oh it's the same led. Thanks for this info. pretty nice for checking the light without having to tilt the controller. Still a controller is just a controller. I just got my ps4 with the 'old' controller. not gonna change any soon. Thanks for the info though.

Aside from aesthetics, the difference the new controller are the thumsticks that have much tighter action and dont loosen up as much over time as the older model. Ive spoke to game store associates aswell and they say the same and that people have returned them because they felt it was to tight for them. I prefer the tighter thumbsticks.

The new PS4 controller went retro with the old school style buttons matching that of of the PSX, or PSone. Firm, less shiny due to the matte black finish which is to eliminate the sticky or dirty hands issue, all while in a more rigid build of the PS4 controller. Shoulder buttons don't have that huge spring that required you to pull down on the shoulder buttons harder.

Honestly, Jet Black is my favorite color for the ps4 controller.

i had the original ps4 controller and it broke and i got a new one and i was telling everybody they are different but nobody believed me

@@SonyPlaystationJapan - Beacuse a lot of us were still using v1 controllers and have recently stumbled upon these vids. That's mainly because the trigger buttons on the v1 are starting to crap out on people and they're looking to go v2 since that's all that's really in "new" condition from Sony.

Thank you, was looking for a comparison and found this video. My old controller which I got with a new PS4 around 1 1/2 years ago's battery died. I tried to switch it to USB but found that the new controller does this. So now I know how it looks, mainly the gray buttons so that neither I nor the cashier makes a mistake. I'm switching my controller to full USB from now on.

Insane, I have the new PS4 controller and I have the old controller and I didn't notice the difference in color of the thumbstick, d-pad and option/share buttons! I really like the additional light bar in the touch pad

What kind of things can you do when the controller is running through USB? (other than playing, obviously) What other things can you hook up through USB?

Can anyone confirm if the new style grey buttons and sticks fit in the old style controllers? I think the grey buttons would look great in the 20th anniversary controller.

I have both. The main improvement for me is the material of the analogue sticks.

Kinda preffer the one that has the sticks that won't break, you can keep your black buttons, also the gold one looks sooooo gorgeous, gotta get that one soon.

Apparently internally there are differences between the face and back plates. I was looking at custom faceplates for my controller cuz its getting a bit warn. and they clearly state on some that if you have a ps4 pro or slim model controller it will work or some will say the opposite that it only works with the older gen ps4 controllers. Food for thought.

How much longer is the battery? And thank God they finally changed the thumbstick grips. I remember how fast the old ones wore off.

Can you try the wired mode (plus enable it in controller option) and see if you can feel a bit of difference input lag wise?

The most annoying thing with these both controllers: you cannot turn off completely the brightness bar, which you don't watch it all the time anyway.

I think it's firmware related, meaning Sony could easily patch the PS4 to make this possible, but they refused.

when I got my new ps4 a couple of months ago it came with the new dualshock4 and I don't know if anyone else has this issue but the new dualshock4 had a glitch with the left trigger , when pressed in would also act as if the left stick was press forward, making it impossible to zoom in an fps. this all happened within 3 weeks of getting the new ps4

Is the analog stick rubber more durable compared to the original controllers which would tear overtime? Thanks.

Are they internally the same? I mean, I broke mine shell (NEW GEN) and I found an OLD GEN used that I want to replace the shell with.

I like the new one and only because it has new rubber compound on the analog stick. In the old controller the grip of analog stick vanished like after 1 year and it felt completely soft after that, but in this new controller which i had for 2 years now since it came and it still has decent amount of grip in the sticks. Also yes the keypads feel more smoother too but that grip on stick was the key for me.

I bought a headset but I have a old controler is that why my headset doesn't work because it's not compatibility?

Now that you have some time to use the new controller. Have they beefed up the thumb sticks at all? I'm on my third one, technically second since I was pissed off to do a buy switch return on the 2nd and 3rd ones. I kept running into the same issue. On games like CoD, Destiny, BF where you use the L3 a lot to run. It would stick and prevent running. You or at least I could put the L3 back up and feel it sort of pop up. But soon after 2-3 clicks you would feel it sink into the stuck position again. I fixed the 3rd controller by opening it up and finding a tiny tiny piece of plastic to stick in the hole preventing the push rod inside from travelling to much. But to be honest sick of opening controllers 4 months after buying them to do this fix. But I ask because I have a brand new controller that is the remodelled version still in the plastic that came with the ps4 pro. And want to know if I will run into the same issue once I decide to use it.

Lol I just googled it and the USB mode adds 8 milliseconds of latency 😂

I'm reading some of these comments to see if anyone mentions ANY performance differences but there don't seem to be any so it makes no difference to me; all I care about is price so if the 'old one' is cheaper, THAT'S the one I'm getting. On a side note a LOT of you guys have WAY too much hostility, lol!

th old one seems to have better connection to the ps4..i have an old one and 2 new ones..the new ones have a problem with the sensor to the console..the old one is still going strong..had it for atleast 2 years now

Question: I got a brand new ps4 (star wars Battlefront 2) CUH-211B model #. Should the model # of the ps4 and controller be the same when included in same package? Ex1: CUH-2115B model label # is on both system and controller? Ex2: CUH-ZCT2U model label # is on both system and controller?

