of tracking...if not better than some 12ft kayaks. The large cockpit is so nice. Can have gear ahead of you between legs or a pet. Also has excellent weight capacity for it’s size. Your pros and cons are pretty much spot on. I see this kayak frequently at $299 to $399. You pay more for the angler edition. $200 is a steal for that kayak. Old Town Vapors are built well and likely will last for many years. They make a add on optional hatch cover for that kayak. Hey Justin! Everything you said was on point. I could’ve talked about this boat for twenty minutes but alas tried to keep it short and sweet. Other than the seat have they changed anything since you first bought it? It’s their oldest kayak and tried and true at this point. Why change a good thing? The vapor will be a tool for years to come! If it had a launchair styled seat I probably would’ve kept it as my primary for longer

300?! What a score, I just ordered one online for $595 lol. It was the best price I could find online, others were asking up to $800 if they were even available...cheapest listing I found on Marketplace was $500. Prices have definitely gone up since this video! $300 used to be plenty for a nice kayak. $500 isn’t bad either!

So pumped for this yak I appreciate the review!! I pulled the trigger and ordered one from a local store by me and I know it'll fit my needs. This is a huge upgrade from the little 8ft sit on lifetime yak I've been using haha keep up with the great content!

Great review on the Old Town Vapour. I presently own the Vapour 12 and have been paddling it for the past 9 years. I started out in Ontario paddling rivers and lakes. I have used it for fishing, camping and day trips and absolutely love the kayak. We moved to Nova Scotia about 5 years ago and l have using the kayak on in land waters and on the ocean as well. Great videos and keep padding 👌

I love my Old Town Vapor 10. Went on my first kayak camping trip to the New River in Western NC in mine. Very stable well built boat. I've upgraded to a Perception Carolina 12 touring boat, but I still take my Vapor out and my wife loves it to when she kayaks. Great review Gatewood.

The Old Town Vapor 10 reminds me of my Perception Aquaterra Caspia. The Caspia didn’t have a Top Storage Bed, but used Bungee Cords, and had the (2) Foam Blocks for Floatation. I was looking at the Old Town Vapor 10, and Vapor 12. I recently settled on the Old Town 126 Loon Angler. I chose it over the Vapor because of the greater Cargo Capacity and the Dry Storage Area behind the seat. There isn’t any Foam Blocks because of the foam core design. I might look into an Old Town 110 Angler for a smaller kayak, and possibly the Old Town Predator MX. I already have the Old Town Sportsman Bigwater 132 Paddle (Predator 132), I was hoping to get in some Kayak Camping this year. I’m glad that you mentioned about the rear cargo bed filling up with water on the Vapor.

You’re spot on with that! Having fun and sending some fun rapids is what it’s all about. It’s no longer my primary but I still take it out on day trips occasionally. It’s just so easy to haul

I've had my OT Vapor 10 Angler for the last 10 years and taken it from the lakes and rivers of Texas up to the saltwater of the Puget Sound and it's been incredibly dependable and comfortable. I don't fish as much from it now but it holds up great, even with the strong currents here in Washington. I'd love to attach an electric trolling motor in the future but it's not too difficult to get moving quickly with a paddle. HIGHLY recommended.

Great video.. Lots of good information there for someone just getting into Kayaking like myself. I started last season with a two day overnight trip down the Colorado river and the seat on my cheapo Lifetime Tamarack was my biggest complaint. I might defiantly look for a used Vapor 10 with the upgraded seat or just save up a little for the Old Town loon 120.

$200 is a great deal! I often don’t even put them in the same category because they’re such different quality. Haha I conveniently left out my casts that ended up onshore or crazy short. Still only caught one fish all day. I’m learning!

I love my Vapor. I got the one with the hatch and I use a very thin Foldable Stadium Seat for Bleachers and it is perfect and comfortable for a 5 or six hour trip.

Have you ever considered adding a small 12v bilge pump? It’d be super easy to put in your boat and wouldn’t take much space. Then you’re through the rapids, switch it on, no stopping. I’d love to see your rigging on your Vapor. Could you give us a walkthrough of your setup? I also just picked up a 12’ Vapor based on this video. We’re down in Galveston. 👋 Love your channel! I think the battery would get wet and die somehow! Plus that setup would be quite heavy for a kayak. My vapor is 100% stock! No rigging at all

I live 12 miles up river of Old Town. The boat was designed to fish in the streams that feed into the Penobscot. Mostly anglers fishing for brook trout. The "trunk" is a well for your catch. That said, I have 3 OT kayaks. My friends work at the factory and the QC is superb. Happy paddling.

