OMG it is a real disaster! I am so sorry for you! The poor cat must have been mad being closed in the polytunnel without being able to go out for such a long time. I appreciate how you take it Lyn, that the cat comes first. You really got alot of extra work to do now, repotting all those plants and cleaning up. The best thing is that the plants were not damaged! Thanks for sharing everything with us! Hope you have a great day my friends Lyn and Hans! Lots of love and happiness!

*Oh no!!* 🤦🏻‍♀️ I could barely look, Lyn.. I just wanted to jump through the TV screen and help you clear up!! If I could just wave a magic wand and put it all back together again!! 🪄 It warms my heart though how you were more concerned for the puddy cat.. 😽❤ Thank goodness he's OK.. Of course it could have been much worse, and I don't think the ginger boy will be back in a hurry.. My cats live indoors (and have access to a "catio" outside) so they don't touch my cacti.. Thinking of you.. sending lots of love and PLANT POWER to you and Hans for a speedy clean-up! ✊🥰💚🌵

Oh my gosh, Lyn. Ginger kitties are known for having a little bit of an ornery streak in them. My daughter (Sydney) has a ginger kitty, named Simba. And the things he has gotten himself into are unbelievable sometimes! I hope that none of your plants of sustained any damage. I do love that your main concern was the well-being of the cat. That just speaks to the type of person that you are. 😊 I sure hope that your week get much better for you. And that the cleanup process moves along quickly. Best wishes....-Bennie ❤ 🌵🍀🌞🌈

Oh man, that is so sad! Would installing window screening on your green house doors help? That way you can keep the doors closed, while still getting air into the tunnel and it will keep the animals out. I do realize that you need plastic on the doors during cold spells, but perhaps you could get some removable fiberglass sheets for the doors for when you need extra protection?

Ohnoooo, Lyn!! So terribly sorry to hear and see what has happened, Lyn, sounds like definitely the very last thing you needed when you are so busy at the moment any way! I can 100% feel for you as I had something a little similar happen to me several years back, when I had two cats that were fighting over a dead mouse storm into my old greenhouse during broad daylight and they smashed everything off the large tables and shelves... I know exactly how you are feeling, full of despair and frustration, but try not to worry too much, Lyn, everything can and will be fixed and OK again, and sooner than you think! I think you are taking a very healthy and fantastic attitude, being so positive and thankful nothing even worse happened (...cat could have injured itself, or this could have happened during the winter, etc, etc). I know that this all is no consolation right now. If only I was living a bit closer, I would really like to come over to help you and Hans with the clean up, repotting and fixing the polytunnel... Take a few deep breaths, have a cuppa or two first, and then, with fresh energy, perhaps after sleeping over this for a night, step by step work your way back to what will be an even tidier and even better polytunnel setup than you have ever had! At the back of every storm there is a silver lining! Wishing you and Hans lot's of strength and positivity, despite this all, sending you very best greetings over to you both on the beautiful Emerald Isle! Kind regards and best wishes from the bottom of my heart, Joe

Awwwww Joe, thats such a wonderful message you have wrote, thank you so much for your really kind words, so sorry to hear you have experienced this with your two cats smashing all your plants off the tables, that must have been awful to clear up and to sort all your plants and all the tables again, thank goodness the cat was safe and I don't think he will be in too fast of a hurry to come back to see us the poor cat, but I would have felt awful if something had happened to him especially with all the very sharp cacti we have, we have made a start cleaning up all the soil from the floor and picked up all the plants, the dilemma we have now is fixing the holes in the cover before potting up all the plants and putting them all back away, all the jobs we need to do with our plants definitely never stop surprising us haha, thanks so much Joe for your wonderful Friendship and amazing comment and support and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Bavaria from the Emerald Isle for a brilliant evening ahead XXXX

Oh no! When I was a child we had a cat that used to purposefully knock a house plant over to get attention. I had to stop him sleeping in my bedroom because I had a collection of cacti in there! So sorry that happened and I know you're hurting right now😢 All you can do is take your time and go through everything methodically. The rootballs seem pretty dry so that definitely helps and the weather looks overcast for the next few days so less stress on the plants. Yes, I have been there on a much smaller scale. I had a wooden shelf unit collapse that was packed with rows and rows of just watered cactus and succs. It was a nightmare and I did lose some but once you get over the shock you celebrate what you can save. From what I saw in this video, I think the vast majority of your plants will be absolutely fine 😊

