I've always wanted to visit that aquarium ever since I first saw a picture of that massive viewing room of that massive tank with the whale shark. Years after first saw that picture I managed to visit Atlanta's Georgia Aquarium, where they had a similar tank and viewing room (just a bit smaller, 19m vs 22m) with a whale shark. A few years after that I went to Japan but... with so many places to see in the main island I didn't end up going to Okinawa (next trip for sure!) - I did manage to see two (small) whale sharks at Osaka's Aquarium, didn't even know they had them! Apparently there are only 5 aquariums in the world that house whale sharks, and three of them are in Japan! PS: I love the jellyfish tanks too, many aquariums have them in those cylindrical tanks in dark rooms, with light that slowly fades between different colors, it really is hypnotic 😅

Very impressive. Thanks for including the video clips of the Giant Aquarium with the circling Whale Shark as well as the Avataresque jellyfish. Cameron would be proud of that cinematographic effort. All that was lacking for us was the 3-D, but being there in person you experienced that as well. While not on the same scale, our humble aquarium at the Sea Life Center in Seward, Alaska does include large sea mammals and I suspect Leo would also be enchanted with the underwater whale scenes filmed there in the Drew Barrymore made in Alaska film "Great Miracle."

That should have been, "Big Miracle," not "Great Miracle." It was fun watching the movie being filmed. The opening scene is of a whale hunt in a northern sea that was filmed at the small lake just down the street from my house. Fog from fog machines hid the autumn colored trees that surrounded the lake. The city of then named Barrow had its Main Street recreated on a sand bar just below my office along with the the ice field set that included huge animatronic whales that we could watch bob up and down in the replicated water filled ice holes as the camera rolled. The movie even includes a real life cameo of Sarah Palin in her role as a Sports News Broadcaster - her actual job at the time- as she then reported on the whale rescue upon which the movie is based. It is one of those rare movies that has something for everyone, kids and adults. Anyway, getting back to the subject of aquariums, Drew Barrymore specifically took diving lessons so she could swim with the whales in the aquarium at Seward Alaska's Sea Life Center. (She was actually reaching out and touching seals that in post editing, through the magic of CGI, became whales in the movie.)
