The final survey for the exploration of petroleum products in Dailekh has reported 80% progress. This survey, based in Bhirkhet, is considered crucial for the exploration project.
Location and Land Acquisition: The survey is being conducted in Bhirkhet of Bhairabhi Rural Municipality-1. For this purpose, 45 ropanis of land have been acquired, and compensation (Rs 175,000 per ropani) has been provided to the owners of the land. Twenty-seven families have already received compensation.
Significance of the Survey: The final survey is important for determining the volume of raw petroleum products and gas in the Dailekh region. The studies conducted so far suggest that Dailekh could potentially be a major source of petroleum and gas.
Drilling Operation: The final drilling, which will go underground up to four kilometers, is deemed vital in determining the available volume of petroleum products. This drilling is assisted by a large machine imported from China, according to Dinesh Kumar Napit, the project chief for the Department of Mines and Geology.
Timeline and Cost: The exploration project has been underway since September-October 2019 and is a joint effort between the Nepal Government, the Department of Mines and Geology, and the China-based Geological Survey. The entire project is estimated to cost Rs 2.40 billion.
This information suggests that Dailekh has the potential to become a significant source of petroleum and gas, and the ongoing exploration efforts are progressing well.
