imo Kaorin is good being secondary character

I'm glad that as a young person I found this anime and I read the manga because it's a real gem and it's a shame that most people my age will never see it since it has kind of been forgotten. Though I do feel like it's making a sort of comeback in popularity.

My Mom is from West Virginia and used to tell me stories about how awkward it was when she transferred to Wisconsin as a kid. So the Osaka=Southerner tradition has me thinking of my Mom as one of Anime's biggest Memes. Have you seen Kashimashi Girl Meets Girl? That would be good to do for Pride Month, it's on Retro Crush currently both Dubbed and Subbed.

I remember when I first discovered this show. It was the early 2000s, and I found a copy of the first volume at my local EB Games. I noticed that the rating for that volume was an "MA" (Equivalent to a US "R" rating). And I thought, it may be a bit controversial for my tastes, despite the cute aesthetic. I then saw the first episode on an Anime Sampler DVD, and when I saw it, I thought, "It's rated MA, why?" I mean, this was the most innocent and safe show you could possibly imagine. None of the content qualifies for an MA. I later discovered that the MA was due to the "Pool, Pool, Pool!" episode, but even that episode does not seem to be as controversial as it seems. It's rather tame in the whole scheme of things. So if you live in Australia, and want to watch Azumanga Daioh, completely ignore the MA rating. The series is about as harmless as the Simpsons, and probably qualifies for a PG nowadays, or at least a light "M". And it wasn't just Azumanga Daioh that fell victim to the Australian Censors. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya was given an MA when it mainly qualified for a PG or an M.

Pretty good review of one of the best, most satisfying animes ever made! The clean, original humor, memorable characters brimming with personality, amazing dubbing from both the Japanese and the US, fantastic rewatch value and a great overall enjoyment factor that leaves you satisfied throughout the series. Few exceptions aside, this is THE anime that placed the slice-of-life genre on the map. Also, one of the best translation from the manga to the anime, even being better than the manga itself with some smooth transitions. :)

Oh...Sakaki still has my heart! ❤ I hope she will oneday pet the 😺 without getting bitten or not have to awkwardly talk to Chio-sans father!

I already watched all the episode 3 times and I still love it

I watched this anime at school in the Anime Club back in the early 00s, truly one of the most iconic series ever.

I got into this show because I've been seeing memes of this show day in day out for the past 2 years on ifunny from my subs, I hated it, then I watched it, then I hated that I loved it

Yay! It's ready!

I reccomend Magical girl Lyrical Nanoha in the next old retrospective video and also Merry chrismas Jisu.

I rewatched this recently and some episodes had a mix of joke that landed and others thst didnt. Like the 3 knuckleheads episode who i feel can be skipped. I feel kaorin is probably the worst in she has 2 jokes. Im glad your videos also brings that to attention

Maybe one of the things that made Azumanga Daioh ages so well is that is a good example of passing the Bechdel Test. Strangely enough, there aren't too much anime series that passes the test, before or since.
