Friend noticed oil leaks on his driveway and assumed it was the drain plug because it was dripping oil from it.
Cleaned off the oil with degreaser, washed it off with a pressure washer.
Turned on the car and within 5 minutes the oil leak started and it was coming from the VTEC solenoid valve assembly gasket.
I replaced the gasket and oil leak was gone.

Keep in mind that there is another o-ring in this general area that commonly leaks: the ‘Figure 8’ o-ring between the oil pump and engine block. This o-ring is significantly harder to replace than the VTEC solenoid o-ring (it requires removal of the crank pulley, oil pan, and timing belt). Replacement of this o-ring also requires replacement of the VTEC solenoid o-ring since the VTEC solenoid/oil filter holder must be removed to get the oil pump off. So before replacing ONLY the VTEC solenoid o-ring, confirm that this (or one or both of the o-rings on the VTEC solenoid/oil filter holder itself) is indeed the ONLY source of your leak. Otherwise, you will be replacing the VTEC solenoid o-ring twice.

May be this is too late a question, but ..., What is the symptom of the 'Figure 8’ o-ring related leaking? It seems my Ody has one. There is leakage down the VTEC solenoid area, but seems there is no leakage immediately behind the solenoid.

If your VTEC solenoid gasket is bad, consider getting the Altrom gasket from Napa rather than going to Honda. It’s about $13 cheaper. It’s made in Japan. And it comes in a bag that is labeled ‘Keihin’. When you do this job, you will probably notice that Keihin also manufactures the oil filter/VTEC solenoid holder that this gasket seals. Keihin is, in fact, a MAJOR supplier for Honda. It would appear that the Napa Altrom gasket is indeed an OEM Honda part, but for little more than half the price.

Keep in mind a lot of times the seal behind the oil pump usually leaks as well... that means removing the oil pan and timing belt before removing the pickup and oil pump. Just saying...

Very well done video in my opinion. No BS just show how to do the job. Usually theirs a lot of narcissism going on in DIY videos. Not here