I will agree ,I own some very nice kayaks, and I own a vapor 10 as my light weight drop in creek fishing kayak, but I did change the set to a chair style seat from Brooklyn kayak company, it’s difference daylight and dark, still under 50 lbs, I own, a Jackson coosa HD, love too, and feelfree lures 10 and 13.5, wilderness system, Ride135 too, this little guy is great, easy to paddle and tracking and glides very well too, great second kayak for sure, even great in the lake

That vapor will always have a place in my heart!!

I have the vapor xt and bought my girl the tamarack. The vapor is slightly heavier but the hull design cuts through water and coasts really well. It rides straight. The tamarack is light but coasts poorly and when paddling straight it tends to slightly go left and right on each paddle. It’s good for a dog passenger and carrying items vs the vapor which has a large hull. The storage is bigger and water tight in the tamarack. I traded a vintage mongoose mtn bike (110$) for the vapor and it came w a carbon Carlisle paddle and life jacket. Bass pro shop was selling them for 599$ . Great review! I have same color w matching paddle

That’s one of the best trades I’ve ever heard of. And you got the XT which is the best version of the vapor. I agree with you that the vapor is a fast boat. Whenever I use it versus the ascend I’m blow away with how well it paddles. I want to try out the new seat too because mine sucks!

The Vapor 10 is a great starter kayak. I bought my new about 7 years ago and used mine for EVERYTHING. Used it for hunting, fishing, and camping. When I use it for hunting I would literally toss all my gear into it (100 lbs of gear) and drag it though the woods. 4 years ago I bought a different boat for hunting and couple of years ago I bought an Old town Predator PDL for fishing so I felt that I didn't need my vapor anymore. So I sold it to my brother in law this pass summer so he could use it for fishing.

Man I totally agree with you! The vapor is underrated and can literally do anything. Bombproof for sure. It’s a great boat for starters and experienced folks too. Sounds like you’ve built up quite the quiver. Nice!!

Cheers chase! Yeah it was a huge bummer when the ascend handle broke. Now it’s kind of half screwed in so I’m just waiting for it to pop again lol. The old town by far has the best handle I’ve seen

Hey rick thanks for the kind words! The old town is a gem, and luckily it’s a readily available gem! I agree that the disadvantages do not outweigh the positives making this a good option. We certainly are getting close to 5k! Always fun to see growth. While I don’t necessarily have plans to do patreon, stay tuned for something exciting in the coming months. I’m working hard on something that will help support the channel but also add value to you all.

Got my vapor xt for 300 used. Same story. he used it one time on a 9 hour float. Didin't fish it or even hook up the anchor trolley. Love this boat.

Mr. Brown, congratulations on your marriage. If you look to up grade your boat, I highly recommend the Dagger Axis 10.5. I have one and I love it, plenty of storage, and I carves up flat water, and is a blast for light rapids. I’d love to know what your thoughts are on it.

Thank you Thomas! My buddy Chris has an axis 10.5 and he really enjoys it. He says it handles great in rapids and flatwater just like you mentioned. I’m thinking about going with a sit on top so that bilging is no longer an issue. Our rapids aren’t big enough to warrant a skirt, but too big to not get water in the boat haha

Hey! Thanks for the kind words. At 6’5” I would recommend a 12’ boat so that you can comfortably fit yourself plus gear. For day trips and depending on your weight, this 10’ could be a good grab and go option for day paddles. The bigger the kayak the more stability you’ll have which is good. I’m 6’2” for what it’s worth

