Oh No You Didn't! - Metal Detecting takes a Mysterious Twist with the OLDEST Coin He's Ever Found!
Ойын-сауық
We all keep a mental record of our personal bests. Maybe it's the biggest fish you ever caught, the most weight you ever bench pressed, or your best bowling score ever (286 for me, 9/15/01 wink wink). Whatever it is, it's something you proudly remember but also always hope to one day break. Well the same goes with metal detecting, and one of the biggest personal bests that every detectorist keeps track of is the oldest coin they've ever dug. So when a day like that comes along and that record is broken; well that's a day that will always be remembered, but what if that coin is not what it appears to be! Oh man, the mystery then begins...

@@dogtagdoug6751 thank you love you guys videos 🤪👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That counterfeit was almost as old as Doug!!! Oh, that was the Rosie....My bad!
I was writing about the counterfeits, then you brought it up. Those counterfeits are higher value then the normal coins. Great hunt guys. Keep up the beep, good luck and happy hunting!
Way to go guys!!! Great digs. Awesome find Dog Tag Doug! Love it, Jason, when you break everything down so we all can understand. Tomorrow is going to be my first dig. All because of you guys!
Willian 3ard, the alloy varies and that is why it rings different. Back then they weren't consistent with mental mixing. Better consistency came later. but you are right about counterfeiting. It was done a lot in every era. I've seen counterfeit state coins as well. But that still may not be a counterfeit. The only way to tell is the quality of the cast or milling and there isn't enough face left to know.
WOW! Doug what a find, Congrads, May you find comfort on cold winter nights sleeping with your Britania. Good Luck with her she ain't no Dog.
I think you nailed this ID. Your thought process is spot on.
Jason wonderful storytelling at the end of this video..some of your very best work, imo. You're good at this stuff no doubt...the best, imo, and this is your best work yet.
Wow Doug amazing coin congratulations! Great detective work Jason great story!!
Congrats Doug! Amazing find! Loved the theories about the coin at the end Jason! I think you are right.
So excited found my first piece of gold jewelry pendent today
Dog Tag Doug should change his name to Dougzilla after that awesome find. That is really a cool find. Awesome video man.

Great video guys… I really appreciated the detailed explanation of Doug’s old coin… Sounds like you have it pegged from my perspective
Great investigative details! Probably best video!
Doug! You're the man!! What a find! And the story behind it is incredible! Jason, I believe you're spot on in your assessment, and congrats to you, too!!! Great hunt, well done!
Amazing find Doug! Thanks for the awesome videos!!
Loved the story on the William 3rd coin. Great vid. Loved it!!
That’s awesome congrats Doug! Great videos guys!
😆 I love your guy’s videos! Great advice...dig every repeatable signal. I tell that to everybody, well not everybody, but you know.
Congrats Doug! Knew it had to be a counterfeit when you beeped over it again, way to low. Very cool find especially being able to tie it to a hoard found close by😎👍😊✌
Awesome find!!! Congrats to Doug!!! That deserves a whole new nickname!!! Good luck to you guys on your next time out!!!
Awesome coin Doug! Whatever it may be, it's your special slice of history!! Another great hunt guys! Congrats Jason on your George II !!

Great research. Some video. Congratulations Doug. Love y'all.✌❤
Great video guys.... very exciting adventure with finding the K.W.lll counterfeit
Congratulations Dog Tag Doug!! Incredible counterfeit! Jason congrats on your copper! Great dig! Thanks for the ride along! Be safe and HH ⛏🎧
OMG, always love listening to you and dog tag Doug. You guys crack me up. Great investigating on the coin. We should call you the Sherlock Holmes of metal detecting.
your videos are always on spot and very informative. Keep it up
Remember when you 'flip the coin', the USA flips coins from bottom to top. The UK and Australia, like most other countries, flip from left to right. So Williams head and Britannias head both point "up". Crikey, I hope that made sense. Cheers!

