Oktoberfest Munich, The World’s Largest Beer Festival

Every fall, millions of people gather in Munich, Germany to drink beer, eat soft Brezen (pretzels), and celebrate Bavarian culture. Oktoberfest simply called the “Wiesn” is the world's largest beer festival which typically draws over six million visitors during its three-week run.
The first day of Oktoberfest is known for tradition "O'zapft is!" (in Bavarian "It is tapped"), the Mayor of Munich opens beer barrel with hammer in the Schottenhamel tent at noon. Right before that is held opening parade what is a fun thing to do for all ages.
What to wear to Oktoberfest? The traditional outfits for Oktoberfest are a dirndl for women and lederhosen for men. The beer tents, of course play only traditional Bavarian music. Best Oktoberfest song Ein Prosit plays on a pretty constant rotation. When the marching drums start, everyone stands, sings along and at the very end of the song toast a beer, it’s rude not to. Oktoberfest songs encourages synchronized bier drinking. The repeated phrase “Eins, Zwei, G’suffa” is a countdown to taking a swig. 17 big beer tents are the largest and most traditional breweries in Munich. It is worth reserving a table in the festival tents in advance. All the bier tents serves great food, must try Oktoberfest foods are the Weissewurst (white sausage), Hendl (roasted chicken), and vegetarian Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle).
Oktoberfest 2023 began on Saturday, September 16 and ends on Tuesday, October 3.

Thanks for watching. The entry to the festival and to the tents is free. It is worth reserving a table in the tent in advance. We didn't make a reservation and asked for available table during lunch time of opening day in three different tents. We were super lucky that someone just left and we got a seat on the second floor but the tents were really fully booked and most people sit there for hours so don't count on that. I know that some people also come very early in the morning to catch a table without reservation but in this case they can't leave the table and they miss the parade. Hope this helps 🙂.

@@gotraveldiscover I read that tables are not free during the evening - you have to pay to reserve it, but it is free for breakfast and lunch if you find an unoccupied table.

Oktoberfest is on the largest fairground in Munich - the Theresienwiese. The entry to the festival and to the tents is free but it is worth reserving a table in the tent in advance. You can do it here: www.oktoberfest.de/en/beer-tents/reservations-at-oktoberfest#:~:text=For%20most%20of%20the%20festival,the%20start%20on%20their%20websites. Price depend on the tent and number of people. For the opening weekend it gets booked up quickly. You can come very early in the morning to catch a table without reservation.

Useful info: Backpacks and large bags are generally forbidden within the festival area. Don't bring anything or you will have to leave it at lockers next to the entrance.

It is not a beer festival. It’s a Volksfest. An event for a lot different times of Entertainment. Beer is traditionally drunk there but it is not the core of the festival and not the cause for the festival. The people who live and work on those festivals (in German „Schausteller“) have a long history that goes back to the jesters and traveling minstrels. To call the Oktoberfest a „beer festival“ is offending.

It is not "The World's Largest Beer Festival." It is however Munich's largest festival for the six biggest breweries in Munich, which incidentally all brew the same kind of beer - Helles.
