Old Cabin Renovation: Living room wall going down!

Spare of the moment project... Pink and I have been discussing doing this for a long time now, and since we are already in the middle of the bathroom renovation, we decided to tackle the task.

    Pink is happy. Enough said. I watched you guy's when you bought the place, what a dump it was. The tiny palace is coming together. And happiness is where you make it.

    Ye Thanks. We don't feel like we are living in a bunch of small connected boxes anymore. The flow between the rooms is nice. Pink

    Hi Mo I see you're just as good as tearing things apart as you are putting them together 😊 I kept hoping you weren't going to hit that mirror.😊 Going to look like a whole new cabin when you are finished. I see Pink is elated.😊 Back when I was doing construction. I did some additions to a few homes that size. They were starter homes built for young couples after WW2 back in the late 40's and early 59's You could buy one for $10k or less. Wishing you the best of success as you do this upgrade.

    Awesome idea, I did that in my small cottage last year between the kitchen and liv. room and what a difference in the winter with the heat stove and also making both rooms lighter and open yet still cozy.

    I didn't understand why you cut the two 2x4s out and put in 2 x 4 s ? good team work

    Aren't you supposed to turn your 2x4s in a header on their side so they can't sag?

  • @offgridchallenge

    @offgridchallenge

    Normally yes but I wouldn't have been able to screw the studs into the ceiling if I had them on their side... Should be fine, but if we start to see sagging we'll jack it back up and add more supports although not ideal since we wanted to keep it as open as possible. So far all is good.

    You know... After giving it more thought I decided to beef it up a bit more... Look for it in the next video. And thanks for pointing that out, caused me to reflect a bit more on that header.
