"now" is an important part of that statement i feel, because she very much does at this moment. she doesn't understand how mortal minds work, and as gods tend to do cuts her losses instead of trying to learn. odysseus has put most of his life towards the bond he believes they have, while for her the time spent is barely nothing at all.

While yes in his shoes you might side against Athena, in the long run you will see her side way more. Painfully so. Also, as his patron goddess, Athena leaving him is a big deal since he no longer has divine help in his future hurdles.

@@giant_pigeon These stories come from times in which such extremes were more normal, where people often had to make life or death decisions, its not stupid you have just lived in a modern world thats very comfortable and priveleged such as you dont have to worry about what you would do in a less safe world

@MrJpc1234 I could argue the opposite tho. We use to do alot of doumb shit in history fr. The same way women or black people couldn't vote. Just because they use to do it doesn't make it smart or necessary. Their culture back then was ruthlessness is mercy, and so you were weird if you thought different. If there's anything old Greek costoms and Roman's hated most it was free thinkers mfs not afraid to be passionate and compassionate. Everything was tradition, and the norm, ig that means I'm not cut out for an ancient odyssey of my own lol but objectively nothing good has ever come from extremes. Look at every Greek story and tell me why 90% are tragedies. These stories if anything are warnings not to. Only the sith deal in absolutes

I slightly stand with Athena more becauce even though sparing the cyclops was a good thing the only mistake Odysseus made was giving the cyclops his actual name and where he lived meaning the cyclops can tell his family or the other cylcops in the cave and they are able to find him and kill him. this was the reason why on the last animatic the cyclops was smiling at the end.

Yeah Odysseus claimed what he did was kindness but what he did with yelling his name was just mocking the Cyclops. Once again, a Greek showing hubris.

I agree with all of this. In fact Athena is in my top three favorite characters in the musical. Though I would like to add that Odysseus has no reason other than Athena's words "He's still a threat until he's dead" and "Don't" to believe the cyclops could be a threat to him by giving his name. They can't leave their island without drowning because even if they could figure out where Ithaca was, they couldn't swim there nor build boats big and sturdy enough to support them. It's still undeniably a mistake, but I think it's an understandable one. Especially given his current mindset of "I have to carry on Polites' flame of goodness and mercy and open arms. No more killing. I can't let him die in vain." Edit: changed "reason to other" to "reason other"

@@ShyyGaladriel He claimed it was kindness, but he left that cyclops to survive while being blind. Get all his food, maybe fight with other cyclops? I doubt survival was easy even for cyclops. And he's vulnerable for any other attack now.

Odysseus bound to feel upset when Athena leaves her cause they have been together for decades i guess. I mean you have to forge a bond with someone or in this case a god if you spent time with them for years. Its a sad breakup honestly for Odysseus and maybe to Athena too. Can't wait for the Ocean saga.

She is disappointed and angry for 2 reasons. Firstly he spared the cyclops and secondly he revealed his name out of emotion. We must remember that during the first song of the Cyclops saga he presented himself as a nobody, as she taught him. But at the end of Remember Them the cyclops smiled because he now knows the name of his enemy. We understand why in the ocean saga. Thank you for your videos I appreciate them I love your reactions😁

Athena is mostly right in this situation if you look at it with a cool head but Odysseus is not in a right state of mind to actually understand what he'd done by deanoning himself. "One day you'll hear what I'm saying, one day you might understand, one day but not today, for after all you are just a man." P.S. "You're alone!" shouted in Athena's face really hurt her and it's confirmed by Jorge himself.

In this musical, the gods can indeed make their own choruses. When Odysseus sings, his chorus consists of his men typically. An example is in the song , the horse and the infant.

In all honesty, I think they are both right on some points. Mercy should be something practiced more but WHO you spare is also important. Athena was only upset not because he showed mercy but because he spared a creature that still had the power to destroy his people and town. Odd also made the horrible choice to give the Cyclop all the information he needed to do just that at the end of “Remember Them” [Hench why he was smiling] and Odd knew there were multiple other Cyclops/monsters that clearly cared enough about the Blinded one. She tried to warn him of the danger and he completely disregarded her. Yes, he was distressed and made a rash and reckless choice our of rage and grief & yes she should have been a bit more upfront as said “Hey if you let him live he's probably gonna get his fam to come to kill y'all.” In the end, Athena couldn't be bothered to watch Odd “Sever your own head” and left him to deal with the consequences of his “Mercy” alone.

My recommendation for the Ocean Saga is Ximena Natzel for Storm, Crashite for Luck Runs Out, Gigi for Keep Your Friends Close, and Gigi for Ruthlessness (you are probably going to get people also recommending AnniFlamma’s for Ruthlessness too but I said Gigi for the visual consistency from the previous animatic).

Remember though, they live in ANCIENT GREECE. Where war and bloodshed can be unavoidable, especially with your foe. Remember in Just A Man, Zeus already reminds him that sparing the heir of the enemy can lead to bloodshed against his own home island. How much more if you offend a monstrous being and spare them at swordpoint?

His actions affect her standing as a goddess because he is her champion. He represents her. He willingly agreed to be her champion. She is heartless because she needs to be. As a god you can't get attached to mortals, they die. Many gods make mistakes of loving a human *COUGH* zeus *COUGH* and they end up dying so easily. Time works differently for them and how the world works for them.

I do understand why Athena is upset (esp having seen all the sagas), but she said ALL the wrong things here and also didn't bother to share ~certain vital knowledge~ she almost certainly has about the cyclops. That aside, I get a bit confused/annoyed... b/c yeah, the cyclops is blind, but Ody already lost SEVERAL friends trying to kill him. Why does she expect him to try again?? I would also argue that his friends didn't die in the cave b/c he's gone soft, UNLESS she's saying they should've sailed around until they found a populated island to raid like Eury wanted. Ody tried to outwit the cyclops instead of instantly fighting, sure, but since the cyclops only collapsed BECAUSE of that gambit, I would think trying to instantly attack would've resulted in an even worse outcome? Going back with some of the waiting crew would probably lead to a fight with even more of the inhabitants of the island and more death (though to be fair, that might actually work depending on how many other cyclops get in the way). Ody makes questionable as heck decisions, but I honestly don't think running was one of them! Yelling out his name and address tho...uhh...yeah. Not great. 😭

@@SantosoWijaya That's fair, tbh. It just seems super unreasonable to expect Odysseus to go back in and try to kill Polyphemus after losing men while attempting that exact feat...but Athena IS a goddess, so I suppose she's not under any obligation to have reasonable expectations, lol.

3:58 One thing about this musical is that mortal characters like Odysseus can only have accompanying vocals that are diegetic, this the people singing must actually be there. The gods meanwhile can just conjure up a chorus, this is one of the ways the creator decided to make the separation. I also can't help but smirk a bit seeing you cheer Odysseus on as he strains his relationship with the literal goddess of wisdom.