That’s what I always thought about crosspond coins. Confused here...
Great find Doug Congrats.
On the nose you totally nailed it as you say you been doing it long enough to know this wow and find of a life time love the videos we have a lot of history here in the uk but no one has the enthusiasm as you do over there 👍
Great video guys!! Great treasures found. You two are so funny I love it. As your finds. =)
100% positive ID: 1st issue William III halfpenny, dating it between 1695-1698. Somewhere in 1698 and through part of 1699, they switched to the 2nd issue design which would show the date where the NIA is on Doug's coin. The 3rd issue (99-01) is out of the question as Britannia's arm is resting on her knee. They don't usually ring that low, but it's not screaming "counterfeit" to me, either. Probably just a poorly mixed batch of copper. Great find, Doug!
Congrats Doug-Boat on the old coin. Great hunt guys
How cool was that?! Amazing history on your digs
Great hunt fellas!! Way to go Doug on your 1600's "clad"!! Haha! It is still a killer score if it is counterfeit or not! Congrats everybody and good luck on the next!
Great detective work on identifying that coin.
A great addition to any collection. Even counterfeit, its value must be good given the rarity of those coins. Great channel you have sir. Cant wait to see your next hunt.
Great job on the research, think you're spot on with the ID. I have to agree with what some other people have commented also, could be either a poor alloy mix or a straight up counterfeit coin, which was common in that time. Even if counterfeit, it wasn't modern, it was done in that time period, which is awesome! Great find Doug, congratulations! Nice hunt and finds, good luck on your next hunt!
As always, entertaining and educational. Would be curious what readings you'd get with the Garrett Metal Detector on the old coin that Doug found. Several times you mentioned 1877 Indian penny. Is this a rare one?
Congratulations Doug!!!!
Awesome job guys!!
I agree 100% , great detective work !
A quarter hoarder 420 in the Buckeye here. Good job on your investigation two thumbs up
Thank you for another great detecting video! Some really good finds too. Loved your analysis of the coin. You should be a detective;-)
Great wrap up!
Amazing video, great investigatory work!! You and Dog Tag Doug, Mexican Doug, Jane FonDoug Rock!!
I will be digging 14s on my Nox tomorrow...lol..just in case... Crazy...tho possibly counterfeit...there's always a great story. Great show fellas!
ZOOEEEMAMA!!! Coinfest! Incredible relic recoveries!!! WTG QH Crew!!!
Shower shank! HAHAHAHA! Loved the vid!
I think you’re correct about the counterfeit William III, I’ve dug 2 counterfeit colonial coins this year, a KGII and a KGIII, both rang up between 16 and 19 on my equinox and a real KGII will ring up a solid 26. Congrats Doug !!
👍 nice research!
I think you proved the case on that coin. Thanks for sharing, good luck, happy hunting and take care.
awesome video, always a lot of to watch.
Congrats Doug on your oldest copper. I found a William and Mary that ring up in the low 50's like a shotgun shell on an AT Pro. King Williams usually ring up like KG's if not slightly lower. I'm leaning towards counterfeit KW but just a guess.
Started w/ace 350 then 400 added the SIMPLEX RECENTLY. Guys it's better then what im seeing other saying it doesn't go deep. WHATEVER.... It's more accurate on depth and it's going as deep and deeper then my 400. In farm mode on a ft. Deep ALWAYS... And it's teaching me to SIMPLY dig all solid repeating numbers. I love the other settings. But farm mode is a game changer on the SIMPLEX y'all
Excellent information. Very interesting, Kurt has found some counterfeits. You should check with him about what rings up low .
Nice finds guys. Been a long time follower. Oh I still need to buy that new digger tool Jason. Will be in touch.
Congrats Doug cool find if its the counterfeit probably rarer then the real one!!!
You all are too funny! Awesome finds. Counterfeit coin was a great find.
good break down
Dougie Rules !!! Right on boys !!! Well done 👍
Wow that would be incredible counterfeit or not. Very cool location and hunt.
my weekly fix you guys are Awesome...
Awsome finds as usual 😁 I have found 5 king William's, that coin looks very much like the one's I have gotten, and I'm pretty sure none came in that low on my Nox 600, guess I will have to check, maybe I have some counterfeit coins 🤣 lol
Earlier this summer I dug a William the third half penny At a park here in down east Maine of course the park service wanted it but 6 inches down in sandy soil it rang up at 92 with my anfibio . Once I got it out it rang up at 82 . It took me a bit of research to identify since only William was visible. So all this is to say I’m with u counterfeit . So cool!!!!
First thought that popped in my head when you swung over it was that it was a counterfeit.
I took my nephew metal detecting with me to an old homestead place here in Oklahoma .. I've been metal detecting for years and years 30 minutes after I take him his first time ever to go he digs up a glass top jar full of old half a dollars beside of the corner of the house now the 12-year-old is the best metal detector in the family and he has been rubbing it in on a daily basis . now he wants to go every weekend so I have accomplished what I wanted he is putting the Xbox down getting off the computer and having the time of his life and he keeps everything he digs up being an uncle is great
That's why it's good when you go out to be with friends that have different machines. We ran into a similar situation a few weeks ago when we had a coin ring in low and we checked it with different machines. Now I'm wondering if the coin he found was counterfeit coin too. It wasn't a William 1/2 Penny, but state copper.
"What did that ring up as?" "Beep, beep, beep." LoL Love you guys! :D

