Definitely! It really gives these LED panels a good second life cause I always hated setting up another C-stand to diffuse an LED panel at the right angle. So much space gets taken up. These are definitely quick and dirty. Now we just need Neewer to make a larger 36" circular one and make a powerful 100-150W flood beam LED to go with it. If priced right, it would go right up against the 120d with a bowens softbox but at a much cheaper price point

The circular being a 21" softbox isn't bad at all. I hope neewer makes a 32" version or something, that would be wicked if it works. You're most welcome! Yup all you really gotta do is just get the softbox as close to you as possible while its still outta frame, adjust the light output as needed for your exposure. And all will be good with shadows and softness of light. Of course depending on your needs you can play around with the light placement and camera placement and experiment to see what will work best for you in your space. But the lightning principle for softlight is still the same, "larger illuminated surface area placed up close, out of frame, to the talent or object." Have fun!

Wow! What a great video. I prefer the look of the circular soft box when you did the test with you in front of the camera. It's also nice that you can leave the barn doors on with that version. With so many other videos I've watched, they said you have to take barn doors off to be able to use the square soft boxes that Neewer now sells with the 660 led panel. I don't want to unscrew barn doors because it defeats the purpose of me buying lights with barn doors. Anyway GREAT video! Thank you for this.

Great video! Another reason I would want a circular softbox is that I'm a big proponent of having an eye catchlight reflection that mimics the roundness of the sun.

I can't believe how much your video is a perfect introduction to my very recent need (one week ago!) to learn as much as I can about LED panels and methods to diffuse the light. I have been asked to set up lights to record a single speaker. I was directed to the Neewer 660's by a friend. Your recommendation for a large circular softbox (I'm going with the Kamerar because the Neewer is unavailable) could not have come at a better time for me. In the video and in a comment below you mention that the 660's still produce a slight hot spot even with the softbox. Can you expand further on the idea of using a "concave" gel under the softbox? Any other ideas to get a more diffuse key light and reduce the shadows? I'm also considering the 660 SMD, by the way. Thanks again for a very informative and easy to follow video!

Hey hey John! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! So glad to hear this video was helpful! The "concave" diffusion paper or just plain wax paper, you essentially will use some spring paper clips (The black one with two silver pinch handles) and try to find a way to clip that onto the light so that the wax paper bows out and away from the LED like the letter "U". Not too much as you will then need to make sure it doesn't rest up against the softbox inside. I would say a 4-6 inch bow should be sufficient. In terms of lighting up the speaker and trying to eliminate shadows, you will most likely want to have a second light for your "fill light". This one isn't turn up as bright so that it helps "fill" in the shadows on the persons face. Lastly to try and get the most soft looking light on a persons face as possible, you want to move that light as close to them as possible without it entering your cameras frame. It may not seem like its suppose to work that way, but it does. The closer you move it to the subject, the "larger" it is relative to his distance away from it. Think of it this way, remember as a kid you pretended to pinch someones head that was standing much further away, but you wouldn't be able to do it if they stood right in front of you? Same concept. Lastly I'm not sure what filming situation you are in, but you plan to use 660's that are diffused, I would suggest staging the speaker recording in a pretty dark room. If you are in a bright corner office, these lights probably won't do much if its combating sun light. LED Panels of this range (30ish watts) will be most useful when you are starting in a nearly dark room. I would youtube up "basic 3 point lighting" to get an idea of how you are going to setup your 660s. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Great video! This helped me choose for my KZread setup. I've spent days trying to figure out lighting and softboxes. I was going to go with a Godox SL60W but size is a big factor. Since I live in Japan and don't have the space for an 80-120cm softbox, this information was really helpful for a compact softbox. I want to have a more cinematic look to my lighting in my talking head videos and this looks like the best compact option. The tip about getting the RGB version of the 660 to fill the circular softbox evenly is gold. I know that having a spot beam in the middle of the circular softbox with the normal 660 would bug the hell out of me. Thanks so much!

