Tbf I'm pretty sure that blast of energon that revived Bumblebee also fixed Stratosphere a bit because his engine stopped smoking during flight and he wasn't as rickety too at the end

It is actually true that ground based transformers can’t just fly. It requires surgery and modifications to do it if they weren’t born with it. Megatron is one such example, he was a tank type, but gained the ability to fly via surgical modifications.

Wouldn't that depend on the continuity though? That definitely holds true for certain settings, but I swear some series just gloss over the specifics of that for the sake of keeping things simple and straightforward.

@@Elysium4 some continuities refuse to explain how it works, and I think that only makes things more complicated. I usually use the explanations from continuities that have more extensive lore as reference points, since they actually took the time to flesh out the universe and it's function. The new film continuity has offered very little in terms of lore, so I'm using G1 and Aligned to fill in potential gaps.

@@jacobcramer2853 source: trust me bro. While it’s true that they can replicate any matter type necessary for their vehicle form, each of them have limitations. This is also a separate continuity from Michael Bay’s films. Bumblebee and ROTB draws inspiration from G1, IDW, and Aligned continuities, which applies the Well of Allsparks Primus design logic.

The way he just dislocates is hilarious

The real reason is that a trip that far would take way too much energon and would require the use of a space bridge (which the key activates) or a quantum drive which hasn’t been invented in the live action continuities.

That key should have made a gigantic explosion

From what I remember the reason autobots can’t fly is A-first it was they were built for manual labor, so only a few were made with flying capabilities. I feel like that could make sense why in the movie the one built for transport could fly B-in a retcon, it was made that autobots were the 1.0 version, and the deceptions were the 2.0 version, built for combat so they got flight. Kinda makes sense since deceptions tend to be ruthless and aggressive

Those were escape pods, they're designed to be launched from something in the event of an emergency, as seen in Bumblebee. That, and I'm pretty sure they were only designed for 1 trip as they shatter when they land.

Ngl thinking about it now... why isn't there an autobot like Astrotrain? At most, there's Sky Lynx, but good luck getting him in the movies.

Iirc, there’s actually a reason for not turning into a ship: they need fuel, and none of them are large enough for a transport vessel to carry other cybertronians and fuel for the trip.