Oh my goodness what a disaster, Lynn! I had similar one winter (I don't close my greenhouse doors at night in summer) when I locked our cat, Catskydoodles, in the greenhouse one night when closing up. Well, she shredded the bubblewrap in several places but luckily there was no plant damage or pot upset (as has happened with you). I must say you are very stoic and have taken this better than I did. 😸😸😸😸! Poor kitty got hugged by prickly cactuses! It didn’t expect to get pricked 🙀😾😸😸😸 My beautiful Monströse cactuses I’ve been caring with love, 4 different kinds, were nipped, chewed away & one eaten down like a watermelon rind by BABY SQUIRRELS! For years I’ve had them out starting in the spring & they’ve never bothered before & there’s always been squirrels around my property! But for the first time, ever , they did a number where I’ve had to cut down to the stumps & saved what I could, & left stems of the original cactuses. Now I will start 8. I guess that’s a good thing & hopefully new babies will grow from the original. I did spray liquid fence around the rest of my cactuses, because we’ve seen a nest of 6 babies 😤🤬. You, you are my reason for loving cactuses & thank you! I’ve learned a lot watching your videos ! Thank you for sharing & teaching me! Enjoy them all!

I'm more concerned if he got any sap, from that table of Euphorbias where he landed, on his paws or fur. Knowing how cats keep themselves clean, that could result in a pretty sick animal.

Oh no, it's such a horrible feeling when you see something like this has happened to your plants. I love cats so I would be the same as you, so relieved that he is OK! Also good that that there doesn't seem to be any damage to the plants although it's going to be a lot of work. I've had a few disasters, once with a woodpigeon coming in the back door that I'd left open and then crazily flapping around a window to get out and knocking all my cacti off the windowsill - I managed to catch the pigeon and put him outside again, he was uninjured and flew off. The other time, a squirrel that I'd been feeding climbed in my kitchen window and knocked most of the cacti off the sill, not too much damage, just a few scratches and broken bits and pieces on the cacti and the squirrel was fine.

Oh no with the Squirrel and the Pigeon Amanda, but thank goodness they were both safe, I was so relieved to see the cat looked safe and was just shocked, it must have been awful for him being trapped all night in the polytunnel surrounded by sharp plants, he is a big cat and if it had been a young kitten it could have been much worse as they could have jumped onto the sharp cacti and really hurt themselves, its going to be a busy few days potting up all the plants again haha, thanks so much Amanda for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from the Emerald Isle for a fantastic Thursday XXXX

Make up a wooden or get a frame of whatever material that can span or fit in the door opening covered with shade cloth or a home made roll down & have it fixed at the lower 1/2 or higher to stop resident cat burglars getting in. If you know someone in the building industry or ally mesh security door screens that have fine wire mesh incorporated they work well. Bare ally mesh is fine however cats are expert contortionists so mesh needs to be small say palm size opening. That however won't stop kittens or rodents hence metal fine mesh or even chicken wire. PS: The cat was actually trying its hand at desert plant arrangement & was going for a more natural look. It kinda got carried away somewhat & went overboard.

ohh my godd Lyn... i am so sorry for you. You sound very positive, but i can imagine i don't know quiet how they say it over there but i say it as we here in Belgium would express our selves... My courage would be in my shoes 🤕... So glad you can see through this disaster and even more glad you were so concerened about the cat and his safety. With yours and Hans's positive vibes you will get it back as it was. Again don't know the english word for it, but can't you place a hor door i mean like those things you put in your windows to keep the musicitos out. That exists for doors as well. so when you leave the door open, the pollytunnel will be closed with such a door, there will be the same air flow, and you won't have to worry anymore leaving the door open!!. The pollytunnel would look great again, i'm sure of it. I give you and Hans a big hugh a sending you lots of love and energy. Love from Belgium, and take care and stay save 🥰🥰😍😍😘😘😘

So very sorry! Poor kitty, too. Hope he wasn't injured by the Euphorbia. I'm wondering if you get a replacement cover, could you double layer it with the scratched cover on the exterior? Maybe bird damage would only be one layer this way and maybe it might add warmth for winter, too?Perhaps it's too tight a fit, but I'm hoping it could be a "silver lining" to the disaster.