Hi Gatewood and others that have responded here. Thanks so much for all the video info and responses! Super helpful. I live in Houston also, and after watching your videos, my wife, myself, and my 3 year old paddled the lower Guadalupe last weekend at ~65cfs from the First Crossing down to Cypress Bend park in a $300 inflatable Intex K2 Excursion Pro (bought it just days before the trip). Was a lot of fun. We did drag some due to the current low water levels though. Was really impressed with some of the rapids on this section. Can't wait to hit them during higher water levels! Anyway, I'm thinking a better kayak would be more fun. I believe a hard-shell kayak (or more expensive inflatable) would be more enjoyable to paddle due to the added rigidity and better tracking. The kayak did want to spin left and right often. Left the skeg off due to the shallow water. Do you have any advice on choosing between an inflatable or a hard shell, and some good example models? Price and transport are not an issue, just trying to decide which will be more fun. Some used examples on Facebook marketplace now are a Perception Pescador 13 tandem, Hobie Odyssey 14' Tandem, and a Native Stingray 13.5' Tandem. All 3 of these SOT have around ~500lb capacity and can be used solo or tandem. Looking for a tandem kayak that can fit my wife, myself, and my 3 year old (she usually sits in front with my wife). Want to balance skinny water clearance, fun in the class ~1-2 rapids, and some decent paddling efficiency in the slower sections between the rapids. Also want to be able to use the kayak solo or tandem. As a bonus, it could carry gear in solo setup. For now, assume the main use would be 2-6 mile day trips on the Guadalupe from First Crossing to the Cypress Bend Park (or something similar), with water flows between 100-200 cfs as I think this is more average? Would love higher flow, but still want something i can use at these lower water levels also. Thanks so much if you can share any advice as you have a ton of experience in this region! Also, if you're ever looking for more paddlers to go with, please consider us. (I'll look you up on Instagram.) Wife said she would even be open to some kayak camping! I have a Tacoma that could help with shuttling too.

Just got this off your review but was a lot more than $300, paid $500 for it at LL Bean, cheapest I could find it anywhere and was literally the last kayak they had left in store. Crazy how much they went up in price. Can't wait to take it out for some birding and fishing.

Man that was a good video. You always do a good one which makes your channel so great. I just love watching your videos Man. I am going to look into one of these vapors kayak. I am looking in to getting a sit inside kayak. It will be for backup. I like that they weigh not so heavy. I need a light kayak right now I have a shoulder injury and recovering from two broken feet. The sit inside kayak work great for me when I had the cast on both of my feet.( yes I did went kayaking with a cast on both of my feet) I will get me something. Keep up the good work man.

They all wanted to do this for me since I've been down with my injuries for a while. We made it work and it was a blast. I can't wait to do it again when I'm injured free.

I have not really. We don’t have many whitewater opportunities where I live. I’d just assume rent a whitewater boat whenever the opportunity presents itself

Just picked up one with the old style seat for free. Someone just trying to free up space. Can't wait to use it!

FYI....for another 100 bucks you can pick up a 12 foot Field& Stream (Eagle). Two pole holders, a sealed rear suitcase and bungees front and back. I got away from the 10 footers. The kayak can hold up to 500 pounds.Check it out at Dicks Sporting.

Thanks for the recommendation! My buddy actually has that exact same kayak. For certain reasons I prefer the vapor but your talon definitely loads gear better. If I step up to a 12’ boat I’m thinking it’ll be a sit on top

I have the exact Old Town Vapor 10 Angler!!! I was fortunate enough to get a very sweet deal from a fellow co-worker. I got mine for $50!!!! The only difference between mine and yours is my stern compartment has a hinged lid on it. This is my first kayak and I love it!!! Took it out on a lake a few weeks ago, sort of getting my sea legs. Never been kayaking before. Posted a video on my channel. Going to go again this Friday. I think mine was made in 2014 if I read the serial number correctly on the hull. Dang $50 is the best deal I've ever heard of for a Vapor!! The back hatch would certainly solve the bathtub issue back there. I wonder if one can be retrofitted? Mine is around a 2014 model as well and still going strong! We haven't been easy on it either.

@@GatewoodBrown I believe Old Town sales the hatch. I know they have instruction video here on KZread for putting it on. That is why I didn't know if it came pre-installed when he bought it new, or if he purchased it and installed it himself. I know it doesn't make that well waterproof, but at least you can store stuff in it and not worry about it falling out. Always loved old town had a heron 9xt that a tree fell on it also a otter 10 xt I recently sold now I just got a vapor 10 the new version has a drain plug on the front so alot less bailing of the water

I've had a Vapor 10 for about 5 years or more and ya the seat is THE reason I want to get another model. Good boat for shorter day trips but not so good for longer float/camps. I've put 2 seat cushions in it and it helps but still no back support higher than my kidneys.. : (

I’ve got a heritage osprey 12.9 sit on top that I love to pond hop and fish out of. Would that be too heavy/hard to maneuver for the water you’re on?! I’m a new subscriber and love the videos!

That’s a nice boat! 13’ is definitely pretty long for right maneuvering but hey, it’s more about the paddler than the boat. A little extra effort may be ok for a couple trips and then you’ll want to add another kayak to the quiver!

I have a trip 10 angler, same boat essentially, however mine has the rear hatch. It’s a great second boat for me. My main boat is a perception conduit 13’. Love them both.