Is that right ? I felt the lighting could have been stronger, and then it would produce a clearer image ? Or was it just KZread compression ? The Kamerar brand is essentially the same thing with the only difference that I can tell is that the Kamerar comes with a little plastic slide clip on the magnetic rods to ensure the magnets always start ridged once you set it up. But other than that they are more or less the same product just different branding. It seemed in the past since this review that the Neewer circular one was constantly out of stock and only replenished rarely, if you need one right away, probably easier to just get the Kamerar version. Hi there, love your videos btw. Also love the fact that you are almost responding to everyone's comments. That's crazy considering how many comments you must get! I'm trying to film myself speaking but with a wider angled shot of my room. I'm not sure if I should get one Neewer 660 LED with softbox, or two Yongnuo 300 Air's (hence have 2 lighting points). Which would light up my room and face better?

Hey hey Kwong! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Its really going to depend on a few factors. 1) How wide are we talking about? I my example it was approx a Medium shot at 30% brightness in a fully controlled lighting environment, meaning that I was in a completely dark room and only used the Neewer 660 with softbox. If you are starting in a completely dark room you will have some power to spare 2) If you are going wider so that you can see down to your hips or past to your knees, you may need to move that light about another 1-2ft back. Its not a big deal to do so but as the light gets further away from you the shadows become harsher on you. Making having two lights to soften the shadow side more needed. But the problem is I have not tests the yongnuo, but based off the paper specs, its got less LED chips, half of them are one color and half the other color, so you will be taking a light decrease compared to the 660s. Not only that the Yongnuo has a built on diffusion cover where as the neewer you can take that off to then take advantage of the softbox diffusion instead and put more power through it, if you used these softbox on the yongnuo you will lose even more output and could run into problems if your camera and lens combination doesn't support decent high ISO exposure settings. These are the things I think of based on your needs. Generally speaking when working with lower powered LED panels, you always want to start in a dark room. Thats where these panels offer the most flexibility. The other way is to use a window as your main light source and then have the LED panel be the "fill side". There are many approaches to lighting from full control to some control. Depending on which situation you are in, you will need to experiment and learn how to work in each situation to get the results you want. I try my best to understand the questions coming in and respond accordingly so that it helps them on their process. A full video tutorial will definitely make it easier to explain as I can show what I mean haha. @@TLDR_filmmaker Might I suggest reviews based on the concept of doing remote work? Example. Web cameras and mics or lighting setups that make web casting look good. I know a few of my corporate clients asking me about tips because they are working from home and want to look good making company wide announcements without looking like they are in a bunker. Sometimes people just need to do something other than dwell on the Pandemic, or need a good distraction. Socializing online is a great way to do it, but people are still vain and want to stand out.

@@TLDR_filmmaker An interesting video would be comparing different editing software e.g. Davinci Resolve vs. Premiere Pro, maybe even FCPX. You could even throw some of the outliers in like Hitfilm.

Hey hey Everest! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! I don't think the smaller softbox will work because its opening is about 10 inches x 10 inches. While test you can probably latch it onto the light, a decent chunk of your LED's will be blocked. I can't think of any specific softboxes that would work with this more fluidly. I really like your videos, they are very helpful and i have enjoyed every single one of them, including this one! But in this case i will have to say that the test isn't as meaningful as i had hoped for. If the question wouldn't be which one to get, but rather if it would be worth it getting one of them at all, a few additional tests would have helped... Why? Because the softboxes dim down the light quite a bit and i really would have liked to see how the 660 would have performed with the diffusor installed AND dimmed down to the same exposure of the others, because i really think that dimmed down, the shadow would have looked softer too, probably not a lot, but still noticably. After all there would be less dynamic range involved. Also the highlights in your face would have been softer. Of course the softboxes will improve the softness of the key light regardless, but for us the question is, by how much compared to bare LED with diffusor plate. We are still on a very low budget and at the moment only the square ones are available in Germany, not sure if they are worth it, the circular one looked a lot better.

