True as far as I know, there is a lot in the song that was public. Em's childhood was pretty messed up from what's known. Place he lived was dangerous - same for all of his friends in that regard. Dad abandoned the family, mom had Munchausen by proxy, abusive stepfather, didn't fit in because he was white until he made some good friends who vouched for him. A lot of his songs really show the impact of his environment. They can be very dark. He said they were his form of therapy. You'd probably like When I'm Gone, similar to this one. Til I Collapse is probably another one you could try to show a bit if his other side - I don't think anyone hates that song. Fun reaction 😉

Alaina (Laney) is his niece, hence why he refers to himself as uncle when he mentiones her for the first time. She was the daughter of his ex-wife's twin sister, who had a drug problem and couldn't care for her, so he adopted her as his legal daughter. He also adopted his ex-wife's daughter Whitney, whom she had with another man.