That’s a good two boat setup for sure. The vapor is easy to toss in for a quick day paddle and the perception is more serious. I wish the regular vapor came with that hatch! It collects water so fast haha

You’d be fine for sure! Just have to focus on choosing your line and reading the river but I’d bet you’ll be good

In addition to the 12-14' tandem kayak search I discussed in my other comment, I am also looking for a good 2nd solo kayak. Main use for now would be 2-6 mile day trips on the Guadalupe between First Crossing and Cypress Bend Park (or similar) at 100-200cfs carrying minimal gear. Trying to decide between kayaks like the Aspire 105, Dagger Axis 10 or 12, Dagger Katana 10.5, and the Old Town Vapor 10... or maybe even a SOT? My goal is to find a good solo kayak for this section of the river? Open to other suggestions too. Wanting to balance skinny water clearance, fun handling in the ~class 1-3 rapids, and some paddling efficiency on the slow sections in between the rapids. If the Dagger Katana is one of your dream kayaks (mentioned in one of your comments here), then why did you sell it instead of the Old Town Vapor 10? Even if it was 9.7 instead of the desired 10.5, wouldn't it still have been more fun as a 2nd kayak focused more on handling? Was it too aggressive for the rivers in this region at average water levels? Did the 9.7 sit too low in the water causing dragging issues? Was it too slow to paddle on the flat sections? Or was it just too expensive of a 2nd kayak that wasn't getting used much (where the Old Town Vapor 10 is lot cheaper to keep as a 2nd or 3rd kayak.) It seems that your SOT Sportsman 120 is your main kayak. Is this primarily because you are often camping, carrying gear, and want to avoid bilging? Would you personally still choose the SOT Sportsman 120 over the Old Town Vapor 10, Dagger Katana, or Aspire 105 if you were only going for a short 2-4 mile day trip with no gear on the Guadalupe class 1-2 rapids near Gruene at 100-200cfs for example? I assume in this situation you would choose a ~10 ft sit-inside crossover kayak? However I am not sure as it seems you love your Sportsman 120! And thus, maybe the paddling enjoyment difference is not that much between a good 12' sot fishing kayak and a 10' sit-inside crossover for the rivers in our region? Thanks again so much for any help. Super helpful! Hoping to pull the trigger on a few kayaks and plan some more paddling trips soon!

For a solo kayak I like sit on tops 10’ to 12’ long. Old town and crescent are my favorites

I used a lifetime for 3 years hard core before I upgraded to a Vibe yellowfin. Had no issues with the tamarack for a starter kayak.

Hey man! I found your channel about a week ago and cannot get enough of your content. I love this stuff! I'm new to kayak camping and would really love to get into it and have got some buddies who want to get into it with me. What kayak would you recommend for kayak camping for beginners? I've been looking for a sit in with as good storage as I could get; something around $300-$400. I really like the ascend d10 sit in that I've been looking at recently. Any advice? My man thank you for the kind words! I enjoy hearing about people getting into the sport. I would say either the old town vapor 10 or the d10. Both are great options but I’ve never paddled the d10. For me, I’d go with the vapor since it has a bigger cockpit. But the d10 has that nice rear storage.

Yes! That’s the way I go about it too. I enjoy having people tag along and it’s easier when you can offer them a kayak. Plus what you could get for it on the used market is minimal so you’ll have more value long term by sharing it with people

Old town vapor 10 angler was my first kayak..still use it most. Also have a Jackson kilroy HD...its a hybrid sit in/sit on top...also great kayak..like sitting on your couch...very heavy, though..vapor 10 is the best 10' out there in my opinion...very stable in rough conditions, boat wakes...never get water inside...SEAT is the worst! I agree...currently looking to make it more comfortable...if u have any suggestions let me know

That vapor 10 is such a great boat, so versatile. A little tough to load gear and the seat is bad, but other than that it is a beast. The kilroy is definitely unique! I haven't spend much time looking but if they ever put a lawnchair style seat in there, it would be a winner

Whats your opinion on the larger sit on top kayaks? I have a 13" Vibe that I would love to take kayak camping, I live in San Antonio so a lot of the places you go are right down the road for me!

You like to do rivers class 2&3 maybe 4 Dagger Katana or Jackson KarmaTreverse both are 10' boats plenty of rocker slash boof but just over a $1000.00 you might be able to find a used one for about $750.00. the Vapor 10 small lakes ponds fishing kayak rod holders anchor system grate little multi-purpose boat.

