    I should have mentioned that the Old Town Rudder Handle Stop is only for the Topwater/Sportsman 106/120 PDL. The adjustment tips will work on all of the Old Town models.

    At this point, Nick, Old Town needs to just pay you for helping maintain/tune their products in addition to providing aftermarket solutions 😅

    I just got a new Bigwater PDL and the rudder deploy lever wasn't working right to stow the rudder. This video showed me just what I needed to know, a very simple adjustment of the lines inside the center of the handle and is now working well. Old Town should make that information easier to find. That's one thing Hobie got good at, is making tutorial videos to illustrate different product usage and maintenance. Looks like your channel might be my best bet to get that sort of information for Old Town kayaks.

    Hi Nick I emailed you a few months ago re: new rudder installation (yours of course). I watched your installation video but your rudder deploy knob on that video was in diff. position than mine. I also unscrewed pulley mistakenly, I guess I missed that Instruction. So I reached out to you and olde towne for detailed instructions on putting that pulley back in 🤯,and you both came thru! ty quite a fete. Anyway this video I could have used then lol Everything you mentioned re: cord tension etc I had to kind of fiddle with and figure out, also the deployment and holding steering at same time. I also replaced paracord and also lost the cord in tubing 😮😅My point .....this here video Is really very informative because these adjustments can be quite frustrating. I finally got it right and Rudder responds beautifully to waves,current etc. Thanks again! Debra

    Thanks for this.... This has always annoyed me and seems like an easy fix. I'll have to grab one... As always, great innovation and work you put into these kayaks...its appreciated. Man, I wish someone would come up with a fix for the tackle box slot in/under the seat. Every time i upend my kayak to put it in the truck, or if I lift up on the seat, all my crap comes spilling out all over the place. Shame on old town for designing it like that without a front flap to keep your gear stowed.

    Ill have to do this when i put on my metal rudder. My rudder lever doesnt point the right way, and to put it up it actually points inward far enough to tap the hull. When down it points out.

    I haven't done it yet. It came like that from old town. It doesnt point out all the way, but its never parallel with the rest of the hull. Pretty sure I can fix it now, when I get around to swapping out the rudder.

    Hey Nick, great video and great product. I have a sportsman 120, and the black line you are referencing in the video just snapped on mine. Only if I had this product a few weeks ago haha. Anyways, do you have any insight on how to run a new line and loop through the rudder deployment assembly within the hull and through the rudder? Thanks in advance.

    Ok makes sense. But what about a old town predator xl. When I go to flip the rudder down it doesn’t move I have to do manually by hand. And bringing it up basically the same thing. It turns back and forth. But I need help on the releasing and disengagement. It’s my first kayak. I’m not familiar with the rudder going up and down. When I go to release it down. The rope feels like it’s in a bind and doesn’t come down. The paracord seems loose when I do it. Like it takes a lot to pull it down then the cord is loose but doesn’t deploy. I would greatly appreciate anyone telling me how or what I have to do. Thank you! Ps. Mine doesn’t work no where good as this one.

    This is great. But is there a fix for this on the Bigwater? Obviously a different rudder/handle deployment but wondering if there’s a solution for it

  • @NavarreKayakFishing

    @NavarreKayakFishing

    Жыл бұрын

    Gravity helps a bit on the Bigwater since the handle is on the side of the kayak. If you adjust the black ropes properly is should reduce the issue drastically but I can look into a better option.

  • @NavarreKayakFishing

    It does but I didn’t want to turn the instructional video into an advertisement. The metal rudder cuts through the water a bit better and stays deployed.

    Lift the seat and stick your hand in the hatch. You’ll be able to tell if the line came off. More often then not you can just slide the line back on the pulley.

    @@NavarreKayakFishing I just did that and yes one of the lines is off the pulley…I just can’t seem to get it back around the pulley…should I loosen the cable a bit? Or should I be able to just wrap it back around without doing that..doesn’t seem to have enough slack to just go back over…

    Try lifting the rudder and putting it in the middle like it’s half way deployed. It should give you a little wiggle room.
