This wonderful canoe hybrid includes both canoe and kayak characteristics which provide a fun and natural paddling experience. This fishing hybrid canoe will work with both double-bladed and single-bladed paddles. The Old Town's NEXT hybrid kayak has many advantages compared to ordinary kayaks and fishing canoes because it is lightweight, has an open cockpit, and it is narrow enough so that it can be easily controlled by a single operator with a double-blade paddle. It is stable and sturdy so you can fish standing up and the removable seating system allows you to improve your comfort and get more storage space.
Like a regular kayak, the Old Town’s NEXT is narrow and low which makes it practical and handy to operate. And with amazing 450-pound capacity, the Old Town’s NEXT is ensuring that you have enough space for everything that you decide to take with you for a day on the water. The open hull provides enough space for camping gear or fishing gear alike.
So, if you are looking to buy a fishing boat that is easy to operate but has a great storage capacity, and you were struggling to decide between a fishing kayak or a canoe, then this Old Town hybrid canoe might just be a perfect choice for you.

I bet old town sells a ton of those. Never tried one yet but I currently paddle a wenonah vagabond. Had several transitional kayaks, but have always favored a well balanced canoe with shallow arch hull. vagabond weighs 42lbs.

just got one an use it in the open ocean and rivers or tautog, stripers and fluke. works great with winds, but keep in mind if our drift fishing this 13 footer catches wind and waves a lot easier. tons of room and theres a bag on the back of the seat. i switch out the forward wood beam for a 2x4 so i could mount my fish finder and rod supports. i wish that they had addded a pulley system for an anchor, but i can add though. I noticed that the hull under the center of the seat seams a little weak and dents/warps when on on my trailer for only an hour... not sure whats up with that (wouldnt mind the extra weight for strength..) at a $1000 its a great canoe and its comfortable. I travel two miles + every outing and no gripes except for that weak section of hull under the seat.

I'm in the market to buy a new kayak or canoe. I want to use it for fishing bays, marshes, and 1-2 miles off the beach. I saw one on Craigslist for $700 so should pull the trigger, or just get a kayak that can do it all? My only concern is being able to self rescue if I turtle.

I have a Pungo 140, do you see much difference between the two? My main concern is access being a senior and having all the aches and pains that comes with aging. My other concern is buoyancy as the Pungo has two water tight compartments.

The Mad River Serenade has the unique shallow V. The V is the genius of the Vikings. It's unrivaled seaworthiness. The Mad River Serenade also has the lighterweight, cost affordable, fiberglass construction. The Serenade also has a unique tumble home that allows spray rigging. You can take your seat out of the Serenade to your campsite and sit down and watch your firends fight over who gets to sit on the wet log. What I really like about the Serenade is the lines; that is, it is strikingly canoe. You know it's a canoe when you look at it. I paddled one and the combination of glide, tracking and turning was beyond my expectations. (I've had 45 years of canoe experience, having grown up on The FInger Lakes of upstate, NY. My front yard, literally, was Keuka Lake.) I've never seen a more superb boat than the Mad River Serenade. Oh, what I also like about the Serenade, .....you won't have to see a chiropractor after you lift it, like you will with the Old Town.

The Serenade is a lot more expensive (almost double the price with the wood option). It looks like max weight capacity is only 300 lbs. which is a lot less than the Next. I don't have experience with either boat, I'm just comparing stats and trying to educate myself.

Good video. I wish you guys would compare similar boats to one another. How does this compare to the Native Ultimate 12? This would be a better service to your viewers but maybe its putting at risk your add dollars. If you are not willing to do that, how about doing a pros and cons for each boat? I this boat preform well in on a windy day in a large lake with white caps? Thanks

53 lbs is the problem. My 14ft Hornbeck's empty weight is about 27 lbs so it almost puts itself on the car.

When compared to dedicated fishing kayaks, 53 lbs is very light. My 12ft Jackson Cuda is 75 lbs empty. Kevlar is nice, but probably cost prohibitive for most anglers just looking to get away from shore.

Much easier to get out of, you can move around, sit, kneel, access your gear..... you can haul gear, a cooler, tent, duffel, gun, fishing gear, stretch, recline....... in a kayak your stuck in one position all day.

Are they marketing this as a new idea? Pack boats have been around for decades and are less than half this weight.

"Decades" is an understatement. Pack canoes have been around for over 100 years, and even the wooden ones of 100 years ago weighed one-third as much as this pig.

What Old Town really needs to do with this thing is enclose ,hatch and then add bulkheads to the fore and aft storage areas which would result in it having 100 lbs more cargo capacity than my Pungo 14 which in turn would make it the perfect boat for doing long treks like the Wilderness Waterway in Everglades NP

Just install a wingman outfitter system on it. Plenty more storage space, more stability, and it's portable. Look it up on KZread.

You need a slave to own that stinking heavy thing: only problem is A) slavery is wrong. B) slavery is illegal these days- (thanks to majority of Americans voting for Lincoln.). Too heavy!.... way way way too heavy!.... would NEVER USE IT!
