    I own this boat. It is indeed the most versatile boat I've ever owned. I'm thinking of selling my fishing kayak and buying a second one. Its at home on open lakes and small creeks. I watched a team paddle the entire Mississippi River in these. They are solid.

    Seriously thinking about the Next for my loon photography work (fished for LM Bass for years... now only photograph nature). Would like to adapt my Norwegian F Cat to go out with me (in the front). I think he will adapt to it. I can tell the children like you (the child running across the lawn and the black fingernails LOL). You need to be careful with Hope in the Sun. I have lots of treatable skin carcinomas from years in an airboat on the Everglades. Hope is as light as my daughter Carie and early in her life I told her to not even try to tan. I just upgraded my subscription to the top Bell. Look forward to more of your videos. ✌

    I have a NEXT, and it has a serious flaw. Despite the strap that is supposed to limit the spread of the seat channels, if the canoe flexes enough, the u-channels which hold the seat tubes will go sideways enough to let the tubes slip out.

    Jim Bendtsen - is yours a brand new model also? I have heard seat rumors about this model. Could it handle class two rapids, or is the seat going to pop out while I’m in a rapid?

    @@thatdude4000 I have tested a couple different ways to guarantee the seat won't flex out. They take some work, but work fine. Mine was not brand new. I bought it a couple summers ago, and it was 2-3 years old, so maybe a 2015 model. It had a nylon strap under the seat with a snap buckle which was not sufficient. I'm 6'1" and approx. 235lbs, so a little bigger than the average person who would use this canoe.

    Nice video and boat description. I’ve owned a Next for almost 4 years now. I like your outfitting mods, too, and have a couple of questions about them. Did you rivet the deck rigging eyes? I assume so since it seems pretty impossible to put nuts and lock washers inside that box gunwale. Also, did the provided ss screws for the rail mounts work without going all the way through the thwarts and creating a cutting hazard or did you have to get some the right length? Thanks a bunch.

  • @BillsCatch22

    @BillsCatch22

    I used the self-tapping screws provided with the products. They worked well. I don't know exactly what the length was, but were shorter that the thwarts were wide.

    The seat in this boat is exceptional. My suggestion would be to test one out. But if you buy it and then discover that your back disagrees with it, the boat holds its value quite well. You can sell it for 80% the original cost even after a couple years.

  • @MTp8ntballer

    @MTp8ntballer

    I own a sportsman 119 and it is a great boat but it has a lower capacity than this boat usable weight. On the 119 is 298lbs had a paddler that was 330 paddle the boat and it floated but i don't know how much i would be willing to chance. The next has a use able weight of 391 lbs and is 13 feet long vs the 119 length of 11'9 the 119 is much wider at 32.5 where as the next is 29 in wide. the sides are cut lower than the ones on the next or even the regular 119 giving it a lower capacity in the 119 have about a hands width between the gunnel and the water. But having said that i weigh about 275 and the solo does it for me tackle box and a few rods. It is a fair weather boat if it gets choppy you need to get off the water but it is fast and responsive and i will probably have it for the rest of my life or until i run the bottom off of it. Still have a fishing kayak for bigger bodies of water or dicier days but the ease of use and its performance on the water makes it a good boat to fish on a good day or just a good boat to unplug for a while in. love the little boat and it is much easier to handle in and out of the water compared to my big yak.

    There’s a rig you can get that hooks into your trailer hitch. It’s just a piece of steel tubing that extends straight back a few feet before angling upward. The top has a horizontal beam the rest your kayak on. Search “hitch extension for kayak” and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

    Old Town, I love ya...14 years with my Pack so far ..but what the heck did you do, quit in covid? I have placed 2 orders for new boats...6 months and 11 months to get a canoe is stupid. Y'all should have been making them around the clock in 3 shifts like some of the kayak businesses. Kayaks are piled up in stores...canoes are nowhere. Even the biggest dealers nationwide tell the same story "sorry, Old Town hasn't been able to get us any boats forever" . The largest dealer is my state said he is expecting an order in a few months of 4 boats...all gone. It's now April...he told me November when I placed an order... but he could get me any of hundreds of kayaks he had laying around. Fear mongering is over y'all, time to admit the shutdown mistakes and push production thru the roof while you still have pent up demand. We who love the canoe are losing ground every day to the yakers. (I have owned every type of kayak for rec or fishing...about a dozen and paddled more...but I'm a canoeist. )