Hey hey Servus! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! This is definitely something I plan to tackle not specifically in this video as it brings in a major general note about softlight and how it can be achieved with various techniques. I primarily did just a constant LED output test with and without the Softbox so people can see just how much light gets cut at the first level, if you add the additional diffusion plate in front the LED it cuts down even further to the point where it will probably only be good for indoor complete controlled light situations. In this situation test situation if I were to dim down the LED to match what the softbox gives in terms of exposure, the shadows will become even harsher because I've cut down on overall output from the same distance and the light has a harder time wrapping around my face by the time it gets to me. If I were to full blast the light from the same distance and using an ND to compensate for the extreme overexposure, in theory it will be a softer image, not as soft as a softbox, but softer than a low dimmed - same distance - same source size. Its a crazy topic and I can't wait to dive into that video specifically. That being said, is the softbox worth it in the long run? Unfortunately it's a "it depends on your typical filming situation". While the Circular is definitely the better option, for me it comes down to convenience of setup. Because of it attaching onto the LED itself, I do not need to bring an additional light stand with a boom arm to hold a diffusion object in front of it. Hopefully in the future I can get an even more powerful wide beam LED panel behind it to use it more situations as a keylight for Med to Close ups. The Collapsing of these softbox is very cumbersome, and as I said in the video, I don't know if they will hold up with that much repeated twisting. For me I leave them open and just have them inside a large artist tote. But otherwise for the square one you gotta grab the corners and then twist twist twist until it gets back into a ball. A great video... I have always loved my octagonal softboxes, but it's just not practical to use my older 1000 watt continuous lights these days. I have a small squarish softbox for my LED light, but to find a round softbox with a grid at a reasonable cost has been something I have searched for. When funds allow, I am going this direction. I am curious.. what light bigger than the Neewer 660 might you recommend to go with the round softbox?

Unfortunately right now there isn't a whole lot of budget larger LED panels, all the budget companies right now are all producing the same 45-50 watt LED panel equivalent all about the same size. Some name brands out there have panels that are either the traditional 1x1 or larger that can pump out 100w or more, but it'll definitely cost a bit. There is a larger more powerful neewer panel light here: amzn.to/2zpLqgI (This is my amazon affiliate link, by using this link I get a small commission that directly supports this channel at no additional cost to you. If you choose the link I sincerely appreciate you support this channel Thanks!) But it's not a traditional square shape, so using it light the softbox may be a little interesting. Hey hey Shiv! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! There is not good or bad, there is only "whats going to work for you". This is a question I get a lot, I can only recommend what I believe is the best "all rounder" kit. But that does not mean it's going to be what you specifically need because the RGB and bi-color have their different strengths. If you don't know why you want an RGB or how you want to use it, then theres no real reason for you to get one. If you do know why you want one, then you technically wouldn't need me to tell you my recommendation. So that being said, my idea of two bi-color and one RGB is the most versatile setup. But if you know exactly what you're going for, then my recommendation is not justified, you should buy for exactly what you want for your setup. I talk about this a lot in my "think critically series" as I get a lot of questions on my recommendations without much knowledge of what someone wants to use the tool for. If you are getting up very close to the plate, then these softboxes can be brought in super close so that you get a nice softer look. If you are looking to show the entire plate on a dinner table, it may not be a large enough source and you'd have to go more traditional with larger softboxes. Again this really really depends on your style, you may like a more contrast photo for dramatics. For me I'm referencing what I'm used to seeing in food photos which are generally lit very bright and even. Hope this makes sense. Thanks again for stopping by! Hey hey Shawn! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Are the music videos just you in the video? Or are you looking to light up a standard 4 person setup? If it's just you and you make sure to draw all the window curtains, these 660's will do. However I would also suggest you check out some 60w powered lights as they will give you more output and end up spending less money overall than these panels. I have a review on 60w options here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZZimuLeTZa-9gKw.html I'd recommend the GODOX and then buying either diffusion curtains or a 5 in 1 reflector and shoot the light through it (Light 1-2ft away from diffusion). This will produce a much softer light with less harsh shadows compared to the neewer 660 softbox setup. These Panel softbox setups are more for closeup shots while the Godox setup will help for more full body shots. I am working on a lighting tutorial series soon that will hopefully help and demonstrate these concepts. But there are other videos out there that discuss you, it just may be harder to find as they are more general. Hope this points you in the right direction though! Thanks again for stopping by! Hey hey Sekrit! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! If you're talking about light stand mounting hole, this is standard and any light will mount to a light stand. If you're talking about the softboxes velcro mount and opening, this is not standard and you will want to look at the dimmcensions for the opening to fit whatever LED panel you decide to purchase. The Square is designed for the 660 series without the need of barn doors. The circular one will require you to leave your barndoors on so that you can strap it together. Hope this helps. Of course it also depends on your budget at this time for what you need. If you only had the budget to buy one light, then I would say get the Circular Softbox. If this is part of your beginning developing lighting kit and you don't already have a large 5 in 1 reflector set. I would actually say get a 2x 660 kit, circular softbox, and a large 5 in 1 reflector. Reason is because of how versatile the 5 in 1 reflector set can be as you develop your lighting kit. Hey thanks for the video! I had a question regarding your comments about event videography in here. When u said you’re “battling the natural light” what do you mean by that? Basically that these lights if u had them spread around the room for an event wouldn’t be able to do much compared to what that natural light is doing? I have an aputure 300d I’m trying to supplement with 2 lights to have a good 3 point set up. Would these do the trick for a hair and fill u think?

