The Red Hot Chili Peppers are as old as I am, 38, and they've been a part of my existence since I first discovered them in 1987 when they appeared in an obscure move called 'Tough Guys,' which was in theaters the previous year in 1986, but I didn't see it until it was on TV in '87 on HBO. Since their beginnings, the Peppers have fused Funk, Punk, R&B, and Hip Hop into their music. They've mixed many other genres as well, but that was the main start of their sound. Up until the mid-90's, singer Anthony Kiedis mostly rapped. He felt like he was getting into a rut, so Anthony changed things up, took singing lessons, and has been switching it up ever since between rapping and singing, though he does more singing than rapping, sadly, as he's one of the best rappers of all-time. Currently, the lineup that made that 2002 classic, 'Can't Stop,' are in the studio working on a brand new album. Hopefully this year, or next, we'll see its release. So, Jojo, since I'm one of the longest and most diehard fans of the Peppers, I'm going to go ahead and list 12 songs, one from each of their albums in total, plus a rare non-album single that doesn't get enough praise. I hope you'll take this music journey I'm about to send you on. I sincerely don't care if you do a video for any of these songs, but I hope you'll go listen to them on your own time, then come let me know what you think, all right? By the way, these are all my favorite tracks from each record. 12. Get Up And Jump - 1984 - Album: Red Hot Chili Peppers 11. Hollywood (Africa) - 1985 - Album: Freaky Styley 10. Fight Like A Brave - 1987 - Album: Uplift Mofo Party Plan 09. Taste The Pain - 1989 - Album: Mother's Milk 08. Show Me Your Soul - 1990 - Album: Pretty Woman Soundtrack 07. Breaking The Girl - 1991 - Album: Blood Sugar Sex Magick (Has a killer solo that uses metal objects found in a junkyard) 06. Warped - 1995 - Album: One Hot Minute 05. This Velvet Glove - 1999 - Album: Californication 04. Warm Tape - 2002 - Album: By The Way 03. Warlocks - 2006 - Album: Stadium Arcadium 02. Brendan's Death Song - 2011 - Album: By The Way 01. Dark Necessities - 2016 - Album: The Getaway Enjoy, JoJo. And hey, tell Niah she's missed. I hope she comes back to her channel eventually.

"Can't stop the Spirits when they need you, This life is more than just a readthrough..." that ending right there has guided me in my life. i am SO glad you are giving the RHCP a chance now... they get a bad rap due to being Icons of the alt scene, and Icons are usually underrated because everyone claims they are overrated... paradoxically. lol RHCP is, to me, enlightened fun. the videos are clever and often funny, and always beautiful. the beats are always funky (Long Live Flea!) and the messages will help anyone in growing up well, even after one is an adult.

I’ll address some of the questions you posed. Their fan base comes from fans of many different genres as does their music. They started off in the early 1980s as a punk/funk/rap band that was produced by George Clinton aka P-Funk then later incorporated more rock into the mix. Legendary producer Rick Rueben (Def Jam) started producing them in the early 90s and their sound evolved again. There are many different documentaries on RHCP so you could dig deep into this for weeks if you wanted. Blood Sugar Sex Magic is one of my all time favorite albums.

They have sooo many different types of songs but their sound is so original you can always tell its them from the first guitar riff. Im going to see them in concert in 2 weeks!! I recommend checking out their song 'by the way' if you havent already and also their song 'give it away'. They have such an array of music. Different styles, yet they have their own unique flavor. I grew up on their music. By The Way was what the one that got me back into them as a teen. The whole Stadium Arcadium album was a real banger. Their early stuff is definitely an acquired taste. But I love all their music. Glad you enjoyed!!!

Anthony Kiedis (vocals) of the Red Hot Chili Peppers is a founding member of the band he joined around 1983 w/ his friend, bassist Michael "Flea" Balzary... both are still in the band today and working on new music... Chad Smith (drums) joined in 1989 along w/ guitarist John Frusciante (Founding guitarist Hillel Slovak died in 1988 from a heroin OD)... Frusciante recently returned to the band for their next upcoming record.

They are really hard to pin down. That's one of the many reasons we love them. :) wiki: The Red Hot Chili Peppers are an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1983. Their music incorporates elements of alternative rock, funk, punk rock and psychedelic rock. The band consists of vocalist Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, drummer Chad Smith, and guitarist John Frusciante. With over 80 million records sold worldwide, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are one of the best-selling bands of all time. They are the most successful band in the history of alternative rock, with the records for most number-one singles, most cumulative weeks at number one and most top-ten songs on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. They have won six Grammy Awards, and in 2012 were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The singer Anthony Kiedis started out rapping. He started singing more and more as their career progressed.. Some of my favorite Chili Peppers songs are, personally, "Hump De Bump", "Aroud The World", "Aeroplane", and "American Ghost Dance". All very funky. Definitely give them a listen.

Anthony Kiedis is still the lead singer for the RHCP. They recently added their old guitarist, John Frusciante, back into the band after several years AND dropped a new album a couple days ago. He's the guitarist heard on this track.

The first song I heard of theirs “Power of Equality” while riding around in a car in the mountains of Virginia, we listened to BSSM album. I immediately went out and bought it. Best rap/ funk combo on that album “Suck My Kiss.” Also like “Breaking the Girl” as a slower tune. They did an amazing covers of The Ohio Players “Love Rollercoaster” as well as Stevie Wonder’s “Higher Ground.”
