Been playing and listening to this game's music since 2011 in its late Beta, still is some of the best I have come across despite how much I have listened to it I will never get tired of it.
The thing about Minecraft's soundtrack is that it isn't linear at all. You're playing the game without music, hearing only the nature around you... and then, out of nowhere, the ost starts playing, making these moments somewhat special, easier to remember. Relaxing, nostalgic and beautiful.

I strongly agree with it being relaxing, nostalgic and special I can still remember the first time hearing Mice On Venus. It was either 2012 or 2013 and I had a bad day at School so when I got back home after doing my homework and ate dinner I was playing Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition and I was just walking around the TU11 world and the sun was starting to set so I stayed within the castle area due to light and little to no monsters spawning, then I got on top of the castle walls and went to where the lit netherrack with the flames was at and just looking up staring at the moon rising and seeing the stars with the faint sounds of the animals in the barn. I have no idea why but I felt a whole lot better after that but it's still one of those little fond memories I made when I was young playing Minecraft.

Yeah, the idea of the game randomly introducing music was because the game wouldn't know where the player was or what he was doing so it would need to have music that could fit in any scenario and damn, C418 made some absolute masterpieces with this in mind

Absolutely love how the chat is saying "classic" or "iconic" for pretty much every track and it's always right lol. Millions of people grew up with Minecraft me included, this soundtrack is engraved in video game history.
This game was so beautifully made and so cared for by what was just a handful of developers just shootin the shit. What you hear isn’t a linear soundtrack as you may know. Every song comes on at a almost specific/nonspecific time, The sunrise, the sunset, looking over the horizon for the world ahead of you, going underground in a depth unknown with unknown danger around you (which some are slightly different in game) this game didn’t give you story, you made your own story. It became something unfathomably big to the point a young kid at this time might not know what windows is, but they know what minecraft is. I will never forget playing this game till the AMs of the morning as a young boy and just that perfect song comes on with the birds chirping outside

Minecraft is a completely open-world game. It gives you a randomly generated natural world to explore and manipulate to your desires. C418, when composing for the game, had to figure out a way to write music that could be played at ANY time. Exploring an icy mountain? Diving to the bottom of the ocean? Wandering a desert? Delving deep into a cave? The music needed to fit any of these moments. What he settled on was having these atmospheric, stripped back tracks that give a sense of hope but also sadness. Lost and alone in a vast world, nobody to talk to, no goal other than those you set for yourself, these tracks randomly play throughout your exploration of the world. Sometimes, the music kicks in right as you put the finishing touches on your house, or stumble upon a gorgeous vista, and it really helps cement those memories and make them special.
@_M41KU_
Жыл бұрын
It also helps with preventing the music to get repetitive. I could only imagine if it had a Mario overworld type soundtrack playing nonstop until you exit and enter another biome. For an open world game where you spend 100+ hours, an atmospheric ost was the best choice.

Fun facts about these sondtracks A number of them aren't actually in-game like door for example, I think the reason was because C418 wanted to make the album a bit special The Track "cat" is actually unable to play randomly but it is played through an item that item is a music disc which is played through a jukebox also in-game cat & dog are both on the same disc There are 2 main gamemodes in minecraft survival and creative, the last track aria math only plays in creative mode This isn't the full ost there are some more, also about 99% of the tracks are passive but a few are somewhat overwhelming or unsettleing in a way that fits the area they play in (btw there are 3 dimensions in total the main one that is visible in the images on the videos are the overworld basically the main area)

@@IronSK They are random, but tracks have restrictions on when they are played (notably gamemode, dimension, biome, and music discs), and Subwoofer Lullaby is able to play anywhere in the overworld without getting anything, so while it's no earlier than for example, Sweden (which also plays anywhere in the overworld), it is earlier than "Ballad of Cats" (which only plays in the Nether), and more likely to play first than "Infinite Amethyst" (which only plays in groves and dripstone caves). I cannot express to you how great it is for me to revisit these tracks with someone who's listening to them for the first time and who can also disect and analyze them. Thank you very much for this channel and your time!
Subwoofer Lullaby, Living Mice and Haggstrom all take me back to such a wonderful period of my life when i had just discovered this game. Back when all the grass and trees had lime green color to them instead of the biome-specific colors they have now. Back when cobblestone blocks had that weird black border in them. When chests took up a full block and made the same opening/closing sounds as doors did. back when the player character still had that iconic OOF sound effect when getting hurt. Spam-clicking your bow, the old Creeper explosion sfx. I remember SO MUCH about this era of the game. Had many amazing memories with it aswell. Minecraft is a must recommend for ANYONE that wants to get into gaming. it's the perfect blend of combat, resource gathering, base building and exploration and is VERY beginner friendly.

