One detail I think people are missing is the main trooper being called Enoch. In the Judeo-Christian tradition, Enoch walked with God and then was taken by God into Heaven. It is always said he "did not die". Enoch may be one of the few or only Stormtroopers still alive. He also did not have any of the red wrappings around his armor which would also support this.

Actually it is stated that Enoch was translated (transported) away to another place, but he did eventually die. (Gen 5:22-24, Heb 11:5 and 11:13 confirms this). Even the texts that we have from Moses do not state that he didn't die.

I think some of them are still alive and are simply being “strengthened” by Nightsister magic. Kind of like how the Nightbrothers got strengthened by Merrin in Fallen Order.

Enoch is interesting because in biblical references he was the father of Methuselah and "was taken by God", ie he did not die but lived eternally in the service of the Lord. At least that is one interpretation. But certainly I had a chill run down my spine when Thrawn said his name.

It's interesting to note that Enoch having this golden mask thing kind of implies that his helmet was damaged, which means he was shot in the face. His distorted robotic voice supports that theory as well. Kinda dark.

Ezra's reinforcements aiding his final sacrificial act in Rebels help with imagining a Davy Jones-esque original inspiration, does it not?

This would make sense from a production standpoint too. If they're already dead and go up in smoke when they're destroyed, then it's ok for Ahsoka to go HAM on them with her lightsabre without it being too graphic for the kids. The same reason why George Lucas made the Separatist troops Droids. You can only decapitate so many humans before you start getting complaints.

I think all the troopers are full of smoke, mostly so the jedi can chop them up without it being to graphic (much like why George used droids in the prequels)

The actors did a really good job in the show. Writing wasn't the best but they carried it.

I enjoyed it a lot. It was a slow burn but there was quite a bit to digest. Thrawn’s announcement was perfect. Really loved Thrawn’s Kintsugi Stormtroopers. And the Captain’s helmet face. Reminded me an ancient Roman calvary helmet. That was sweet touch. Also, we got to know more about General Baylan Skoll! Can’t wait for next week.

The triangular jedi starfighters were retroactively based on Star Destroyers. So just like with the hyperspace rings for those ships, this one will bring the Chimera back.

there are more hints : Thrawn speaks of death and ressurection Enoch says Die well the trooper who is guarding that ratdog is not affraid of it and stands fearless almost like dead.

Eh, I figured this was obvious. It made me wonder if Star Wars is becoming too amalgamated by references and fanservice to tell a well-paced, clear, and concise story. There are too many gaps that the fans are filling in to explain crucial details in the show that are left ambiguous, like how Ahsoka reached the wbw, why could Hera hear the lightsabers, why was Ezra declared missing to no avail but Sabine found him after walking around for 30 minutes. Not everything is adding up. Hopefully these next two episodes attempt to explain some these things.

I was thinking that the reasonings for the red bandages on their armor were that said troopers had been outside of their known galaxy for years and that they had to do whatever they thought necessary to keep their (soon to be falling apart) armor intact like how Mayday did in Bad Batch.What you described put things into a whole different perspective...

I really don’t want the stormtroopers to be zombies but rather they are survivors and they have just changed there looks to be more suited for there new situation

Yes. Their armor has been repaired with a visual derived from the "wabi-sabi" aesthetic-the cracks and damage repaired with gold or red instead of hidden. This guy's zombie stuff is just raw speculation at this point.

@@grandmoffjake6871 Indeed-a good bit of emphasis was put on them loading stuff into the Star Destroyer instead of leaving right away, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's something dangerous in there :)

It makes sense as Enoch is wearing death mask fused into his helmet.

I really loved how they use the Nightsister cloth and that's a direct reference to the thread of fate making up that cloth and weaving it altogether.

I would like to think that thrawns statement implies that they are Alive. I would also like to think that they are all season veterans and the armour shows their scars. They feel more menacing as live soldiers than brain dead zombies

Imagine what it must be like for these Troopers when they were alive if they are indeed dead now. Think about how they lived out their last years, trapped in another galaxy for nearly a decade, no hope of returning home, scarce resources, some of them probably went insane and ended it all only for their corpses to be reanimated by the Witches.

This ep gave me a lot of questions: How was Ezra still alive, and why didnt Thrawn know where he was? Why are the nightsisters so afraid of Jedi? Is it because Jedi can undo their magic? Or because a Jedi can wake whatever sleeping power is on that world? What are Baylan and Shin really after? It seemed like they wanted Thrawn to revive the Empire, but now it seems like they want whatever power is on the world that Thrawn happened to occupy. Are they being driven by belief in the myths that Baylan mentioned? Why do the Purrgl travel to this world to die? Why, after all this time, does Thrawn care about finding or stopping Ezra? And what are the nightmothers so afraid of?

