OIL PAINTING TIME-LAPSE | Realistic Horse
Oil painting isn't something that comes natural to me. I loved to create my whole life, but had to learn to become a full time student, embracing the learning process, in order to progress to where I wanted to be as an artist. In this video I talk about my story and how that led me to what I'm doing in my painting process now and where I'm hoping to take that.

I've been painting seriously for about a year now, and most of my inspiration comes from your work, Chuck. I started a KZread channel four months ago, and always looked to your videos for tips for painting but also editing and inspiration. Great job as always, and I agree. Painting takes a lifetime to achieve greatness in, and I can't wait for the journey. Thanks for the inspiration!

Have a look at the 4 books by E. JOHN Robinson....each book is different and he explains everything he learned in the 40 years that he studied the sea and painted it. You'll learn a lot...also try oils there's no need to use solvents that are toxic. Gamblin has 2 products solvent free gel and solvent free liquid that can be used in the underpainting to thin paint. Both also are toxic free alkyd that speed drying time.

I'm not an artist, so I have no idea what you were talking about half the time, but man, I sure do enjoy watching you paint. God bless.

Through the years i have come to depend on underpainting as a huge foundation to the next stage of painting. I was challenged a while back to do a verdaccio underpaintng, and do all the work there, (i.e: detail, contrast, and composition) and then just glaze over that. It was an illuminating moment! Arguably it works better in oils than acrylic, but it is just one of many ways to achieve your goal to that perfect painting! Thanks for sharing! I could see how this was beneficial to your work!
I don't think an artist is ever satisfied always learning. This painting is spectacular. You have a great sense of color. I love to watch you paint. We all learn. Thank you

Thank you Arlene! My pleasure to share
First thank you. I have absorbed and learned from your techniques. I've retired and for 2 1/2yrs I've been learning to paint I have just started learning the process of Grisaille and have watched multiple videos from multiple artists and really appreciate you on your techniques and your explanation on those techniques. You truly have a passion and it shows in your work
What an absolute amazing painting connected with the heart warming and inspirational story. Thank you so much for sharing. I am 62 yrs young and have recently started oil painting using the acrylic blocking in/ under painting technique. Inspires me even at my ripe age.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
You add joy to the world Chuck. Thank you for sharing your gift. I mean it.
Amazing work! I started watching you about 5 years ago. Your growth in painting is evident in what you are producing now. Thank you for taking us along with you on this journey
MAGNIFICENT!!! My mother wants me to paint some horses-you are the go to guy! And your landscapes- oh the details- a painter after my own heart!

Just gorgeous! So soft, so real looking! ❤️👍🏻❤️
This painting is wonderful, but your comments about your development as an artist and the enthusiasm you have for the creative process is inspirational.
Beautiful as always Chuck! thank you so much for sharing this and your story, you're always an inspiration.
You have convinced me to move on and try oils again. You inspire me so much as horses always have been my main subject.
I love your works, they inspire me, congratulations, a greeting from Colombia
Omg I love horses, owned my beautiful boy for 19 years, sadly lost him in August. My hear will never heal from my loss. This painting made me cry, but in a good way xx

Natasha I know how you feel😢 I will forever miss my beloved horses❤️
I’m certainly no artist. In my mind what you’re doing just keeps not making sense. Then you blink and there’s another masterpiece. Man you’re really deeply talented. Extremely impressive. What an absolutely beautiful painting.
You're my favorite painter. From subject matter to style to color. I love the contribution to nature art!

Love your work! There's a definite improvement all the time
You are such an inspiration chuck . Cant thank u enough .
I LOVE THIS PAINTING!!! I would LOVE to have this hanging up on my wall!
Thank you for this video and your process. I really enjoy listening to how you are evolving as an artist. Your work is just wonderful!
Fantastic, Chuck!!! It's been very evident, over the years I've been watching you paint, there is more and more of YOU that goes into each new work. For an artist, a new technique discovery is also a new self discovery, in a constantly developing thought process. One thing I used to do a lot was to "create" a creature that didn't exist, (mostly birds), and create my own colour scheme for them. That can push the thought processes a bit😅...and also drive you a bit 🤪...😂😂 Beautiful painting!!! The smallest details are phenomenal!!! Thanks!!!
Beautiful work Chuck thanks for sharing what a inspiration!👍👌
Absolutely beautiful! I love watching you paint. I paint mostly with acrylics, but I still find something interesting to learn in each of your videos even when you are using oils. Very cool.
Awesome realistic horse oil painting! Love it!❤
Absolutely beautiful work.
Beautiful Horse Painting
Beautiful! I'm always learning from you. Thank you.
Lovely work Chuck, as a super realistic oil painter, I really appreciate your work. You have that old school way that I just love. Keep up the awesome work sir! Oh, and I'm crazy about horses, and once upon a time I owned a beautiful Arab stallion... I miss him so... God bless! 🎨
What a treat to watch this video....mesmerised by your work
Watching this gives me such inspiration!
fortunately I can see ur horse painting, so elegant
gracias por compartir tus pinturas, aprendo mucho..eres un maestro.
Amazing job! Looks so real! 🔥🔥🔥
Just happened upon this video. Thank you very much as I have had a mental block since covid has dominated what we do, I am more encouraged to start again with art. Your summary of coming to terms with moving on and trying different approaches helps more then you can imagine, thank you again.
I can relate to everything you said, as an artist the learning with new techniques never ends
Absolutely stunning! And inspiring!
Perfect... I'm always inspired by your amazing talent... Thanks for sharing.. I like all your realistic painting..
There’s only one word to describe this - fantastic
I have always just painted as a hobby and recently people have begun to ask for commission work. I did one piece as a gift to a ranching family and suddenly I have multiple others wanting paintings as well! It's really exciting, but also quite nervewracking because I don't know what I'm doing half the time and I've never thought myself to be a "professional" artist. That's why I enjoy watching your videos so much, they give me ideas for other techniques to try when I can't seem to figure it out for myself!
Marvelous!! Congratulations
Am an amateur artist and I've really learn a lot from you and sometimes even copy you 😁 thank you for shearing your work and inspiring not only me but many people who are in the process of becoming a better painter.
Your paintings are beautiful!
I started watching ur videos from past few months becoz of lock down, the way u explain inspired me a lot n ur work is outstanding. Thank u so much for sharing it’s really appreciated from Singapore.
Gorgeous!
Congrats on your journey!
Another beautiful painting and that it's a horse, pleases me even more, as I love these animals. The horse's face expression is really awesome. Just one hint to improve: The hind legs, between knees and ankles, seem to narrow and too thin. A horse has massive muscles in its legs and they form kind of a triangle when well-trained.

