Oil paintings not in a book - Its a feeling - Bob Ross Frozen Beauty

Oil paintings not in a book but on a canvas - yes it's a feeling, a touch. And sometimes an experiment! Today's tutorial is another Bob Ross classic - Frozen Beauty in Vignette. I've read a ton of 'How to' books on art but in the end oil paintings not in a book. The sooner you develop your own gut feelings about your art the quicker you'll progress. It takes practice and a few happy accidents - BUT there's no shortcut. Practical experience is what you need because oil paintings are not in a book.
Just remember, time spent painting (or drawing) will help you grow as an artist!
I've used Bob Ross oil paints and brushes for my tutorial. But please feel free to use whatever you have to hand.

Your unique, personal and emotional approach to Bob’s paintings (and your own!) invariably creates a final piece that’s far greater than the sum of its parts. This one in particular has your whimsical ‘stamp’ on it and your passion for painting is clearly visible. It’s a win for us viewers - especially for us who have watched Bob Ross since we were kids. You seem to continue to ‘make it your own’ as he always wished for his following painters. As an artist I know that art always comes from feeling, and I can see that in your work, always. Cheers, and thank you Paul 🙏🏻

Thank you Kenneth for your kind comments. Art has always been a passion of mine. Even as a little kid I was always drawing and painting. So I wonder- 'am I a serious painter? You decide! Another dip into the world of painting hopefully for this Sunday 😃😎

Hi Paul! I’m loving how a cool-color painting has warmth! Your extra touches on the cabin make such a difference- the warm colors and light inside, and the chimney with smoke are so inviting. I really like the vignette feature that seems to pull everything together in a cozy way. Just beautiful!! Taking note of all your top tips! I’m a victim of surprise colors when I haven’t mixed the paint enough… I also blended it out. Love the flexibility of oils! Thank you for teaching us so many ways to paint, especially by listening to our instincts about how things work together. 🌲❄️🤗😊✨

Hi Stephanie - I can't remember when I started trusting my inner artist. It sort of creeps in slowly. But its great when you can stand back and weigh up a painting and spot a issue. Thank goodness for oils. The most friendly medium for beginners IMO. Have a great week and I'll be working away on another painting for this Sunday. 😍😎

@@PaulRansonArt have fun painting this week!😃 I am starting one to gift my father for Christmas. It’s a new endeavor for me- my first painting to give as a gift. I am wondering, would you ever consider making a tutorial on how to prep and finish a painting for hanging, gifting, selling.. I have no idea! 🤷‍♀️ do we spray a varnish? How to frame, if it’s necessary? It could be a great video extra for upcoming holiday gifting projects.. if you have time, of course. I know we would all love it! 😍 ✨💞🖌️🎨✨

Pretty picture. Inspiring for the mouth and pleasing to the eyes. Today's tutorial really helped me relax. I got sick yesterday and I'm having trouble sleeping. I'm better now. I really enjoy your videos. They are always relaxing and educational. Thank you for your hard work and for the beautiful videos. I look forward to the next video and wish you a peaceful week and happy painting. Ps: The little house in the picture is really warm. It gives a feeling of safety.

Hi Alisha - try making a small drawing of the cabin the same size as you want for your painting. Use the palette knife to set the size so you don't have awkward paint applications later 😉 Then to the position test. By having it drawn out you can compaire the painting to your drawing as you go. If you have an angle thats off you can catch it early and fix it. Now go have some fun 😃 Paul

Thank you Bill - I've been trying out different mic's and audio settings. As you can guess I'm a total novice with these things! My challenge is I'm rather softly spoken. And, just upping the volume causes awful distortion. Hopefully I'll make further improvements as my knowledge improves 😎😎

Yes, you and me too. I do have a few favoirites that over time have made more sense. I think sometimes my skills fall below the level of the author. Then when ( or if ) I improve the books are more useful. But sometimes I just like to hold an amazing book and look at the work of the artists - happy painting - 'The Book Worm' - Paul 😃😎

Once again a wonderful and fun video. Thank you so much. I was listening to the video without any earbuds on while my wife was sitting near by. Yes I know how that feels. I've hit many brick walls on my art journey. Luckily I didn't turn to drink but I did learn to forgive myself and to comeback to it another day. Maybe start your art from a different point of view. I love sketching. I have s small pad and a pencil and doodle and draw when I have a free moment. It helps me relax and it dosn't matter what it looks like. Its just a piece of paper. Hope you get back to your art soon and try oils. Just a couple of colors for a tonal scene is a good starting point😃😎
