A master of the machine in difficult conditions. Little knowledge of machine elements. Dimensional adjustment by trial and error where 1/100 is required at the bearing seat. Cuts threads with the pointed chisel instead of turning a smooth surface. An end product is only good because of its function. Not by taking a daring step.

I want to see a 3 month old baby manufacture a 4 ton shaft. Now that would impress me
He doesn't seem all that old to me. He seems to be keeping a lot more numbers in his head than I can. He's a sharp old master, and pretty brave. Who takes the hit if he blows it? That's not a cheap hunk of steel and it gets pretty tight dimensionally. In addition to primitive shops, I bet their insurance policies are not so hot either. This is really pretty serious stuff, huh?

Old man? Looks like he's a decade younger then I am and I feel I'm relatively young. 40 years ago people his age were considered old when they reached his age, but times have changed. Companies want to hire employees in that age bracket because they are mature, dependable, and particular!

So unfortunate that the so called skill has serious limitations, any first year mechanical apprentice would know you never weld on a machine unless you can see both positive and negative leads very close to each other, these guys were welding 'thro' the machine bearings! To help explain further the welding current it passing through the machine bearings on the main spindle of the chuck.