That's how my reference was, and I wondered about that. I don't think these horses get riden a lot anymore which maybe has something to do with that. Thanks so much!

I have worked more then 50 years from the backs of many different breeds of horses. All four paintings Chuck has captured each of the individual horses. I see older horses that are enjoying their retirement years. The buckskin (painting #4) is a very old horse, you see his age in his face and withers. The pony looks like he was a child’s favorite mount, well loved and bomb proof for any grandchildren that might want a ride. And the sorrel horse, I wouldn’t want to ride him, he looks rough, short neck, narrow shoulders, no withers. A life lived is what I see looking at a Chuck Black horse portrait! Thank You for your outstanding work
Amazing as always, it's so full of life. 😍👏
I hope one day I will be able to understand shading, perspective, proportions and texture as well as you understand them. I'm am only a beginner and practicing pencil right now (rocks and other still life to be specific :D), but eventually I want to start creating characters cuz mind calls for art but hands cannot create it yet. Thank you for the inspiration 😊
wow-he looks fantastic-love horses💖💖💖
I'm at loss for words... beautiful.. 👍
Awesome as always
beautiful. so much detail
I wasn’t anticipating the knife work, excellent job!
Que hermoso! That beautiful!
Wow... stunning... will you show the other horse paintings please?
I love your stuff man
Wow outstanding work. I always watch your videos and all your painting videos are amazing.
Beautifully done ,thanks for share
Precioso!!!!!😍
Just wow!
Beautiful painting
Your experience sounds like the exact opposite of mine. I was an oil painter first, and I can't get the hang of acrylics. I've found Golden Opens to be a good compromise because you have so much control over the drying process. I found your channel early on and it has been a pleasure to see how you have evolved and what we can learn from your experience.

I'm the same! Acrylics frustrated me, could never get the hang of them...then I found oils and it was like a godsend for me.
I sure do enjoy watching you paint your pictures as they are so life like. I enjoy each one I see as you progress with your ability and knowledge. I think back to how I used to watch PBS with Bill Alexander and his mighty brush and how well he did but his style of painting does not compare with yours. Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more fantastic paintings with your name on them. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Cindy A Jenkins
I love this so much
Amazing. Thank you so much nice tutorial
So beautiful artwork 👍
So cool, Chuck!😱 I use acrylics, but I still enjoy trying to make my paintings as detailed as yours!
OMG 😮 🤭 It’s really great painting👍👍 you said very well! You tutorial is very helpful for learners ❤️ I do Watercolor painting but I enjoyed you video very much !

Awesome, keep the good work!
I come to your channel to learn a technique.......I go back with the knowledge on how I can Explore my own self nd not copying what you do.....Thank You Chuck for the voice over to let me Grow..
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing, Chuck! Eleo (Norway)
God bless you sir, everything about this content was peaceful and not forgetting, knowledgeable.♥️💢
Amazing talent bro🙏🙏🙏
Incredible
This is how I feel about acrylics... I love watching you paint, but I do wet paint (I asked myself, isn't this like oil) I guess I just like it to dry faster when I'm done with the area... It's Beautiful Chuck. Thanks for sharing...
Literally i am loving this it was so satisfying
I paint mostly oils l like the feeling of how it flows so easily on the canvas, with acrylics it a different feeling and always canvas has to be gessoed so that the acrylic adheres , not completely in love with acrylics but it’s still satisfying. You are a great artist.
Amazing!
This was an exceptional video. The information conveyed is very useful and applicable to improving my painting and the painting itself is outstanding. Great stuff

Check as I told you through messenger but I have not heard back from you I think you are probably the best instructor I’ve seen on TV KZread. Or anywhere for that matter. I would really like to get in the drawing for one of your paintings or prints. Not the puzzles but something you’ve done because I will treasure that I thank you very much. Pat Calton
Outstanding
This is awesome, good job, nice to see your video n nice to meet u👍👍👍
Interesting, I didn't get into painting as much as I wanted because acrylic frustrated me. I found oil at some point and realized how much better it suits me. Oil painting has taught me so much, it's starting to get easier to use the knowledge for other mediums. I also watercolor, which also used to frustrate me but not anymore. Growth can be surprising.
You are really creative
An amazing equine portrait , as good as and I think even better than George Stubbs the renowned British equine artist. It’s a stunning piece of art and I loved the process of creating it.