Maybe Ezra stole something thrawn needs, like a map or some artifact. Jedi are about life, midichlorians are in every living thing, the witches have death magic. they are opposite. It looks like he feels betrayed and lied to by the jedis and is tired of the sith shenanigans too, he might be after the truth and the origins of the force. it sounded like it was a space whale cemetery first, and the witches happened to live there. some animals go to a place to die, like elephants. it sounds like the death whales inspired the witches death worship, or helped them discover their powers.

1. Ezra survived by moving around, avoiding Thrawns men and hostile scavengers, likely staying with that community of sentient crabs we saw. 2. Jedi and Sith have access to the force, this may scare them some as their magick can largely be beat by the Force. It’s said that the night sisters could of learned magick from a Jedi exile initially 3. They want power, true power, it seems Baylon is after the power to stop the cycle of war (as well as the cycle of the Jedi rising and falling, and the empire taking their place) 4. Like the other commenter said, some animals just travel to certain spots to die, there are elephant graveyards that I can remember off the top of my head, sometimes they just go to where their ancestors have died 5. And lastly, as shown by Thrawn saying it doesn’t matter if Ezra and Sabine are killed or left of Peredia forever, he doesn’t quite care, and cares more about getting back to the galaxy

Close, but I think it is more in reference to the fact Enoch was taken by God into Heaven and that it is said he "did not die". The only reason that book is kept out of the Bible was because the Archbisops at the Council of Nicaea understood it's significance and the power it would take away from their newly formed power which was the holy Roman church. Same thing with the book of Ezekiel and all the dead sea scrolls. That significance being contact with extraterrestrials in our past, space travel and mechanical flying objects in pre-flood biblical era. Cause how can you have a God centric religion when you have entities out there that can take you off this planet and fly you to another part of the galaxy. Can't have that, can't have the pacified denizens asking questions about beyond Earth. Beyond the prison.

what does non canon mean in reference to the bible mate. I mean; yes, I know the bible is fiction, and nothing more then a fairytale. but it is not seen as such and is followed as truth so ; do you mean its not part of the king james? or it was written after and is more like fan fic? because if its the first.. its just as valid as the rest; king james just picked and chose what he wanted to put in there and altered it to his liking with a team of scholars. if its also an ancient text then he just didnt like it as much is all that means. there are many many expanded books which are not in the bible as we know it. countless tales from that era deemed unimportant or unworthy by the king or his team. History mingled with fantasy the lot.

At first I thought Mother Talzin lived. Then I realized that the expansion on the lore was EPIC in this part bc she was the only Great Mother in our galaxy. But this one has THREE and they're AFRAID of something in their galaxy that is calling to Baylan. Imagine it's a f*cking Starweird💀!!! We know they made it into Disney canon. Also though I gotta say the SW fandom feels so alive. What I've been enjoying most about this show is making my own reviews on YT and just watching other creators' vids about theories and such. This is the closest the Star Wars universe has ever gotten to being like Warhammer 40k in terms of ascetics and tone. Hell, even Thrawn’s Captain’s helmet reminds me of Dante’s from 40k.

Like it's different, but has the same feel of monumental pillars jutting everywhere around the world that everyone just lives on top of, unaware of whatever true power they may contain.

In my opinion enoch Is a very interesting character because of his name and design: - the name (as you probably already know) Is taken from the bible and Is probably a simble of loyalty (in this case to thrawn) - his design reminded me of the Roman cavalry Mask which was famously used by aurelian which was a Roman emperor that, during the crisis of the 3rd century, made the Roman Empire great again (a paralel to the Galactic empire)

I tell ya what though the Night Troopers look fucking awesome with their Kintsugi vibes The whole thing about stormtroopers being dead and brought back may be hinted at by their armour design. It's clearly influenced by Kintsugi, which is all the gold bits you can see, the plates mended by the gold. Kintsugi is basically taking something broken and repairing it so that it is now even better (twisting it somewhat to fit with the theory but close enough), which is right on theme with the theory of necromancy used on the dead troopers.

very cool theory and I hope it's true. But one damaged Star Destroyer full of troopers can't be nearly enough to take over the SW galaxy, even if those troopers are undead and commanded by Thrawn. The Imperial Remnants would still need to provide most of the troops and ships I think I hope that's addressed

To be honest considering his rank and as well his knowledge of being in command of a battlefield he will excel where the new republic has trouble finding spies when they started out as spies. Also keen detail maybe that he knows of imperial strongholds or armories that are highly classified that only a grand admiral would know

I also really liked the design choice of the gold-mended broken body armor that mimics Japanese Kintsugi - "Kintsugi is the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold - built on the idea that in embracing flaws and imperfections, you can create an even stronger, more beautiful piece of art."

ok so it looked like they were carrying coffins at 1:25 . Could these be the bodies of additional night troopers, like vampires, maybe they need to sleep in coffins from time to time?