@@dogtagdoug6751 You guys are fun!
yep counterfeit still a great find! need to get with yall for a good time to come up and dig? getting some time off soon!
I see what you saw, a really really old William coin! Thank you for explaining it with all the examples. That's why you're the best at what you do!
You do realize if you pull a tombac button with a shank still intact that you've been - wait for it - Tom Shanksed. LOL :) New detector lingo for you :)
Hi , this is so interesting to me , what kind or brand is medal detector ,and pin pointer should I get. ? And the shovel too. ,I can't wait to hear from you . I'm in Elpaso Texas.
Seeing as they didn't have metal detectors back in that time I wouldn't doubt that those coins passed and were used as actual currency....despite the fact. The devousness of greedy ppl...great research work, you might have made a really good detective had you went that path...
Could be lead and Seems like a counterfeit the way it rang up. The quality of the coins decreased as the reign of King William lengthened. Good find and good hunt and excellent investigative breakdown!!
Nice finds and coins! Aren't metal detecting finds interesting as you say you never know!
Awesome video guys! You sure make my snowy day a little better!
What kind of detector's are you using? Are they the same or different?? GOOD FIND anyways
sweetness nice coin. wow.
Counterfeit or not still a period find and to me a rarer one nonetheless.. I called William III counterfeit as well
I am interested in getting started, what machine do you suggest?
Nice guys keep up the videos
First off, great hunt. Always fun to watch..But I found 47 buttons In a pit in tennessee . 29 were ball buttons and the rest were 2 or 3 piece flat buttons with extra quality on the back. Most were still attached to a uniform. If I email or message you do you think i could possible get some help identifying them.
That was interesting 🤔
A Williiam III half penny can't be a Hibernia with Brittania on it ( to be a Hibernia it would have a crowned harp on the reverse ). George I had a Hibernia coin with Brittania on it known as the William Woods coinage. Both monarchs look the same way and have hair tassels. Not sure on id of this coin but I will go with William III. Round ball buttons were also used on gloves. Hope this info helps from across the pond. 😊.
First thing I thought was it's counterfeit. Cheaper alloys are always counterfeit
Way to go Counterfeit Doug!
I think you may be right about that half penny being William, and maybe a counterfeit, to boot, but you are turning the coin wrong. I believe that British coins turn to the side and what you are calling the tuft of hair that looks too high is probably his rather prominent nose. Nice find though, however you look at it.
Hey there just curious which state you are in?
Could it be a counterfit? They must have counterfited coins; a job as old as time! HA...you just said it! OMG! I'm right!
Im interested in a decent metal detector around the 300 and under price range.. what are my options?
By the patina, Doug's coin looks bronze to me.
HAPPY NEW YEARS
QH ... U my Brother r Columbo !!! I think u hound dogged that coin down ... well done 👍 boys
1873 ! 3 pricey varieties... Have you cleaned it yet?
