Fun Fact: In the campaign, Keyleth went back to check out the orb while the party moved on and attempted to grab the orb. She only survived by rolling a Nat 20 on her strength check to resist getting sucked in. So yeah, the campaign could have been drastically different.

SPOILERS BELOW FOR FUTURE EVENTS, BE WARNED! Yeah, I loved that during the post-campaign wrap up Matt revealed what would have been Keyleth's fate had she failed that roll. She would have been instantly dead, no chance of recovery, Marisha roll a new character now please. Worse in the late game when the party goes to the Shadowfell to face Vecna, they would have found an undead Keyleth roaming that realm and had to face her.

It actually didn't occur to me after watching CR several times through, and seeing LoVM several times, Orthax consumes the souls of Percy's kills, and he didn't get to kill either of the Briarwoods, so they died with their souls 'intact'. Just something for future thought.

Talisan, Percy’s VA, was so upset that Scanlan tossed his gun. But it was for a monetary reason. He enchanted and upgraded the gun so much that he dumped a small fortune into. He looked so devastated after it.

Originally the nameless barrel on Percy’s gun was meant to symbolize one last shot meant for himself after his vengeance was complete. But over time it came to symbolize that his path of vengeance was never-ending. He would always find new people to add to the list, new targets for his vengeance. Edit: thank you everyone for correcting me. I retract that part of my statement as I was evidently working on false information.

@Fall-From-Grace You are spot on. The post campaign wrap up episode confirms that both Taliesin and Matt came to that conclusion but never told the other. The "6th barrel for himself" theory was one that floated around but really didn't gain credence until LoVM.

Yeah, technically it was actually the other way around. Matt's original meaning was that the names would just get replaced with new lists once they were completed until Orthax felt like stopping. But then that never happened, and so they decided that they could retroactively make it be that the last one was for himself, which is what the show implies.

In the original campaign, Percy absolutely didn't trust Scanlan to even touch his gun, in order to destroy it like he did, Scanlan charmed Percy to make him hand it over, after which he told the rest of the party to protect him once the spell wore off

Let me also say, Taliesin (Percy's player) was livid! Making the guns was a very costly process that also takes several in-game days of work and is fairly prone to fail. So you can guess his feeling seeing his best gun being thrown in acid and being unable to do anything to stop it kk Still, f&%k demons. It's not worth it. Good riddance.

@Rafael Calmon I think most players would be pretty upset. A unique weapon with two different enchantments on it was pretty well unheard of. There's never another gun like it in the show. Someone did a cost breakdown and it's more valuable than all the other weapons they own combined at that point.

i have watched ALOT of reactions to this show you are quite literally the only person to understand that percy had "demon bullets"

One more fun detail. Percy usually shoots with his left hand, but when possessed he uses the right hand. Him shooting his own left hand means he's willing to give up his greatest talent, and that determination yeeted the demon.

@@slayeroffurries1115 Oh, it did. But I'm pretty sure you'd beat a retreat too if you were almost forced to feed on yourself via the conditions of your own contract. Regardless of whether or not that did any damage to the thing, the shock value alone would have been immense.

Also on the Keyleth blush scene u are both right, everyone (the party characters) but vax (for obvious reasons), has had a crush on vex at one point. That said Marisha (Keyleth's player/actor) said in the cast watch along is that the blush is bc she was finally being acknowledged by vex who she admired for her confidence for the first time.

Keyleth has a REALLY long life expectancy. A druid feature she'll get later will cause her to age ten times slower than other half-elves. Knowing this, Keyleth doesn't want to get too attached to anyone.

To put the ending into perspective for just how terrifying it would be to see such a sight coming towards you: Brimscythe, the Blue Dragon they fought originally, was considered to be between Young and Adult, which would put him anywhere between 25 to 100 years old with the absolute highest CR (Challenge rating) he could possess being 15, though it is very likely that they are much lower, possibly around the 11-12 category. *All 4* of these Dragons are Ancient. They are all at bare minimum 800 years old. They’re also all Chromatic Dragons. While Metallic Dragons are typically considered the ‘Good’ ones, Chromatic Dragons are considered selfish, cruel and prideful like no other and the only reason they are even remotely considered to be possible to defeat is because they are almost always alone. Having 1 alone is a problem. Having FOUR all working together is unheard of. Just remember how concerned Emon’s leaders were with a Single Young Blue Dragon with a Challenge of, I’d say, around 12. Now take that, and realise that the WEAKEST of these Dragons has a Challenge of 20 in it’s stat block in the DnD book. And Matt in game has buffed them all considerably. Grog, the guy who has tanked bullets, arrows, falling into acid, and countless other things without slowing down? At this point in the story, if 3 of these Dragons were to focus on him and were lucky, Grog is dead in about 6 seconds. If all 4 decided to get revenge on the Goliath that killed their 5th member, no luck needed, the average damage they can output in 6 seconds is enough to outright kill Grog. And they are now dead set on burning Emon to the ground.

