For any Americans in the audience - in Europe, when you see the Confederate flag, you usually see it flying alongside other flags like the England flag (not necessarily bad), or Sinn Fein flag (arguably pretty bad) or the swastika.

The reason why the Confederate flag gets a mention in this story might not be obvious to Americans because they might not understand why a person in England immediately assumed it connects to racism. I've explained why Europeans will make that association. Why are YOU taking that personally?
