Ohio State Patrol Chases Ford Escape thru 4 Counties

January 5, 2021 troopers attempted to stop a stolen Ford Escape driven by Cortez Larkin of Columbus, OH for speeding. The pursuit began near Bowling Green, OH and ended near Cridersville, OH after the driver of the Escape rammed a patrol car attempting a rolling roadblock. It was subsequently discovered that Larkin had multiple felony warrants for his arrest.

I gotta say as a retired officer from Ohio now living in Georgia. OSP has always been so polite during their pursuits. They just chase em. In the south, I have learned troopers in Ga, Fl, the Carolinas and even Arkansas will pit cars quick and efficiently to end pursuits no matter the speeds. They don’t play with these people.

  • @TS-ef2gv

"...pit cars quick and efficiently to end pursuits no matter the speeds." One would hope someone claiming to be a "retired officer" (of what?) would be a little better educated on this subject. Here's some PIT 101 - "At speeds below 35 MPH, the Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) may be used if the use of less than lethal force is justified. At speeds greater than 35 MPH, the technique is considered potentially lethal and therefore would normally be used only if lethal force is justified against all suspect vehicle occupants. The PIT is best used when the fleeing vehicle is cornering on a surface street... The use of the PIT on a fleeing vehicle at speeds in excess of 35 MPH may result in the death of innocent passengers, other motorists, and/or bystanders. In instances where there are or may be innocent passengers in the suspect vehicle, there is inherent difficulty in justifying the use of the PIT maneuver..." Research some of the many examples of inappropriate and/or improper PIT'ing and the resulting civil and even criminal liability, then listen again to the radio traffic on this video. The supervisor did ok a PIT once it met legally justifiable and authorized parameters. A big clue as to what those parameters are for that agency in this situation is contained in the radio traffic.

Your family must be very proud of your intelligence! So I’ll lead you by the nose since you’re to ignorant to have and level of common sense. Since we’re watching a POLICE pursuit, retired officer would mean....... law enforcement officer! And I’m not sure why you would send written documentation from where I’m not sure nor do I care! But if you’re point is and I’m totally guessing here. Is to show pitting at various speeds and the dangers involved. I would invite you to expand your knowledge, but maybe not since you know so much, to pull up videos from Arkansas State Police and Florida Highway Patrol, maybe even George State Patrol and others to view first hand that yes high speed pitting can and does occur. Also, for the record, I’ve been friends and still have a couple retired buddies from OSP. I know OSPs theory on things.

OSP will go out their way to avoid using force if they believe they can de-escalate the encounter verbally. There are hundreds of city cops and deputies in Ohio that apply to OSP and get rejected each year. They are known throughout the nation for being among the elite of state police forces. That is not to say they are perfect and don’t occasionally get a bad apple or two... but they do behave professionally 99% of the time.

I hope there are some black people watching this. Not all whites or white cops want to harass or hurt or kill black people. This officer is doing a great job, simply first rate.

@@bindlepig8064 - There was a chase though and when it's over the cops need to all be on the same page. Hands up and unlock the door are to extreme opposites. Hands up cop could see that as going for a weapon. Sounds like you think I hate cops and like criminals. Wrong...reread my original comment until it sinks in through your thick skull. Numerous cops all yelling contradictory commands. People have been shot and killed for this exact reason. One of the cops will set off the rest of the cops when his individual order gets disobeyed by the suspect if they follow the orders of another cop. That's all I'm saying you damned imbecile.