Hey hey Kaeroon! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Correct, I feel after the panel lights go through the diffusion it may not be enough to act as a key light and to some extent may not be enough for a fill light depending on the natural light coming into the room whether it be the sun or artificial lighting. I feel this setup works best if you have full control of lighting in the room whether it is to start with a dark space or try and bring down the overall room luminosity. And of course it just depends on what your shot composition is, the wider the shot the less likely these lights will do the trick. Hmm, again if you have full control of the room lighting situation, I feel these could work well with the 300d that has a nice softbox or diffusion fabric in front. Hair light will depend on if you want a soft or harsh one. The Bi-color definitely can hit a nice harsh hair light since it's more spot beam in nature. But once you throw that softbox on it you'll have to balance out all three lights in conjunction with your camera settings to try and get the best quality. All and all, its a hard question to answer because you have this super powerful nearly 10x brighter 300d and then the very less powerful LED panel. These situations is where you need to know everything about what and how you're going to use the lights you have to get the result you want. Otherwise most people would purchase a 300d and two 120d so that the lights are in a relatively similar range of use and can be adapter to many many situations. It's really only the more seasoned people that would probably prefer the SMD version. Essentially the trade off is this. Non-SMD = more light power SMD = less light power If you are just doing a talking youtube head like my review videos. Either one will work just fine. The SMD happens to have color modes. But if you plan to use the SMD for your face, then the color modes are moot as you won't be using them. There are more practical cheaper solutions for a green screen that I would recommend, a LED panel like this is a bit overkill on the budget for what you get out of it in terms of lighting a green screen. I would suggest getting something like this: amzn.to/2KtAoct (You'll need to buy its own light stand) and I use these LED light bulbs: kzread.info/dash/bejne/omGmptafYq3YkZs.html (Or you can purchase different more powerful ones) This setup gives you a softbox thats larger than this square softbox for the LED panels, it also gives you much more light output than the 660s can give. And at the end of the day, for less than the price of one panel and softbox you are able to light up the entire green screen. The reason I would go this route is because chances are your green screen, once it's setup, isn't going anywhere. The 660 panels have other features do not apply for the green screen, so you'd be wasting money on that vanity. Of course you can mix and match, instead of having a bunch of 660s, you can use the cheaper softbox to light the green screen and then use the 660s as lights to light yourself. But, even then, if the green screen is going to be setup in its own space, I would just continue with the softbox route for lighting yourself. LED panels are more or less meant for portability between your studio and a film set. If your studio is the film set, then I would just save the money so that you can get more lights, more power, work on the content, and then eventually invest in something more expensive if needed. But for the most part, a green screen setup is pretty much left stationary and never really changes. Hope this makes sense and helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Oh man, I bought a circular one but discovered the opening is waaay too large to fit my Aputure HR672W. I'm going to tape velcro strips to the back of my light and get full length velcro straps for the softbox. Hopefully that will work.

