In terms of house rent, Port Harcourt isn't relatively cheap, but is considerably more affordable than Lagos. I say this as one who has gone house hunting in Port Harcourt and Lagos between 2021 and 2023. A decent self contain in an average neighborhood on Lagos mainland averages 300-500k per annum. In Port Harcourt, it's between 150-300k per annum. A very significant difference. With regards to transportation, you're absolutely right, Port Harcourt is significantly cheaper than Lagos. In general, cost of living is quite lower in Port Harcourt than in Lagos, though in terms of average wage, Lagos is significantly better than Port Harcourt and it's comparatively easier to land a job and to switch jobs in Lagos than in Port Harcourt.

You just got a subscriber. You said my mind about this great city - Port Harcourt. After Abuja, this is my next big favourite Nigerian city. And yes, I also prefer it to lagos for the exact same reasons you that you stated. This city has improved a lot in the last few years. The situation with electricity in Port Harcourt is also spot on. The electricity is generally very good for most parts of the urban area and to me this might just be second only to Abuja (national capital) for a large major nigerian city. I think the outgoing government invested really well in improving the quality of urban life. I like the Port Harcourt pleasure park a lot and I think it may likely be the best public recreational park in West Africa. I also noticed that Port Harcourt weather is generally cooler than most cities down south (anyone can confirm this on weather forecast and compare with southern city of choice). I guess the next government now needs to invest on infrastructure in greater Port Harcourt and bridge a lot of places into the city's core such as Okirika, Onne, Emohua and Degema as each of these LGAs has boundary with PHALGA or OBALGA. Moreover, Port Harcourt has been expanding quite rapidly. Next thing eill be to come up with a proper public transport system and possible have a rail link between the city centre and the international airport. This will make the city more attractive for new international investments and promote tourism.

I recently moved to lagos because of work. This is my first time in lagos, I've been here for like a month now... and to be honest, I just can't wait to go back to ph. Lagos is rowdy, bad water, odour everywhere even inside the bank, traffic, power supply is really really poor, it's like moving from grace to grass. there's no reason for life to be this hard. They said lagos island is better but my place at Ada George Road in ph is much more liveable than this Ajah that I am in currently. I can't trade good water, clean road, fresh air, and reasonable power supply for over crowded infrastructure.