This soundtrack is literally the embodiment of nostalgia for me. Ever since I was 8 my life revolved around this game for years and i did most of my growing up with it. Its soundtrack from the very beginning struck me as something unusual, and it very quickly became super nostalgic, a feeling which only increased. Over the years. By the way, I am 18 now. Only now sunk in it's been 10 years for me.
Very interesting to see your reaction and comments about these OSTs. These OSTs, especially living mice, when I listen to them I feel nostalgic and I feel deeply sad remembering when I still cared about being alive and didn't have any responsibilities. Greetings from Brazil.
The beauty I find in this soundtrack is that it feels so nostalgic, even if you haven't played the game. Maybe not nostalgia for the game, even, but as a whole. It makes you think of the past, the good and the bad. It has such enriching tones of peace, and even some offsetting feelings of somberness. It was so well put together.
Fun fact: Moog City was inspired by the moog synth, but doesn't use it, but Moog City 2 actually does use it.

As much as I love Minecraft. Most of the music is NOT exactly music that youd be listening to back to back. It happens at random moments while playing giving the feeling of adventure, nostalgia, loneliness. So as much as I love it the feeling isn't the same as playing the game and the music hitting you while sitting around building your base.
It's funny coming back to this video as your first glimpse into Minecraft now that your channel has a bunch of content related to it, it's truly a universal game. For me it's fun to look back at when I first played Minecraft and compare to where I am today, *still* playing it. I was 11 when I first played one of the initial releases of Minecraft , it was so wonderous and allowed for so much freedom it was literally like exploring a whole other world. Today I'm far more on the technical side of things yet still enjoying the game all the same. I've hosted servers, created mods, participated in building competitions and honestly, I accredit this game for the interest I took in programming and now my career as a computer scientist. I have met so many friends, created so many things, explored hundreds of worlds and enjoyed probably thousands and thousands of hours of content made by others on it. I don't think I'm alone when I say this game probably shaped a nice chunk of my later childhood. This game will forever hold a special place in my heart, a place I can always go to for that childlike wonderment and exploration even 14 years later.
This was such a fun journey and analysis of some amazing music. Thank you for analyzing like this. It would be fun to see some vids of you performing the piano tracks like Wet Hands or Dry Hands. Btw, Aria Math is the best track.
Awesome reaction commentary
Good choice for doing aria math and the end. Awesome track probably my favourite
As you've now heard, this is one of the most well known soundtracks of all time. The songs you heard today were actually the original songs in the game, but I highly recommend listening to the new ones made by Lena Raine within the last few years, they're still in the same vibe but definitely more active in different ways. Definitely worth another video just for those ones
I was so happy that youtube recommended me this. I love your insight and input and I really like the music Minecraft has, the old music and not the new stuff. I like nether tracks too and the credits screen. Subwoofer lillaby gives me this vibe of getting lost in the infinite world and not remembering where your house or base was. Mice on venus is my favorite with the bird-like tweeing at the end half. I think some of these like Door is not actually heard in-game anywhere or included in game files.
Now all i need to see is his reaction to the song "Alpha" by C418
57:55 gosh sweden makes me cry every.damn.time its just so nostalgic and calming. But at the same time it’s so heart wrenching. It captures the journey of minecraft throughout the years soooo well
This is so cute, I love how you analyze the music and use a base level knowledge of the game to build an image in your mind of what the game might be via music. Great analyses!
Amazing stream
I don't know why, but this soundtrack brings me to tears whenever I listen to it. It's from so long ago and I get a nostalgic feeling from my childhood when my soul still felt at peace. Beautiful
This soundtrack makes me emotional every time i hear it
My favorite music, its so calming and nostalgic
I think you would really enjoy volume beta too, personally I prefer it and I would love to see you check it out. Aria Math is on it too, but there are some awesome tracks like "dreiton"
I'm so happy that you got to hear Aria Math, even though it isn't part of the Alpha album. It's my favorite Minecraft track and I'm really glad I got to hear your insight on it!
I would love your reaction about the Beta volume. It's so interesting. My most favorite tracks actually come from there.
This live is so calming
It’s really interesting to watch people talk about minecraft and ask questions. It reminds me of when people first play dungeons and dragons. There are so many possibilities, it’s hard to comprehend before you actually get into all of it.
OSTs that i like really much, are the 3008 and Doors (From Roblox) and Shadow of The Collossus, they're all really good too
It always gives me goosebumps