If not you might want to try just getting some rulers or meter stick and just form some sort of horizontal frames (antenna like) so that the softbox can use that to press itself against the light via its own velcro straps. Like several others have mentioned the tilting of the light is not possible with the softbox, but you said to flip the panel 180 degrees BUT then it is in a fixed position shooting the light straight out which is still bad, so that's not a great option either, unless you buy another piece to put in that allows you to tilt up and down. Is this the best (cheapest fix)?

Hey hey again Jeremy! I'm not sure what you mean... does your 660 not have a side mount? This shouldn't be the case. When you are in the side mounted position you have full tilt from pointing the light straight down and straight up. Again, look at the place where you connect the light to a light stand. There is the traditional vertical hole that you used, then there is a horizontal hole like I said before. Use the horizontal hole. Loosen the yoke. Attach the softbox to the light panel itself, do not overcross and connect the yoke with it too, I show this in the video. You should have full tilt in this orientation as it is designed to be use this way.

I can't say for sure if the pictures don't look the same. In theory the 660 should all have the same horizontal mount. This feature has become standard in most budget lights since 2018.

In terms of which would I recommend overall, I would recommend the 660 setup if your budget allows because it is fanless and much better made than the Bi-Color LED softbox combo. However if you are on a budget and just need something to get started, the softbox combo is a great way to get started as you learn. Hope this helps! Hey hey Eleven16Media! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! The 960 RGB light is longer than the opening on the back of the circular softbox. So while it will fit, there will be 1/5 of your LED's that will be blocked off and won't make it into the softbox. I was thinking about getting one of these to replace my umbrella rig, but are they going to be better than the umbrella or should I just save up and keep using the umbrellas. I dislike the space the umbrellas use in some situations so I might still get one for those situations.

Hey hey again Mobile Chaos! If you have the traditional open unbrella's that are not enclosed to almost look like a regular COB softbox (more common for flashes) Then yes, these will be better in terms of overall control of the LED light. When you are shooting your LED panel through an open umbrella, you are spilling light into the scene on open parts of the umbrella. These softboxes will contain the light inside and illuminate the front diffusion giving you a bit more control of where the soft light is directed. That being said, especially during this current time. If the umbrellas have been doing well for you so far and you're happy with the result, it's probably a good idea to save up some money to eventually make your way up to other gear whether it be lenses, different types of lights, etc.

Can you put these on one of those round Neewer 10" flapjack lights?

