What camshaft seal is leaking oul, when it's replaced, can I grease or sealant to secure the seal from leaking? What if it leaks again? What kind if lubercant can I use that doesn't engine oil when it mixes into each other?

If newly installed seal is leaking then probably the "tiny spring like" ring popped out off the internal lip of the seal.

@robertdeptula2003 Thanks, I finally got the hang of putting the seal on. Lubed it up with red bearing grease, Mainly the inner side of the seal, but I think I did get some grease on the outer side of the seal too. I used a clean rag and turned the seal to make sure the lip didn't roll. Hopefully it wiped the outer seal clean of grease while I turned it. Lip didn't roll. When I pressed in the seal, it went in a little more than flushed, is that okay? I hope that isn't a problem. I tried making sure it was flush, but tool wasn't tight, so I went in a little more. Now seal is in a little more than flush. I'm thinking about also doing the crank seal as well, can I use bearing grease with that one too? Can I also put a light grease coating on the inner harmonic balancer so it doesn't go in so tight and dry? Making the harmonic balancer a little easier to pull out if I need to again?

I only use engine oil to lubricate engine seals. And there are two schools: lubricate all vs never lubricate the outer ring. Depending on how much surface the seal has to grab into pushing it a bit into should not cause a problem. Good luck!

NEVER lubricate the outer rim of the seal or the seat. Seals should go in dry & clean & free of any grease or oil. Likelihood of seal pop-out if you do

@@jonathanRRH I use grease on seals that use a spring to retain seal pressure, the grease holds the spring in while I insert whatever part I’m inserting. I use gear oil for the rest of what I’m driving in unless directions say other wise.
