As an educator, I sometimes contemplated the fact that most of the students in my school unfortunately never knew parents like mine. I had my father for 40+ years, and so many never had one at all. I still miss him, but this thought or perspective helped me.

Paul that was beautiful! I’ve never heard that song before. I enjoyed seeing all the different pictures of Pap. You look a lot like him. I know you’re not a dad, however, being a teacher and school principal for many years, you have been a father figure to thousands of children during those years. With that said, Happy Father’s Day! A father is not always a blood relative, it’s a man who inspires the good in any child, listens to them with understanding and guides them to the right direction to fulfill their purpose in this life.

Thanks, Robin. Yes, Gomer's version turns up second when I do a KZread search. He sang it really well. I wish there hadn't been dialogue going on while he sang it.

I think I learned that song in elementary school. The teacher taught us. She sang it using mein instead of my. The papa was pa pa with equal expression on both. Same note, no emphasis in particular. That was two thirds of a century ago.

After reading your narrative on your dad and the song I want to also say I had a wonderful father as well and I’m glad that you and your family had a great dad. I still cry every day.
