Old Stool Restoration
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Old Wooden Stool Restoration. I decided to restore my wooden stool, which I have been using in my workshop for a long time and which I did not treat very well. I even welded on it. That's why the burns you see occurred. I tried to preserve its old look and character. And of course I used clamps when gluing it.
Uzun zamandır atölyemde kullandığım ve pek iyi davranmadığım ahşap taburemi restore etmeye karar verdim. Üzerinde kaynak bile yapmıştım. Gördüğünüz yanıklar da bu yüzden oluştu. Eski görünümünü ve karakterini korumaya çalıştım. Ve elbette onu yapıştırırken clamps kullandım.

While editing my restoration videos, I remove the scenes that I think are unnecessary or long. Of course, I used clamps in the restoration of this stool.

Why the metal bar on the seat? It added no strength. The line from the break was minimal compared to all the other splits in the seat. MY OPINION. Maybe there is a higher selling value with "different." I am just a plain-Jane kine of girl.

Absolutely stunning restoration mate. I thought you were going to fix the seat or restore it assembled. In hindsight, you were right on track and produced a stunning piece. I especially liked the burn marks left on the seat. I recently did the same with my father’s shaving box he made during WW2. He forever left burning cigarettes on things and burnt them. The restored piece is now a testament to him.

Hi, nice work but I’m curious as to why the metal bar was attached that way? If the purpose was to reinforce to avoid splitting again, wouldn’t driving screws into the gap be counter productive? Then again maybe it’s just decorative?

My thoughts; the metal bar or bracing at the top is unnecessary; one, it added extra weight to the upper part of the stool, which could affect the four legs. Secondly, it would have been ideal if the brace was just an ordinary strong wood and underneath instead of the top of the stool. But above all, he did an excellent restoration on the nearly collapsed stool, and his skills are credible. I just came across his channel, and I have subscribed immediately. Excellent job, and many thanks for bringing it back to life.

That piece of metal is actually pretty darn cool
First, great job. However some constructive criticism. When gluing the two halves together, it is actually better not to sand the mating surfaces, just ensure they are clean. This allows for a completely uniform joint to occur. Regarding the metal bar, it is a nice touch, but I would recommend using inletting black next time you do something similar. Gouge out the rough area, like you did, then apply the inletting black to the bottom side of the metal and place it in the groove. The inletting black will transfer to the wood and show exactly where you need to remove material, creating a perfect glove like fit (this is something I do often in custom stockmaking). Last, finish the wood prior to assembly. In this case, the wood was cracked and had tons of open pores. A perfect candidate for either shelf bought sealer or a sanded oil finish, where you essentially wet sand the finish into the wood which utilizes the saw dust created by sanding to create a perfect filler. These methods are much more tedious, but result in a restoration that retains the age of the wood, but properly finishes and protects it for years to come.

Admire the detailed work requiring lots of patience & skill. Howere; I didn't like the M.S. bar as decorative element on which you put lots of work but yes isn't upto the mark. You might have used a brass/SS strip of appropriate thickness instead, with zigzag screwing to keep the two halves of the top together rather than the screws falling on the joint that you have done resulting in a separating effect. Alternatively, you might have sandwiched a brass/ss/copper strip of 1.5 mm thick or so, between two halves of the top and finished the entire top surface including the radiused edge for the total thickness of the top. This would have enhanced the beauty eleminating the fixing screws...😍
@maheshbdalwadi924

I would suggest to put nylon buffers to compensate for the reduced height due to slashing off the damaged leg ends.
Nice work..👌👍The seat could have been stained a bit to camouflage lots of marks and the steel insert could have been inlaid from all four sides meaning leave half an inch wood on two ends and not let steel be seen from the two ends..