Thrawn also said he cant send additional soldiers to help because he cant replace them. that could indicate not all of them are dead. or theyre not dead at all. the magic couldve also been used to enchance the soldiers capabilities rather than have resurrected them

Okay this was a great catch and answered the thought in the back of my mind, “Why are they still loyal to the dude who got them stranded in another galaxy?”

That was crazy. I didn't even notice this! I was wondering why the storm troopers were acting so strangely. I initally thought they were just wearing worn-out armor due to being exiled. In my mind, I was asking so many questions. Are they human? The catacombs? Why is thrawn loading up so many caskets? Are they the fallen from encounters with the nomads? I didn't even notice the green smoke from Night Sister's magic from Marrok's death. It was such a great episode.

I knew they reminded me of something when i first saw them. Death Troopers, the top tier book from legends about a zombie outbreak on an imperial prison ship, and then a damaged star destroyer.

Thanks for this. I thought the broken, mended armor was just another reference to the Japanese 'imperfect' art of kintsugi, much like Kylo Ren's helmet. This sure sheds some light on it. The thought of Marrok being a precursor to the night troopers never crossed my mind.

Thrawn says that the numbers have been dwindling during exile either means they’re still alive and a most of them probably starved to death within the 9-10 years of being stuck(Or cannibalism) or that the magic started to wear off on some of the undead troopers

Super power up stormtroopers so basically clone trooper lol. Basically making them actually able to hit something would be a boost lol

I thought all the night sisters were killed by Count Dooko in Clone Wars.. I hope they explain How they survived..in detail. The story and history of the night sister would be a fascinating story in live action..😊

That's a good point. Something feels... off...

From a visual design standpoint, not only do the revenants have a bright crimson wrap around parts of their stained and scuffed white armor, parts of the panoply have been pieced back together like kintsugi.

Good Explanation about the Troopers!

I had a feeling these are zombie troopers seeing how all their armors are busted up and repaired with gold paint/glue, like that fancy japanese repair method Kintsugi. That combined with necromancy that we have seen from the night sisters earlier in the show.

I’m getting flashbacks of the Death Troopers novel. It’s almost like the Night Troopers are the realization of what Project Blackwing was trying to achieve.

These are some of the coolest ass storm troopers I've ever seen. The repairing of their broken armors like Japanese lacquer wares with the gold and stuff , they looked dirty, the red bandages. They look scary like zombies army from the grave.

@@UlyssesTalbot even IN CANON, there are a bunch of zombie undeath stories; in the clonewars cartoon (several times), in fallen order , and the nightsisters use revival magics across the board always, even if theyre less intense then in legends material.

I hadn't thought of that! I assumed their look and chanting was more like a cult kind of thing. Like Thrawn had managed to cultivate that kind of loyalty and used it to keep his troopers together and not lose hope until they could be rescued.

Whatever the case, they are my favorite stormtroopers now. I love the battle scarred, patched together, gold bonded, red wrapped armor. It looks fantastic.

This show is so much fun. This is exactly what I wanted to see.

Imagine being a live Stormtrooper as more and more of your comrades are brought back to life, knowing that your time was coming. OR, knowing Thrawn, he wanted *completely* loyal troopers and had them all killed and reanimated at the start

the symbolism and telegraphing is great in this episode.

I really want them to make the troopers and thrawn skilled and terrifying as they canonically are. We always see them portrayed as clumsy, horrible shots, blah blah and basically just stupid in that kids show Rebels. Hopefully they make them like they did in Andor and actually make em to the point where they give the new republic a whoopin'

Just found your channel. Great stuff. Definitely think Thrawn uses zombies or clones at one point if he isnt already. Lets not forget the Mt. Tantiss clone stuff on Bad Batch and the clone-army from the OG Thrawn Trilogy

This never crossed my mind and would have made this episode that much better instead of dragging this important detail until the next episode for a jarring reveal with no explanation once one of them is killed.

Marrock iirc is named after an old english legend, i remember him being described as "a knight turned into a wolf by a witch" Baylan and shin are named after wolves, marrock was perhaps a jedi knight, turned like baylan and shin (a wolf) by a dathomiri witch.

Just another addition the art of Kintsugi is taking broken or destroyed vases in Japanese culture and using gold to fill the cracks to repair them. It was used by nobles and rich families as it continues to symbolize wealth and power with the strength to repair that which is broken. If you look at the dark marble inlayed with gold and then the stormtroopers as well as the ship have gold inlayed in different areas to make them whole again.
