Old School Comic Inking - Alan Davis Pencil Art

This time, I'm inking Alan Davis' pencil art of Galactus vs Phoenix. It's hard to believe his art would be considered "old school comic," but maybe. 😄 During the comic inking process, my stylus nib goes bad, and I make a huge and silly mistake. But thanks to saving (but not often enough), it saves the day... sort of.
Thanks for checking out my inking video and I hope you enjoy it!

05:42 This is really insightful in the differences between traditional and digital. Sometimes I hesitate to use rulers and "vectors", even though I love vectors, it's what got me into art actually. But it can feel somewhat fake to mix pencil drawing with vectors and that's just stupid! We have to use our tools, as you showed you had to use ruler templates. One question I have is how do you decide brush size? And when do you change it? Is there a fixe point you use for crosshatches and one for main lines?

Hey! Thanks for the question. First, yes! Use the tools available to you! For me, like I said in the video, I would have used templates and french curves on the exact same areas while inking traditionally so there's no difference for me. As for the brush size that depends on the couple things. My pages are all set to 11x17 inches 600 DPI. I do most of my inking with a brush size of 12-17, depending on the scene. If you look you'll see my brush is at 30 a couple times while inking Galactus (Because he's huge and he fills most of the page). For crosshatching I go with the same 12-17 size. Now, if you ink on a 300 DPI canvas, the sizes may have to change. At least that's what I noticed for myself. I really hope this helps!

Thanks for the comment! That brush is actually a default brush I duplicated, renamed and made some of my own setting adjustments. I posted some setting screenshots on the "community" tab about two months if you want to check them out.

This is not inking. This is digital illustration.
