Pat Boone's whitewashed covers of black music were stupidly laughable. If you watch the film of Boone performing Tutti Frutti you can tell by the look on his face that he's struggling to contain laughter. Even he thought it was ridiculous, but that's what the record execs wanted and he wasn't going to turn down a steady paycheck.
Fats just passed a few years ago, still performed up till the end. He's my all-time favorite performer of that era. Loved listening to those old 45's.
When reporters in '56-'57 would tell Elvis he was being called "the king of rock and roll", Elvis would say "To me the king of rock and roll is Fats Domino."

In case you're wondering why so many people are mentioning Happy Days... Happy Days was a TV show that aired in the 1970s that took place in the 50s. You might be familiar with the character of "Fonzie" (aka "The Fonz") that was one of the characters on that show. Anyway, the character of "Richie" would very often break out into the opening lyric of Blueberry Hill ("I found my thrill...). It was his thing😊

“Ain’t that a shame” by Fats is a must. Great cover by Cheap Trick also.
Fats was one of the definite pioneers of rock and roll, along with many others around 1955, more or less when it all started. Many a legend started off around that time introducing a whole new era!
Fats was one of the GOATs This song still stands the test of time…and is just as great for a dance with your best gal now as it was back in the day.
This was originally written for a Western Movie in 1940 called "The Singing Hill" And sung by Gene Autry. It gained a lot of popularity and they decided to release it commercially. At least 6 different artists released in the 40's. Fats was looking for a filler on an album and picked this song. The producer fought Fats on this, as it had been done so many times already. Lucky for us Fats won out. With the piano triplets and his sly Cajun accent it was a massive hit for Fats. 🎹🎹🎹 Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦

Oh for your New Orleans day, you need to do his Walkin' To New Orleans. He's such a great artist and has a lot of great songs! In an interview, a reporter called Elvis the King of Rock and Roll, and Elvis came back, no that's Fats Domino! For New Orleans Orleans movie night, Elvis's 4th movie, King Creole, was filmed in 1958 in New Orleans. A 23 yr old Elvis! It's really, a very good movie! Lots of great music too. Elvis made 31 movies and this was his favorite.
My grandpa loves Fats Domino, so it was always playing when I went to my grandparents house. Brings back great memories.
My late father & his best friend, my Uncle Bill (RIP) got to see Fats Domino & Little Richard at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, PA (home of Tina Fey & Todd Rundgren). They were teenagers growing up in Philly, and they both got to see all the early greats of Rock n' Roll & Doo Wop. Lucky guys 🍀. Nice review as always!

He came out with an album, and sent proceeds, to renovate the 9th ward, where his home was. New Orleans is Fats, and Vice a Versa. There's a video, of him doing "When The Saints Go Marching In". He was, an absolute institution.
In 1970 my parents bought a record player. They wanted to teach their 2 girls how to dance. Dad taught me and my sister to waltz to “blue berry hill” ended up being father and bride dance for me twice. Never stopped jiving either. Best memories of my dear Daddy and my sister feels the same. Thanks you both for exploring thru all the decades of music. 62 and still rock’n❤
First saw Fats Domino when I was about 10 years old on American Bandstand. Something about his style and the type of music he played captured me instantly. I love his music and have followed him all my life. I was very saddened when he passed away not too long ago. Thanks for remembering him and playing his music.
Hi guys, thank you for choosing this song. I requested it some time ago because it reminds me of my dad and that dreamy look he would get on his face when he listened to it. 😊 I always thought he was thinking of my mom who died when I was only 12. He loved her until he died.
This is the man that during a huge press conference Elvis said was the real king of rock n roll. Love Fats Domino.
Oh yes, now you picked the man. His sound his voice his piano playing his humor and his song writing. The bridge to all musics goes through Fats Domino, Awesome reation!

don't forget his piano intro in "The Fat Man"
Chuck Berry is another iconic artist. "Maybellene" is one of biggest hits. John Lee Hooker is a fantastic blues musician. "Boom, Boom" is probably his best known song.
Elvis said Fats Domino a "huge influence on me when I started out" and said Fats was "the real king of rock 'n' roll". The Beatles were also heavily influenced by Fats Domino, so think of the music this guy influenced. I was born and raised in New Orleans, and he's SO beloved here. Of course, my favorite is "Walking to New Olreans"
For New Orleans artists, don't forget the ladies! Irma Thomas ("Ruler of My Heart" and "It's Raining"), and Marcia Ball (a pianist inspired by Fats Domino and Professor Longhair) are great soulful singers from Nola. And back to the guys, Professor Longhair is a true New Orleans original, whose song "Tipitina" is the anthem of Mardi Gras! Another iconic Louisiana band is Beausoleil, who helped popularize Cajun music to the rest of America. I love their songs " " and the Cajun standard "Jolie Blon (Pretty Blonde)", Fats' Domino's "It's You I Love" and so many more.

