Oh, Lord, Keep My Rudder True | Jeffrey R Holland | 1986

"What carried nineteen-year-old Joseph F. Smith so courageously was his answer to the question: 'For what do I live?' It was for gospel truth that he stood up to be counted and for which he was willing to die."

Elder Holland no wonder you are called by God to be a spokesman and teacher. We are grateful that the Lord picked you as a apostle. Thank you for serving our Lord and savior and we are very blessed ,me being one of our Lord's sheep. Thank you! We love and sustain you as a apostle of God!

Oh how I miss the days when church leaders spoke with such firmness and love. Wonderful message on kindness, needed so much in today’s seemingly hostile climate.

Just as powerful and true today as it was when I attended that winter semester devotional, my first as a brand new student at BYU. My love and respect for Elder Holland continues to expand these 35 years later. He is also as relevant to and influential on my 20 year old missionary, now serving in Africa. Truth endures.

This is so powerful. What starts as a small example of disloyalty to one's school, which was sobering enough to hear, Elder Holland masterfully awakens us to our spiritual loyalties to Him who has been so loyal to us. There really are so many BYU speeches that are absolute gems--priceless and exquisite reminders of truth. So valuable. Thank you for posting them.