Hey hey Cailyn! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Depending on the lights, LED Panel or COB Style LED, your main goal to lessen the intense bright feeling and shadows is to make the light go through a material to make the light more pleasing to the camera as well as your eyes. Think of a large window in a living room space, if there are no curtains in front of it on a bright sunny day, it will feel very harsh on you and the room. When you pull some sheer curtains in front of it, it takes away that harshness of the light and lights your living room nicely. If you already have some video lights, the easiest way to achieve some soft light is either using some wax paper (if the light is powerful enough), or using those same sheer curtains and putting it 1-2ft in front of the light. Some people have even used shower curtains. Essentially any type of white material you can find that allows light to pass through it. Placing it 1-2 feet away from the light will being softening it up. From there you will want to place that setup as close to you as possible without it entering it into the videos frame. We do this because it technically softens the light on you even more and cast less shadows behind you. The further away you have a light, even if its soft, it will still cast some sort of shadow. Lastly with video lighting, you don't want it to be overhead of you like in a office. So videos where no lighting is done and just using overhead lights does not look as flattering. You'll usually want the lights at a 45 degree angle from where you're looking, one of each side. So that it provides a even lighting on your face. And its also 45 degrees vertical to your face so that you don't look like deer in the headlights. Lastly, both of those lights do no need to be at the same intensity setting. The general rule is one is set brighter than the other, you can play with these values to see which looks most pleasing for your type of video. I know this is a lot of info in a comment, but I wanted to get you started and thinking about what you can do. I do plan to create a video detailing a simple lighting setup for people that just want to get something started without much investment. Stay tuned! Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! As far as I'm concerned with these 2.4ghz wireless remotes (as well as all the 2.4ghz wireless mics I've reviewed) they will not interfere with wifi or other devices, if anything they may interfere with the remote because the signal that it has doesn't signal hop from what I can tell. Sometimes I may be 15ft away from the light in line of sight and it takes a second for the command to register. However a lot of lights now are using smartphone apps and those are definitely more responsive. But for the most part I would say it's not a major concern and in all honesty the amount of times where I've actually had to use the wireless remote features have been pretty rare. I think as you get used to lighting a subject and what you're lights are capable of, you won't need to readjust too much wirelessly. Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!

Thanks for testing out the different softboxes! I have watched this video a couple of times, but I am still not sure how to use the circular softbox. Do you use the barn doors to attach the circular softbox, or do you take of the barn doors? I have a set of bicolor 660 LEDs. Does this mean that I will only get a square-shaped light while using the circular softbox? Do I need a different LED to fully light the circular softbox?

Hey hey El Boyo Electronico! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Yes, for the circular version you'll need to keep your barn doors on. If you want to be able to have more tilt while using these softboxes, you need to make your 660 panel is mounted through the horizontal mount opening instead of the vertical mount opening (light stand). While the bi-color 660 will work in either case, the circular will benefit more by being filled out fully. In which case the easy way to know if your LED will fill it out is if the LED's are just squares (completely exposed). These are SMD led's and have a much wider beam. If your LED's have little plastic domes over it, then your LED beam is more concentrated to the center. So for the circle softbox you'll want a more Flood beam to light up as much of the material as possible. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Since don't have the SMD LEDs in my Neewer 660s and therefore have to work with the circular softbox not being fully lit, do you think the circular softbox was a bad choice in my case? Given that I will only use the circular softbox with the 660s for talking head videos, the light fall-off - since not fully lit - might hopefully not be a problem, because the they head will be the center of the shot. Or should I get the square softbox instead? Thanks in advance!

You're most welcome! Honestly I don't feel its a problem because a smaller square softbox isn't necessarily going to make it night and day better because you're now lighting a smaller surface area. So the light fall off won't be better because of that respect. The circular one, while this current time, isn't used to it's fullest capacity, should you upgrade your LED's later that are SMD based, you'll be good to go. I personally, like in the video, would just go for the circular ones first and only use the square as a supplement rather than the primary.