I loved listening to Fats Domino when I was a kid. He was one of a kind! Alter Bridge Live from Wembley - "Blackbird" Dave Matthews Band - Crush - LIVE - 9.13.2019 - AK-Chin Pavilion, Phoenix, AZ
Fats Domino’s is one of the founders of Rock and Roll (like Big Mama Thornton, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, and more)! He had a sound that appealed to many which made it possible to crossover into mainstream music easier than other black artists of the day! My parents loved this music and so do I! His piano playing was brilliant!❤❤
My Momma was a teenager during the late 50s and early 60s, plus she was from Louisiana so she loved Fats Domino. I grew up listening to his music and love it as much as my Momma did. Have y'all reacted to his song, "I'm Walkin' "? If not, that's the one I'd recommend for you next. My childhood favorite was "The Rooster Song." It makes me smile every time I hear it!
Fats Domino worked in a bed spring factory during the day when he was first starting out in his music career. He had a bad accident with a heavy spring in hat severely injured his hand. Doctors were not sure he would ever be able to play piano again. But thank goodness the doctors were wrong and he was able to bless everyone with so much great music.

Actually my Mom stood behind Fats Domino & Jerry Lee Lewis in Ark honky tonks patting them on their shoulders. 40's-50's, they called her Slim, 5'9"-100 lbs.
Fats is one of the building blocks of rock and roll. My older sisters had a great collection of 45s in the late 1950s and one I played repeatedly (age 2) was the Imperial 45 "I'm Gonna Be A Wheel Someday b/w "I Want To Walk You Home".
He rock and rolled this song as it was a cover from the 40's.. what a classic!! From one of the originals of rock and roll.. wonderful reaction,,
Had a smile that would charm any one. PIANO AND VOICE All his own. Many styles❣️He is loved.
#82 on Rolling Stone magazine's 500 greatest songs list. This is the most famous and highest charting version of this great song. I also love Louis Armstrong's version, which was also a hit for him a number of years before Fats's version. Speaking of Louis Armstrong, you guys should react to his (and His Hot Five's) 1928 recording of "West End Blues." The song sounds great, and it is mostly instrumental with a young Louis also scatting and adding a few lyrics to his amazing trumpet playing. West End Blues has been called the song that helped Armstrong popularize Jazz and invent modern music, which is why he is considered one of the most important people (not just musicians) to ever live. His Jazz innovations set the stage for all the popular music that came afterward. ❤✌
Fats had to be rescued by the US Coast Guard when NOLA got hit by hurricane Katrina. Rumors were rampant that he died in the storm and they tagged his house with "RIP Fats you will be missed." When they dropped him off the helicopter in Baton Rouge he was picked up and taken to his granddaughter's house by her boyfriend, LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell.