We love running white water and the dagger katana 10.4 is on my list to acquire one day. I had the 9.7 but it just felt too small so I sold it. The vapor rocks for so many different purposes!

I have 2 vapors for my kids, they are great all around yaks. They prob performed better than my 12 foot WS Pungo on the Medina because the turns are so sharp. Zydeco Dagger, Perception Swifty and Otter are also great performers. All of these are under 50 lbs and can easily be thrown on your shoulder (as oppose to a site on top)

I bet your kids tear it up with the vapors! You’re right about their handling being pretty dang good. I haven’t tried those other boats but keeping the weight down is always handy for quick grab and go loading or portaging

If you ever get the chance, try out the trip, same yak with huge dry storage.

Yes the trip looks ideal with the hatch cover. That would save me a bunch of bilge time and weight!

Just bought a brand new one from a rich lady in Austin for $175 kayaked a bunch but I’ve kayak camped once, just for a lake with a lil island on it, I packed it to the brim with a chair, a tent, a fishing rod, a backpack and a duffel bag, boy was my kayak heavy but I made it work, really wanting to try it on sum faster rivers where are good places to try?

Been using my vapor for around 3+yrs and still happy. Only thing i dont like is the drain hole location. Even went as far as putting a battery in the rear compartment and made a homemade motor mount and put a trolling motor on.

Nice! I’m on 3 years with mine too. I agree, the drain hole makes no sense so I barely ever use it. I bet the vapor flies with a motor on it! It’s a fast boat to begin with

Who engineered that drain hole. I put another at the tip of the bow and it works great.

I just went to Old town`s web site. It had the boat listed @ 500.....with a note saying they no longer sell it. I have a 6 year old Heron 9xt which they also list @ 500 & once again it is no longer being sold.I love that boat & really wanted to replace it with a new one......I wore a hole in the back/bottom of mine........I use it quite often ...70+ times per year. all most always on lakes. I have been out more than a few times in storms with waves up & over a foot high & it rides like a champ.....best of paddling to you ...be safe out there....peace,pj

Yeah I’ve always found kayak prices to be highest on the manufacturer website. They do all of their selling through stores like academy and dicks. I still see them around! You must’ve put some good use on the old town to wear a hole through the bottom! They’re quite durable

@@GatewoodBrown I must confess that by the very way I launch the boat it makes for a lot of rubbing on the back end. I go out often here in cold weather in the northeast & want to get both in and out of the boat without getting my feet wet. This results in much drag at that one low spot on the back of the boat..... I repaired it with this stuff called JDWeld & so far it has held up. I also am launching backwards......Live & learn

I’m just now getting into Kayaking and I’m looking for a recreational, sit-in with a large cockpit so that my Aussie can join me for some trips. I’ve been eyeing the Wilderness Systems Pungo, old town Loon. I know those are pretty mainstream, so I’m surely open to any other suggestions. I’m in SATX, so I have some solid access to the hill country streams. Need to get one soon! I’ll probably get the Vapor for my daughter...

Vapor for your daughter is a great move. I’m going to recommend you go sit on top, and more specifically the crescent lite tackle because it has great room for your pup. Front and back. It has a low seating for good center of gravity and is honestly what I’m eyeing. Check them out online and at Austin canoe and kayak

It crushes for the price! Hard to beat it honestly. I’ve never been to that river but it sounds like a good time. I address the 12’ version in this review!

Another good video. You always seem to have the audio right. You complained about the airplane noise but the mic didn’t really pick it up. Other people try to talk while paddling and all you hear is the slap of the paddle. Maybe you have a special mic.

Thanks George! I wear a lavaliere mic and then sync up the audio during editing. It’s a pain but well worth it. For the trip videos I just use audio straight out of the camera. Maybe they’re using the wrong camera or have some wonky settings! But thanks my man!

Would love to see a review on the Ascend H10. I have a Vapor 10 and have been considering the H10 or H12.

That’s the next kayak I plan on reviewing! It’s been my main craft for the past year. For kayak camping it’s great. Gear storage is made easy with the canoe style open concept design. You will have to bilge a lot in turbulent waters but that’s all apart of it!

