Okavango Swamp Cats
Фильм және анимация
Part of a film made on Safari at Duba Plains in the North of the Okavango Delta in Botswana. It was here that Derek and Beverly Joubert made thieir superb film "Relentless Enemies" over a period of approx three months. This film is focussed on the Lions of Duba and a buffalo Hunt on our safari over a stay of just three days. Joubert it isn't, but if you like Lions I hope you will enjoy it.

I saw the beginning of how that lion got her silver eye. And how they came to the swamp because of one lion. And she was the one that took silver eye out. It was because of a fire and she had to get away with her baby cubs. It's an awesome heartfelt story. Glad to see they are all together. It's not as beautiful as it was back then.

A fascinating story Catharine thank you. It was amazing how she had adapted to her condition and it certainly did not affect her ability to hunt. Since I took the video in 2008 things have changed a lot at Duba and the prides are more dispersed. More particularly it is now too expensive a camp for most people to afford.
That Lion was so cool just putting his paw out so calmly and like "Thank you ladies, I'll take that!" Lol!

That's what they do and harsh though it may seem the females know it will happen in return for which the male keeps them safe, at least whilst he is strong enough.

Thank you very much for your far too generous comments. I am really glad you enjoyed it. The Okavango is a very special place I just hope that the video gives a good impression of what it is like.
What it means to be a safari is what this video showed. Wish I could be in that team! LOL. Thanks for sharing with us.
Great video, thanks for posting.

Many thanks for the comment and I am glad you enjoyed the film. You are of course right about silver eye it was just that at the camp they were not certain. One guide had never heard of the Jubert's. It is a very special place though I gather that recently the pride has split and things are changing. That's life of course but at least we have the great memories.

Hello Viti. You are very generous in your comments but really the inspiration for me came from Beverly and Dereck Joubert and their wonderful film called Relentless Enemies which was sited at Duba Plains. My amateur effort is of course not a patch on theirs but they had months to film their production, we only had 3 days but I hope I captured the essence of this wonderful place and as you say those amazing big cats. You could not believe the size of their legs and pads from living in such a watery world. Wonderful stuff. Thanks for watching it and letting me know you enjoyed it.
Awesome post thank you. I'm going to Botswana later in the year, so this made great viewing. Thanks again.
Great movie / video. I visited Duba last December and am headed back in November. FYI: Silver Eye lost her eye and sight in a fight with another lion. The Joubert's captured that fight on film and it is in the movie "The Last Lions"
great video,voice as well,loved it.

Lions rules are very difficult ,,but are so beautiful creators with their powerful attacks and powerful killing ,,I like the Lions , lioness and Tigers..
Muhsen you seem to have a distorted view of my motives. You will have noticed that my videos do not have adverts. I make NO money from them. I only post them to share my interests with like minded people. I am very pleased that so many do share my love of Africa.

Good morning Tony. When we were at Duba in 2008 there were no cubs at all nor had there been any for quite a while. Things improved in subsequent years but I was told last year that the pride had split and the whole situation had changed. The smaller pride had moved on and the buffalo were not being predated as much. The years of "relentless enemies" had changed quite a bit. But who knows, what goes around comes around"
Many thanks for watching and letting me know you liked it. It’s quite a while since we went to Duba but it was a wonderful experience.

They certainly were but it was their size that really impressed. Living in such a watery world had really increased their muscles and given them added presence. I just love the way they look straight through you or often totally ignore you. Thanks for watching.

In most cases you are right they will avoid water if they can but the Okavango is very special and crossing or hunting in water is the only way to survive.
Excellent

Great video, most powerfull lionesses i ever saw!
Thank you for your comments Samir. The animals are very used to the vehicles and learn not to see the truck as a threat. The key is always to remain in your seat. If anyone stands up then it creates a different profile and might make it seem like a threat to the animal.

Nice work! The answer to your question about silver eye, may be, if memory serves, the Nat Geo film by Joubert's called The Last Lions. A lone lioness is attacked by silver eye and her pride where silver eye earns her wound and nickname.

I could not agree more. All the pride were big but he was just magnificent though a little thin after 2 or 3 days of mating. That’s why he took the kill from the pride. Thank you for watching the video.

Hi, I am surprised the commentator said they did not know how Silver Eye had her eye damaged as the Jouberts filmed it in their film The Last Lions. It was when her pride moved in and took over the territory. That territory was held by a single male and only one lioness, who had cubs. I won't give away details of one of the most amazing films ever made but the lioness did that to Silver Eye when she and her females attacked.

@natben45 the male always looks as if he has the easy life. in return for protection the females allow him to have his share first. He must protect them from other males seeking their own pride and from predators. If they are attack a buffalo they also use their weight to help the females knock it down.
Sorry David. It looks greedy I know but he is doing only what he has to survive. During mating they do not eat for possibly for two, three or more days and lose a lot of weight. Also he protects the pride so he has to be strong and healthy. The females made another kill later so did not go hungry for long.
Here here and all the other wildlife too.
I am not sure I fully understand your point Rubén but it is deadly serious for the animals literally one of life and death.

Thanks for your video. I read many articles and see lots of lion documentaries. I'm always amazed when a see a single lion or lioness or few lions facing fearlessly a buffalo herd. These lions teaches us how adaptable and clever they are. They learn to hunt as a semi aquatic predator, a domain that was believed to be only for the tiger and the jaguar. However, they are not hunting like these two other big cats. Instead they found some new hunting tactics that suits their characteristics. Reading a lot about the lion's history this lion abilities is after all not surprising. In history the lion was the most spread animal on earth. This shows their capacities of founding solutions to resolves problems. There were lions in the hot savannas and arid regions, in India, in mountains, in the cold regions of Siberia and Canada up the Shout America. Some of these regions were not traditional lion ground at all. Lions found a way. To no surprise, in 2012 National Geographic recognized this specie as the world's very top predator.

Many thanks for watching the video Ross. I can only agree with what you say about Lions. There is also evidence of their being here in the UK, a very long time ago of course. What I find so sad now is just how much pressure they are under now though thankfully some countries are taking measures to try and conserve what they have before they become extinct.
This is simply a superb video. Beautifully shot and narrated, and it does the Duba lions proud. Are you a professional filmmaker? If not, you should be. Thanks for making it clear that Duba, and indeed the Okavango Delta in general should be an essential stop on every safari itinerary.
Glad you liked it and thank you for letting me know
Many thanks Imran. It’s good to know you liked it. Gerry
At the time I originally made this film I was reflecting the information given by the guide. Since then of course I have enjoyed and been jealous of the wonderful filming of the Jubert's and learned the story behind this amazing place and Silver Eye. I hope you enjoyed the video anyway.
Thanks that's amazing wildlife video channel
We did not save it because that would have been the wrong this to do.I believe that we can watch but not interfere with nature. It is often sad to see the kill but that is not happening for our pleasure simply the fact of life in the wilderness.