Jamarcus went on to be an early draft pick for the raiders and probably had one of the shortest NFL careers in the history of the sport.
An all-time classic; not only is Fats justly in several Halls of Fame but so is his longtime collaborator, the trumpeter Dave Bartholomew. "Walking to New Orleans" would be a next logical pick, although there's something to be said for "The Fat Man", which Wikipedia says is the first rock single to sell 1 million records. (I did not know that!)
If you like this era of music you should do a movie review of "American Graffiti". The movie came out in 1973 and took place in the early 60's.
This record is on every jukebox across Texas. Thanx guys
as a teenager I lived on a blueberry farm which was on top of a hill, I was familiar with this song (I probably heard it on "Happy Days" lol) this song was always in the back of my mind during those years.
Professor Longhair influenced many piano players in New Orleans in the 50's and 60's. One of my faves by him is "Rockin' Pneumonia" it's a great song to react to.
Loved this as a kid. My Dad used to play it a lot and we'd sing along. Nice!
Ernest Evans' nickname was Chubby, and he added the last name "Checker" as an homage to Fats Domino. Also, you should react to New Orleans legend Professor Longhair, another singer-pianist. His song "Go to the Mardi Gras" has been associated with that event for many years.
One of the GOATS. His sound was more rock & roll, soul, blues. I think I’ve heard this song on radio, TV, movies, all of my life, as it is so well known.
Welcome to the pioneer section of Rock And ROLL.. 'I'm Walking' by Fats Domino was the soundtrack of mid '50s teen social life.
Fats Domino, Little Richard, Ray Charles, and Jerry Lee Lewis brought piano out of jazz & ragtime into the arena of rock and roll. Each brought a special, unique genius to their approach and changed the landscape of American music forever.
Please find video of Fats singing at the piano - he's a classic!
You can slide around the dance floor to this one. Fats is so smooth.
I'll still come out of the blue & sing the chorus to this great song. It will say with u forever!!!
For the beginnings of rock & roll, you really need to check out Elvis Presley's early Sun recordings with Scotty Moore on guitar. "Baby, Let's Play House", "Mystery Train" and "Blue Moon of Kentucky" were groundbreaking songs, These are the recordings that made RCA grab Elvis for their label and make him a national star. FYI, Scotty Moore was one of George Harrison's guitar inspirations, and Scotty appeared with Elvis on his '68 comeback special -- another great performance to check out.
Suggestions you want.. Suggestions you get! LOL Fats Domino - Blue Monday Little Richard - Lucille Thanks, Jay & Amber, for getting into the genre of music of the rock & roll 50's. It was my dad's era - he was a 50s teen - and I still have all his old 45 rpm records.
No other reaction channel does songs so diverse. BEST. CHANNEL. EVER.
The man lived long enough to know he was immortalized in rock history. Fats Domino lived to 89 and died in 2017.
Blueberry hill is one of those songs from that era that uses metaphors to sing about something that couldn't be said.
Before Fats Domino there was Fats Waller, famous jazz piano player of the 1920’s thru 1940’s. Check out Ain’t Misbehaving or Sat My Self Down And Wrote Myself A Letter. Fats Waller was in the movie Stormy Weather(1943) which you guys are familiar with because of your reaction video of Cab Callaway and the Nicholas Brothers doing Jumping Jive. He does Ain’t Misbehaving I believe.

And Lena Horne while they're at it. "Stormy Weather" became her signature tune.
Another song in the same "vein" that you should react to is "(You Never Can Tell) C'est La Vie", a.k.a The Wedding Song by Chuck Berry. It was showcased in Pulp Fiction in the iconic dance contest scene between Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman). It's a very similar vibe about a couple who drive to New Orleans to celebrate their anniversary.
Wow, this is just a fantastic classic. I used to live up the street from another Blueberry Hill and I always thought of Fats when I passed it.

Growing up as a kid in the ‘70s I watched a tv show “Happy Days”, it was set in the 50s. The character Richie Cunningham (Ron Howard) would sing it beginning lines -I found my thrills…when something was going his way. The song got played often on the jukebox at the malt shop the teens hung out at. So anytime I hear this song I automatically think Happy Days 😊
Blueberry Hill was Fats Domino's biggest hit! He's my personal favorites 1950s artist. Thanks!
If you want to explore early Rock & Roll, you need to check out "The Killer" aka Jerry Lee Lewis. His piano skills were phenomenal, and his energy was unmatched. "Great Balls of Fire" is a banger of a show-stopper!
When I was 10 yrs old I got the Best of Fats Domino and the Best of Chock Berry LPs for Christmas. Started a life long appreciation for 50's rock and roll.
Everytime I hear this song I am reminded of Richie on Happy days! Ron Howard's character always broke into this song. Fats Domino was a musical force to be reckoned with between 1952 and 1962!
Fats domino was one of the greatest singers that ever lived and his music is just as popular today as it was back then.