I have 2 different controls CUH-ZCT2U and CUH-ZCT1U I want to buy shells for them but I don't know if it'll fit do you have any idea if it'll fit?

Ummmm I actually like the appearance / look of the old controller better than the new one. I like the black buttons rather than the gray buttons. But on the other hand I do like the light bar across the touch pad on the front of the controller.

I have a first gen PS4 controller that came with my first gen PS4 and it's still going strong. It was my only controller for more than 4 years so it has thousands of hours of gameplay on it. The battery dies in just a few hours but other than that, it works great, no drift whatshoever. On the other hand my second more modern controller i bought started acting up on me after one year, not only the analogs started to drift, but the movement started to be inconsistent. I tried to fix it but it got even worst so it ended up on the trash can. The only downsides about the old controller were the smaller battery and the fact that it doesn't work on PC for some reason, at least mine doesn't, the modern ones do. Other than that i like the old ones better.

Ommggg I googled “why is this PS4 controller bigger than the other one” to get here, and I was wondering because I bought one of those light blue/ugly maroon colored ones? Ahahah and I seriously thought it was like a ripoff or something because compared to the rose gold/pink one I’ve had for literally since that color came out years, lol, it’s much bigger, and just feels like an old PS3/PS2 sorta vibe to it. 😅 Lmao but yeah, only problem I have with the pink one is like yours, it’ll last maybe a few to five hours.

My old model controller is still working like it’s brand new after 6 years. I probobly dropped it at least 1000 times on my tile floor and it still has 0 issues. Yet I went through 4 of the newer model PS4 controllers controllers in the span of 2 years. They had headphone jack issues, stick drift issues, broken triggers and buttons. (I don’t smash my controllers btw) But I think Sony made the newer PS4 controllers less durable on purpose to bring in more money.

The easiest way to identify between these is to look for the headphone jack text and the other port beside it the one that says "EXT"

I already had the new controller before watching this

Its cheaper made and 2nd gen controller stay having drift issue after 2 or 3 weeks of use that why I got scuff ps4 controller and love it

Longer battery life YES. turn the light bar to Dim, increases battery life by far. New one also has faster response and less lag due to a new version of Bluetooth making using the USB Cable for "Less input lag" Useless because its a NEW version of Bluetooth which has low input lag to begin with. Stupid.. Reading the info on the PS4's new controller wouldn't kill you if your doing a comparison. Launch PS4 use the old version. Slim/PS4 PRO use the latest bluetooth as do the new controllers.

The USB connectivity setting that you did only communicates like that when it's connected physically by a cable, otherwise it's still bluetooth.

I heard that the Grayish controllers are fake , Is that correct ? I am buying a gray one but my friend warned me not to do that because it might be fake

Could you tell me why you would rather use netflix on your ps4 compared to your tv? does your pc not support it, or does netflix look better when streamed from the ps4? (genuine question, i have a smart 4k tv and a ps4 pro, dont know if i should be using netflix from the tv or the ps4)

The controllers headphone jack is incredibly over-rated for the flat stereoscopic sound it gives. My gaming headset has seperate mic and audio jacks that plug into it's USB adapter. I plug the audio jack into a music industry-standard amplifier which plugs into the T.V, mic into the adaptor, and use a USB extension lead from the adaptor to the PS4. If you skip the amplifier and plug your audio jack directly into the TV you can bypass the fact that Sony don't support a large amount of headphones, which means they give you generic quality stereo output at about 1/4 of the volume you'd expect, and chances are that your TV would happily blow the speakers molesting your ears with sheer volume.

I don't get how people go through them either. No offence intended but i have my original controller that i got with my ps4 in 2014. It's as good as new and i game for long periods and pretty regularly. Maybe some people throw their controllers against walls or something in frustration. That seems to me to be the only way you can break them.

Brian Gil I'm not sure if that was a typo but if you mean you CAN'T sprint for longer than 2 seconds, it sounds weird but put your mouth over your thumb sticks and blow , idk why but it works. I had the same problem and couldn't play cod for months.

1 major difference is also when u plug it into a PC via USB cable u the New PS4 controller gives u option to use the PS4 controller Headset jack for ur PC. The old one doesn't give that option and that can abit annoying for those who remote play.

@tBoocup That's complete garbage. I own the new style of controller and it feels cheaper compared to the old one. The new controller doesn't have the same luxurious joysticks that the old one does. The colors of the new triggers are ugly compared to the old style. And the new controller doesn't even work on android, the old one did. Nothing but downsides, Not one up side.

When I got a PS4 slim for Christmas,I got the controller that came with the Console and my little brother got the old Ps4 controller from a sold separately packaging and it took me 9 days after christmas for me to notice that I had the new dualshock controller and to notice that the PS4 we have is the PS4 slim because news flash! it doesn't tell you on the box and wow Sony I can really notice the difference between the new dualshock controller and old one,(being sarcastic).