Let me add that the reason older dragons have higher Challenge Rating is because a dragon only becomes stronger as they get older. A dragon is at its most powerful at the end of their life. For that reason, ancient dragons are beings that border being godlike. And I mean that literally. There are beings considered gods that have CR 26, like Orcus and Vecna. An Ancient Red Dragon has CR 24, which is pretty close.

In the original stream, Keyleth's reaction to Vax's confession was a ... LITTLE different. But I think they're leaning into more Keyleth's inexperience. She's never been told someone was in love with her before, and even in the campaign it does take her a long while to process her feelings.

Season 2 came out today, so it's good timing.

I daresay the first 3 episodes of season 2 is even better than season 1.

Cassandra's "sunlight" comment was not intended to be a "nice sentiment" - she was deliberately mocking Sylas' death to throw salt on the wound and hurt Delilah. As for Keyleth, IIRC she's demisexual which means she can be into anyone, regardless of gender, as long as she's formed a strong emotional bond with them first, and isn't immediately attracted to anyone based solely on their looks. The reason she blushed specifically for Vex and not Vax here is because up to now, Vex has been hard on her and is now being supportive, calling her "Kiki" and "darling", and touching her which caught her off guard, whereas she's had a closer relationship with Vax for a while and is already aware of his feelings for her. So in that moment, there was probably a realization of "oh no, I like *both* of the twins!"

I had a full on Grog moment in your reaction. When you were talking about telling Delilah "at least Silas got to see sunlight once more" and you said "oooh that is DARK"... my inner Grog went "uhhh but it's a bunch of sunlight... how can it be Dark?" lolz Vex and Vax are bi, KiKi is queer/demisexual... and that's from the players, so yeah it is canon. Not suprisingly, it isn't too hard to find fan fiction and Rule 34 stuff that ummm explores the relationship musical chairs lol

I still remember when Matt flexed his DM power by dropping all 4 chromatic dragons into the city as the players scrambled to not die and save their precious NPCs. Ahhhh, good times~

To answer your question about why they don't make the same bargain Delilah did with Silas: they can't. Delilah was a powerful wizard that took years to specialize in necromancy. It's a different sort of magic than what any of the party can do, and none of them are powerful enough to attempt it even if they were wizards. They don't have the knowledge or capabilities. Kiki's healing magic is something that's available to a lot of different spellcasters, so it's not hard to manage it. As far as "better than being dead," it's not for an Ashari. A Druid would generally rather stay dead than be a vampire. They're all about the natural order, and the undead are anathema to that. And you're right about the bullets. This is one of only 2 times he doesn't reload. The other is when facing Stonefell (when he unloads 7 bullets). The gun is an extension of Orthax at this point, so reloading is unnecessary. As far as killing Delilah, she'd had to have been at the spinning orb to be sacrificed, so they're fine to kill her.

For Context, Delila was deliberately taunting Vox Machina so that they would kill her, not because it would finish the spell, but because Delila had no reason to go on living. She wanted to die, so that she could be with her beloved again. In spite of all the horrible things the Briarwoods did, everything they did was for each other, for love. And that's what makes them such awe inspiring villains, "the twisted virtue".

in regard to the man Scanlan was flirting with, who is designed off the lead character designer Phil Bourassa - if you watch again, the man looks up, over Scanlan, and shakes his head no, before Vax comes into pull Scanlan away. It's just a small moment that I really love that they added.