Oh, yes we do. It's you (boomers) who don't have a clue about anything except yourselves. I'm GenX and I grew up with this music--Glenn Miller to Howlin Wolf to Jerry Lee, to Fats, Phil and Don, The Four Seasons, The Byrds, The Who, through Zeppelin and everything in between, then onto the Pistols and my era and beyond. But for you, it's all about you. You couldn't care less about anyone else, let alone their music, their lives, etc. It's all about how you could drop acid, quit school, go streaking, turn your back on patriotism, religion, community, marriage, family, neighbourhood, your parents, yadda yadda and still get grandfathered into a government job and afford to buy a house. Yes, you are the "ME" generation. You never had to deal with Islamic Terrorism, mass shootings, environmental collapse, the prospect of never owning a home, and the list goes on. All you know is you had the best of everything and you think you deserved and no one else does.
Great song! Always love any song he sang.
Ricky Nelson is another great singer from the 50s that you should check out! Hello Mary Lou, Travelin Man, and Poor Little Fool are just a few of his hits.
Love love love Fats Domino and all the early rock 'n rollers. Someone who gets overlooked a lot, I think is Louis Jordan. He came out the gate in the 1940s with jump blues, the precursor to rock 'n roll. His personality virtually leaped out of his songs, like Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens, or Choo Choo Ch'boogie, but he also did some smooth crooner style R&B like Is You Is Or Is You Ain't (Ma' Baby) or Don't Let the Sun Catch You Cryin'. I hope these titles have piqued your interest and hope you give Louis Jordan a listen! Oh and I forgot to add: he plays the saxophone!
Blueberry Hill was one of the songs my mom taught us to dance to, the Stroll and the Shag, she'd put on the Fats Domino album and we'd dance all afternoon, my father was not pleased. ... about anything. Thanks for that Happy Memory, You Made Me Smile.
On Happy Days, when Richie (Ron Howard) thought he was about to get lucky with a girl he would sing "I found my thrill..."
Another New Orleans native to revisit is Louis Prima! His sound is a mix of jazz and swing. He had great chemistry with his band. And when you hear the trumpet, that's King Louie himself! Some of his greats are: Buona Sera; Jump, Jive and Wail; I'm Just a Gigolo; Oh Marie..etc. You won't be disappointed!
Fats had a giant role in the beginning of rock and roll...He had a later song called whiskey heaven which is worth a listen...Loved this reaction!!!
I always liked Fats Domino. " Ain't that a shame" "I'm Walking" both great songs that deserve a reaction. Doing a Mardi Gras theme, yeah I can handle that. you will want to keep Fats Domino for that. Also Dr John "Goin' Back To New Orleans" or any song of his. You should also include "The Dirty Dozen Brass Band" (Brass, Saxophone, And Sometimes Drums, and piano.)
Wow, check you guys out now you’re reaching way back…. As a young man in the 60s, they were still playing fats on the radio.❤❤❤❤
I love Fats Domino, his music and all the other 50s artists was my early introduction to music, listening to my parents and older siblings records. Fats is regarded by many as recording the very first Rock & Roll record in 1949, The Fat Man, long before the term "Rock & Roll" was first used.
‘Red Sails in the Sunset’ is another good song he did. His ‘Lazy’ Cajun accent really gives him a distinctive voice.
Brilliant reaction as always guys, this is one of favourite from Fats Domino, you have to listen to "ain't that a shame" and "walking to New Orleans" next.

I listened to Ain't That A Shame last night. When I was a kid in the 60's we had one of those "Hi-Fi" stereos that were popular back then but we didn't have any records. We would borrow 45's from our neighbor and this was one of them.
An early R&B/jazz artist is Louis Jordan. One of his songs called "is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby" was used in a Tom & Jerry cartoon. Another popular song by Jordan is "Caldonia" which has been remade by a lot of other singers. Another song to try is "Why Don't You Do Right?" by Lil Green. A few other acts to listen to are Sam Cooke, Rufus Thomas, Washboard Sam, Frankie Jaxon, Joe Turner (aka Big Joe Turner), James Brown & The Flamous Flames, The Coasters, The Mills Brothers, The Ink Spots, & Little Willie John.

I always think of Richie Cunningham singing it on the 70's TV show Happy Days....🤣
I love dancing to Fats Domino ^_^ "Whole Lotta Loving" and "Be My Guest" are some of my faves from him. ...Also, listen to some more Jackie Wilson ^_^ his song "Reet Petite" is so much fun!
My dad is almost 80... This was is favorite song .. He played it constantly when I was growing up😍
