Oil Leak After Oil Change

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A friends mom had an oil leak after an oil change. I told her to take it back to them so they could see if it was something simple they did. I'd want a chance to catch a human error so I could make it right - give them the same chance. She went back and they said it was NOT the filter or drain plug from them. It was. Here's what we found.

Well, looks like Brian now has a very nice new customer to service. No more Kwik lube for her, and a whole new level of service competence as well. Going to double the life of that vehicle for sure. Plus Brian likely has those clips in stock, I know I bought a pack of assorted ones, because it was cheaper than buying them from GM, and between me and friends we have made a steady inroad on the assorted different styles already, just replacing the ones missing form vehicles.

I just found your channel after having to replace the mode door actuator on a Silverado, and couldn't have finished the install if it wasn't for your video. I can't say I have had the shop issue, but the used truck that I bought had been "fixed" by the previous owner or their mechanic several times - including but not limited to the mode door actuator not being bolted down so the motor mechanism would rotate instead of the puck rotating, the bed door-handle being zip-tied to the latch rods, an aftermarket head-unit was installed but wired directly to the battery (which kept dying,) and my favorite - evap vent valve was replaced with the wrong unit which included an extension + filter. So they zip-tied the wrong unit in place. Subsequently two professional mechanics missed that last one, and just replace my evap purge valve instead.

Brian, thanks for the great vids. I was watching the older vid about flushing the heater core. Trying to get heat for the winter if the car runs. My regular mechanic just quit his garage job and opened a restaurant so now I have to learn to change oil at home. So recently my '93 Accord was over heating, temp gauge shot up to hot level, it has 250k miles and the last water pump was done about 5 years ago, yes by the fav mechanic. I got the new water pump, timing belts and accessory belts changed, a new thermostat, coolant flushed and refilled, new oil/filter changed as well. But the car's still over heating, the upper radiator hose gets hot but the lower radiator hose does not get hot, just warm, temp gauge seemed to be stuck at about 1/4 way from cold. The 2 fans did not run when the car was running and the upper radiator hose was getting hot. There is heat in the cabin when turning on the heat. The fans spin high when turning on the AC. I am not sure why the coolant is not circulating? Is there anything other valve in the cooling system that might be stuck/blocking the flow? Please help. Thanks

  • @hellboy3783

sounds like the radiator is clogged. The only valve is the thermostat, that is usually on the engine block before the main upper hose. If it gets warm, then it opens.

Well, you check a filter before install, that kind of defect is visible, as you really need to put a thin film of oil on the seal first, so as to make it slide and not grab. The wonky seal would be very easy to see visibly.

Obviously you're intelligent enough to find an oil leak but not put a plug in the dripping oil from the orifice where the oil filter went? I think it would be to your advantage to do things work smart and take care of the obvious! Also next when you have faulty workmanship and products being sold to you and they're blaming the problem on your engine or something else when in fact they did not only check their work but they licensing agency usually in the capital of the state capital of that state you need to report to this to them directly so they can investigate it and hold on to the oil filter, and show that to them along with the invoice cuz if this is happening to you chances are it's happened the other people and nobody's reported it? You need to go on Google Maps and write up a review with a photo of the filter or ring and the invoice and explain to the Google Maps audience would occurred and the fact that they lost all the fasteners for the plastic covers underneath the vehicle you should contact also the District Attorney's office so that that can be reimbursed or they should go out and purchase and replace those Fasteners since a lot of this shoddy workmanship was done by that employee employed by that shop! You should mention it to the owner of the shop! If they don't resolve it? Go to the licensing agency for these automotive shops which is usually displayed in a public area and they're waiting area,

Hi Peter. Thanks for sharing your wisdom with myself & the group. The cap idea is one I share in many of my videos. I didn't do it here because I had an elevated catch basin aligned to catch the drips. Plus filming and explaining were more important at the time. The filter was drained, bagged in a ziplock with a rag. My understanding is she intended to share her findings with the shop owner. This event caused failure to her lower engine bay cover she may or may not pursue replacement. That's up to her and the shop. It's not clear who lost the fasteners. This car bears an extended warranty that covers free oil changes. No one has mentioned to her the absence of the fasteners. Most lube shops are happy they don't have to deal with them so they let that sleeping dragon lie.