15:47 - *“I still think the blood's gonna be the sacrifice.”* No, Delilah already _did_ the blood sacrifice herself, last episode, when she cut her arm open and the blood flowed into the ritual circle. The ritual is completed. It _looks_ as if the plan didn't work, since even Delilah expected Vecna ("The Whispered One") to manifest right there and then, but installing the Spinny Orb of Death in a place of power was actually the plan all along. Anything more than that would be a spoiler, if they continue the show until the final Vecna story arc. 27:55 - *“Holy shit! I didn't think that the four would come up- roll up like that!”* Chroma Conclave: Hey you guys! Say, have you seen our junior partner around here somewhere? You know… little guy, blue, not very powerful? He was supposed to take care of some business for us around here, but we haven't heard from him in a while, so we just thought we'd pop over and take care of it ourselves…

25:50 I'd just like to say, I'm not sure why you keep acting like Vax hooking up with Gilmore precludes him hooking up with Kiki, if she ever gets to a point where she's willing to date him regardless of her thingdee that she'll one day have to return from to lead her tribe. Given everything we've seen of Gilmore, I don't think he wants a serious relationship with Vax. He wants to hook up with him when it suits them both. It's why he was so interested when he saw the little moment in his shop between Vax and Kiki. He strikes me as someone not so prone to "love" or "committed relationships," but who definitely likes the physical ones; but also who likes seeing other people in love. All that to say, I think Gilmore would be more than happy to watch Kiki and Vax date, so long as Vax remained available for the occasional booty call.

@@AlmostOtaku7 Fascinating. I've not heard any of Exandria Unlimited. My little sister is the Critical Roll enthusiast, not me (even if she likes D20 a little more in general, she says Matt Mercer is an incredible DM, but is an even more incredible RPer, so she loves the series' that he's a player in), so I didn't know about that. If I read him wrong there, that's good to know, but it doesn't change that I don't think he wants that with Vax. I think I'm still probably half-right, and the fact that we only see his interaction with Vax in the first season is the basis of my misconception, so please excuse it.

So unlike most other shows, remember that this is based off a D&D campaign. While your player characters in such games are far tougher and more durable than the common folk, *there is no such thing as plot armor here*. The will of the dice determines your fate. If you take enough damage to bring your hit points to zero, you go down as unconscious and have to start rolling death saving throws. 3 successes and you wake up with 1 HP, 3 fails and you die. During this time someone could heal you to bring you back up, but if you're in a bad spot and roll low enough, you're dead dead. Death can come for a character at any time, in any battle, in any situation if everyone involved rolls terribly enough. The Dice Gods do not care about your character growth, if they want you dead that's about all you can do. Turns out that the big bad evil guy doesn't care about his minions after all, who knew? The Whispered One (in the game is Vecna if you're familiar with him) had honored his part of the deal already and doesn't care about Delilah's sufferings so long as she upholds her end of their arrangement and summons him. While the ritual wasn't perfect due to being performed too soon (the solstice is still a few days out and that's when they were planning on performing it), it appears to have worked enough. Bigger issues to deal with right now, but that's a problem for another day now. Vex's line to Percy "Darling, take of the mask..." is one of the most iconic lines in the entire campaign. To the point that when they realized that they were going to be able to animate the entire Briarwood arc in it's entirety, Vex's player Laura Bailey tweeted out "Darling, take off the mask....but animated!" in her sheer excitement at being able to do that moment. Vox Machina vs No Mercy Percy hits way harder in this fight than it does in the original game. There the demon actually manifested itself outside of Percy's body and the group fought it like any other enemy. Having it remain in possession of Percy the whole time added a fun inner battle layer to it here that didn't exist there. Though the game did lead to the fun line from Taliesin about how Matt had "a mini of the dark specter of my soul" ready to go with Matt responding with a gleeful smile "of course I do!" Ladies and gentlemen, meet Orthax the Vengeance Demon. When creating Percy as a character, Taliesin simply wrote in his backstory that the Briarwoods killed the noble family he came from and that after escaping, Percy had a dream where a thing made of smoke offered him vengeance and the next morning Percy was inspired to create the first gun. He left it up to Matt to determine if it was just a dream or something more. Matt decided to make it a demon possession, effectively turning Percy from a Fighter/Gunslinger into an accidental Warlock too. Throughout the whole show, the animators have been very careful to only let Percy fire six shots at once before reloading. The only times Percy fires more are when Orthax is in control. Executing Stonefell, for example, took 7 shots. When the demon is behind the wheel, the List has infinite magical ammo. Yeah, everyone whose name is on the List and killed by Percy has their souls consumed by Orthax. The blank barrel that had no name? Not for Percy, it was a sign that there is always room for more. That when Percy kills the 5 names on the list, more will take their spots. Anyone who even slightly crosses Percy gets put on the List as the cycle of vengeance *NEVER STOPS*. Once more, it's the love of his family, both biological and found, that snaps Percy back. Cassandra being alive broke it after executing Stonefell, Vex and the others being there for him broke it in the acid trap room, and now all of them being with him gives him just enough strength to fight Orthax. And like he said to Anders, "it bought him all the time he needed". Scanlan actually did throw the gun in the acid entirely on a whim and it did sever the connection that Orthax was secretly hiding with Percy in the game. Unlike here though, Percy (and moreover Taliesin) never forgave Scanlan (or Sam, though it was more lighthearted here) for destroying it. Outside of Bad News, The List was the most powerful gun Percy ever had and while he does build a replacement (a 4-barrelled pepperbox called Retort) and others later, none ever were as powerful as the List. During their watch party last year, Taliesin jokingly told Sam that he was still upset at losing that gun. Technically speaking Vex does have some interest in Keyleth. So the orientation of the party is as such: Vax and Vex are both bisexual, Scanlan is pansexual in his quest to bed everyone willing, Keyleth is demisexual with her being attracted to those she forms a bond with (so yes, she and Vex *are* potential), and the rest are straight. Percy's hand covering is an interesting thing. In the game he invents a device that allows him to absorb magical energy and release it as a touch-based attack, giving him an option in melee combat. It's a specialized glove he wears in his off-hand and like his new pistol Retort also has a pun name, being "Diplomacy". Think Asami's shock glove from The Legend of Korra. As Percy doesn't blow a hole in his hand in the game, it appears that the hand covering here might function as a twist on it. It remains to be seen if it will serve as the show's take on Diplomacy or if he'll build something to attach to it. Just a neat little take on it here. And yeah, welcome to the actual plot of the campaign. The Briarwoods? A side adventure. These dragons and the struggle against them form the vast majority of the game's run time. They are here and here to stay.