It’s a barge! But for what I use it for that’s fine by me. Long stretches of no current are miserable but we aim for rivers with lots of current so that’s only an issue sometimes. It’s very comfortable too

Never ran a Vapor, but I added 2 pungo105s and 3 Aspires to the fleet. Love the 10 footers for faster rivers, but I mainly paddle a Radar 135 for camping and class 2 stuff. Can I send u some rain down there? It's been flooded most of year up here.

pungo’s are better than vapors so I’d say you did well! My buddy has that aspire 105 and it’s a kayak I would seriously consider owning myself. Perception just makes a great kayak at an affordable price. I’ll take all the rain you can donate! We are getting skinny down here

@@GatewoodBrown go sit on top for your next rig. There really fun in wave trains and water like u paddle in. When I was down at the Buffalo last year the outfitters mainly rent sit on tops to avoid sinking them and losing inventory. Plus they are pack mules for camping. I sold 8 kayaks this spring to update the fleet in new colors, had no idea the trouble it was going to take to get boats from Wilderness Systems. I guess all the people who didn't have to work bought them.

I’m totally with you on that. SOT is definitely my future for the wave trains. Yep kayaks are flying off the shelves which is cool to see. You sir have a giant fleet of kayaks!

I've been paddling two VaporXT's hard for about ten years now. They are great boats, better than anything in the price range. When I bought them, they were $600 each! For $300 that's a steal. Pelicans stink big time compared to the Vapor, and Perceptions aren't as nice either. Don't track as straight and a lot easier to tip. Don't drag them on pavement or you'll end up with holes in the keel lol. Easy to patch though. I even found awesome skirts for them for class II water, and added a bungee rigging kit on the decks to hold drybags of camping gear in front and back. Time to paddle!

That is a great question! I plan on making a video about this eventually. But in the meantime, familiarize yourself with your states navigability laws that determine the extent of the riverbed. Camping in Texas is permitted within a navigable riverbed. My best advice is just to stick to islands. Can't go wrong with that.

Old Towns are solid. What do you think about ACK suddenly shutting down? Hint: It has to do with the war on oil. (oil makes plastic)

Old towns are great! ACK shut down because of poorly managed business practices. The industry was booming and they couldn’t cover their over leveraged position. Should work well for other kayak shops that are absorbing the customers.

@@GatewoodBrown a little bit of all of it. There's plenty of variety for water where I live in Georgia. Plus I have family who are into the sport (level 1 or 2 rapids for my brother in law in Tennessee and Ocean Kayaking for my sister down in the Gulf) so my particular need quite.... diverse.

@@GatewoodBrown I do have some experience with the Vapor 10, but it only amounts to about 6 hours and maybe half of that was with my 4 year old in the cockpit with me and I was extremely impressed at how well it handled. But I didn't get to do much else in it besides that.

Old Town uses polyethylene for their hulls. It’s stiff and tough as nails. A bit heavier than plastic, but it’ll last a lifetime. Excellent boats.

@@GatewoodBrown not sure but it has to be clear due to the bottom comp or like you stated above. the parks stock the lake and it has a sign that tells you what sizes you can keep .

$200 is an insanely good price for this boat. Unfortunately these never really go on sale in my area so I ended up paying more. Still worth it though.

Yeah they vary amongst regions but typically you can find deals at big stores

Any kayak without a bulkhead is only meant to be paddled within sight of the dock, hence the cheap seat.

Sorta! Bulkheads aren't always waterproof unless the access hatch is submersible (most aren't). Lots of people wear skirts to keep water out or have inflatable sacks at the bow or stern to make it truly buoyant. Also, sit on top kayaks don't have bulkheads and make for great offshore fishing vessels. Regardless, always smart to have a plan when going far from shore.

​@@GatewoodBrownagreed! Most adults are capable of planning ahead when choosing a kayak, but I can't help but feel that these types of boats are meant for the kids to play on around the dock. Looks like Old Town heard you and now offer the Vapour XT that include a bulkhead and better seating. Which the Vapour deserves. Going to steer the missus towards the 12XT( she wants a Loon 120), I'm set on the Crescent Venture. Love the sealed deck and manoeuvrability. I'd actually like the missus to have a Venture, but she likes her sit-ins. Thanks for your reviews, and for sharing your experiences.

If I were to buy a crescent that's the one I'd shoot for. I've moved on from the sit inside kayaks just because of the constant bilging haha

You really need to meet a skirt before you say bilging a 12 foot is the reason not to get a 12 footer.

I've used skirts on multiple occasions and ultimately, the SOT has been a gamechanger. Skirts are helpful in big water but with the amount of 'in and out' action required for our rivers, they're a pain to deal with.

I wore a life jacket the whole time! Also, in Texas your vessel under 16’ must be equipped with a life jacket but you don’t necessarily have to wear it. We make calculated decisions and while I always recommend wearing a life jacket, I let people make their own decisions within the confines of the law.