Hey hey Steven! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! This would depend on what kind of shot you are going for for your channel. If your shot is like mine where its closer and you don't see more of my torso. Than these 660 lights paired with the softbox will be enough. You may not actually need a softbox for the hair light depending if you want a harsher look. The honeycomb is not necessary depending on what room you're in. If there is a lot of room behind you and you don't want like to go into that area, you use the honeycomb on your key, not necessarily fill as the fill usually won't be blashing light as brightly. If you are near a wall (2-3 feet). You do not need to use a honeycomb as it does not really do much in that respect. A honeycomb you are directly light in a direction so that you don't fill the sides of you with light if you don't want to. This is all to taste, but this is the general idea of what they do. So I can't say for sure if you should or shouldnt, thats going to be up to you and experimenting with your lighting setup. Its not a bad idea to get the honeycomb for the circular. I feel the square ones you probably don't need to, especially the hair light. But if you want to, it never hurts to have options if it doesn't tear into your budget. Hope this helps! @@TLDR_filmmaker the shot will normally always be a talking head style. some times I'll be doing a demo/zoom style video where the lights will be attached to the desk so pretty close to me, other times on their stands where I'll be about 2-3 ft away with a grayish wall behind me. I think the 3 panel lights with soft boxes should work out correctly I hope so anyways lol

I can't see a dimension measurement of the panel itself minus the barn doors. If the panel is about a 1'x1'x then the circular one should work. The only part about the Godox is if the yoke has a horizontal mounting point to the light stand. If it doesn't, then you won't really be able to get much tilt when the softbox is attached. So LED panels these days have two way of mounting onto a light stand (I'm assuming you meant this when you said Tripod). So the way you have mounted now is vertical, there is actually a horizontal opening on the LED light stand mounting point. Simply use that mounting hold instead and now your LED panel will be mounted horizontally. From there when you have the softbox on, you will have full tilting range. Hope this helps! I'm considering a neewer 660 bi-color rather than a 480 for self tape auditions. I want to add a flexible to be used as a fill or hair light. Your suggestion of an umbrella to soften is a good one. Hey hey Jeff! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! The specific softboxes for the 660's are more convenient in terms of it being less of a contraption. However I feel the umbrella is still the better way to go to soften your facial features and look more pleasing. The square softbox is too small in my opinion and the round one is expensive compared to a umbrella. But also because with self tape auditions, they may request a wide short and you will have to move the light a little further back, making it not as soft when it hits your face. If the umbrella route is rather cumbersome to setup in your space. A cheap trick is a dollar store shower curtain (frosted type, not clear) and you place it about 2 feet away from the light. This will also give you a soft light to work with. Some people just tape it to the ceiling and let it drape down instead of using a light stand. This will also give you a very soft even light. That being said these are my thoughts. Budget LED's these days in this class or power draw more or less all perform the same, neither one is going to be a huge difference where one is far superior. In theory the Neewer 660 could be a little brighter because it has more LED diodes, but if so again, probably not by much. So in short, buy the one that first your budget or whichever is on-sale. You most likely will not suffer a night and day difference like you would if you bought a Budget LED panel vs a budget COB led light. The two LED tech have different advantages and output. Hey hey crackconchkilla! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! When you say "Blogging" do you mean going handheld run and gun, or do you mean that you have time to setup wherever you may be to get your shot. As far as Product Photography goes, these will do just fine if the items are small, for larger items where you may need to get the light further away, you can lower your shutter to compensate while on a tripod. So in my eyes, these should be just fine for that purpose. When it comes to blogging, these lights won't do much in terms of battling the sun outdoors, indoors you'll want to have as much control of the light in the room as possible (General rule for me). So if you have a huge bay window letting in a gorgeous amount of sun, you may want to try and tame it with a sheer curtain or black out completely so that you have more control of these 660s. Its unfortunately one of those "it depends" because these lights arn't going to battle larger light sources but really work well when you are in an environment where you have full control of starting your lighting setup from dark to maybe a little bit of light. I like the circular version but where's the grid? Do they not make a grid for it? That's would be the only down side.

James Wong this would give you a more directional quality especially with the grid. The umbrella doesn’t have a backside so it just bounces light everywhere

Great video! I am looking for a solution where I could lighten up a person walking across the room, etc. I figured someone holding the Neewer 660 + the softbox moving right in front of that person would be the cheapest and fairly good solution. Would you agree or rather recommend something else?