Finally decided I'm gonna binge this show this weekend especially with the new season starting up. But I gotta ask, more vinland soon?

Those are called stairs. They're not even remotely close to the ritual site anymore. Lots of backstory in this episode, ok. Ahem! Ok so after the battle, Scanlan really did get Percy to hand him his gun, using a charm spell even, and then tossed it into the acid they threw Delilah into. Taliesin STILL hasn't fully gotten over that, because the Pepperbox in the game was EXPENSIVE. He spent a while just lamenting how much money it cost. In the game the gun had a few enchanted barrels to give it magic damage. It was possessed, but it was also SO much money. He never fully recovered from losing it. So about the 6th barrel. Both Tal and Matt explained what would happen if Percy finished his list. 5 more names would appear. The empty 6th barrel represents how the list is never completed, there's always the next name. Orthax was never going to just let Percy go. The last barrel being for himself was just a fan theory that was incorrect. Stop trying to make Keyleth gay. She's just awkward. Also Vex calls everyone darling. Brimscythe was an adult dragon. These 4 are ANCIENT dragons. Comparatively, Vox Machina killed a bratty teenager.

Also, Brymsythe (the blue dragon) was considered a Young dragon. These 4 are considered Ancient. Difference between 50 years old, and nearly 200

I don't think strength in this case matters, even for a party of 7 like they are, taking on 4 ancient dragons would be near impossible even at lvl 20.

Pretty sure Keyleth isn't gay. I think she just has pretty low self-esteem so she gets very embarrassed when she gets a compliment like that.

Vex and Vax are both bi and while Keyleth’s sexuality isn’t confirmed, she is confirmed to not be straight, so yes it is entirely likely that she’s crushing on Vex.

This might have been just according to the fandom wiki but I think Keyleth is demisexual. I know the twins are bi, Grog, Percy and Pike are straight, and Scanlan is just horny for everyone and everything.

It's complicated. All Marisha has said is that Keyleth has a fascination with Vex. That could mean so many things.

Yeah Vox Machina os basically just a bunch of disaster bisexuals. Except (in the campaign) Scanlan (I like them changing him for the show) and Grog.
