This week I made a set of three nesting trays with offset handles. I built the prototype about a year ago, but wanted to dial them before making plans. Free plans are now available at shapertools.com/r/alm

Man, woodworking has really evolved! Love to see new stuff like this!
Michael , you are a cut above the rest... 😏 As the french would say... "Tray bons !!" 😌 😎👍☘🍺
Walnut makes everything looks beautiful. Never thought I'd say that about trays 😐🤣. That ombre style looks awesome too
For some reason the Minecraft Villager "Hmmm." at 15:31 really cracked me up!
It's funny how the translated title just says " German" for me^^

beautiful work as always (not a woodworker (yet) just a regular craftsperson), what a joy it must be to fill your home with well designed, carefully made everyday things!
Your videos are great. Really like how you even show your missteps and how you correct them. Lots of helpful tips for the origin
Super cute 🥰 and very good gift for my father. Thank you for giving the plans!
Another work of art from a skilled craftsman. They turned out beautifully! 😍
Great work on the nesting of trays Michael! Thanks for sharing with us!💖👌👍😎JP
These are so nice. I’m always looking for gifts to make friends /family, but I want these for myself! Best get busy.
That's a cool project. Not sure whether I could pull that off without a nervous breakdown, but I will add it to my list! Thanks for sharing!
Only thing I’d do differently is have the middle handle set on the outermost/bottom tray, and the edge handles on the inner trays. That’s because picking up by the middle set is most ‘natural’ and so someone coming to the trays together would get all the trays. That’s just a preference though. Really love the look.

That was a realy pretty looking finished product. Really enjoyed the whole process, but your attention to detail and design is noteworthy.
Very nicely done. The origin is intriguing.
Very elegant set of trays!
This is GOLD, I will try this though with a dovetail jig. Cheers, I'll keep an eye on what you're up to. Cheers from Downunder
Dang Michael, this one was quite a bit involved. The Origin is seriously crazy, the fact that it seems like they nailed both the function and the user experience on the first model is mindblowing
Fantastic, Michael! They look sweet! 😃 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Absolutely beautiful! This turned out so well. Great job 👍

Beautiful work, nice job.
really cool design. I like it a lot.
Wow, this is awesome. Really wanting to get a Shaper Origin eventually. Costs a lot, but the capability in such a small package seems fantastic.
love it... I like that with the Origin you don't need a ton of space like a traditional CNC. Perfect for smaller shops.

Nice set of trays they look great. Amazing style and look. I was going to tell you I like the drill set up I do the same but instead of using the tape and my hands I slide a ball bearing disc on it makes it easy in the hands 🙌🏼 or fingers
I loved the original ones but these are that much nicer. That solid wood really steps it up

Incredible! idk that with my (nothing) skills I'll be doing this one myself, but they look Amazing!
Yes please do a video on the Shaper Origin table with mortise and tenon and floating tennons like festool domino. Thanks for this wonderful video
Very nice video! I really like that you showed that you made some mistakes and how you fixed them. I am considering getting a Shaper Origin, your video was very helpful. I also found it interesting that the Shaper Origin does not replace other tools like the table saw, but it allows one to things that you can't do with conventional power tools.
These are awesome. I love the piston fit. But I don’t know that I would trust myself. It would be awesome if you check back in a few months to let us know if the piston fit was still as smooth with wood movement. Would love more shaper origin projects
Dang this is super cool!
incredible!
At 15:32 you make the perfect Minecraft villager sound... anyway this is a super cool design
Most definitely interested in learning more about Origin. Nifty video & project, too. Thank you.

Nice 👍🏻
Really great design and a great video as well. Really like the 'piston fit' on these as well. Has weather or humidity changes messed up the piston fit?
Not a fan of machines persay, but awesome idea and build, going to have to give it a go by hand and see how I fare. Have to give big props for not needing to "cry" for attention and for putting your "mark" where it should be, small, out of the way, not being intrusive/taking away from the piece.
Awesome
Dope
Love them and the contrasting woods. Any worry about the section of the handle that’s the attachment point to the tray being a pretty week grain direction?
Those look great, Michael. Of course, at the moment of truth you know they would fit because you did a dry fit first. (you did do a dry fit, didn't you - lol) Take care. Bill
Great execution. I talked myself out of a Shaper Origin a month or two ago, but now I’m back on the fence…
No your the best
Amazing, what finish did you use?
Is the middle tray red and white oak? The sides with the handles look like whit oak while the long pieces look like red oak
These trays are great! I'm not a woodworker but I really enjoy watching your videos. I was wondering if you are selling these trays. If you are not I was wondering if I could special order one.
@MichaelAlm
2 жыл бұрын
Hey Michael, Thank you! I still have the trays, feel free to send me an email 👍www.almfab.com/about (Contact form is at the bottom of the page)
If management from Shaper are watching the comments PLEASE open up to the rest of the world. Global population of woodworkers want what you’ve got.
For some reason the stop dado is not consistent from piece to piece. The distance from the edge varies and on the smallest, inner tray, there is not enough material left for me to feel secure in the fact that the tray bottom won't eventually fall out.
It's a real shame that you can't get the plans unless you sell your personal information to Shaper and sign up for their mailing list... Guess I'll just come up with my own plans. Nice build
I'm all for CNC...in fact, I have two (a home made 2x2 foot, and a 4x8 foot)...but I don't see how this project was made easier using this particular tool. It seems like more work?
When the temperature and humidity changed did those no longer fit together?
Is there a way to round the interior of the joints?
This looks interesting right from thumbnail, challenging .......
Curious why you didn't use the Workstation to cut the pieces out?
only one question: Origin is not even used in their channel together with a dust mask. Have you had such a bad experience with the Origin dust extractor that you wear a mask? (Sorry for my bad English..)
@MichaelAlm
3 жыл бұрын
I’m really sensitive to saw dust. I have sinus issues so I don’t take any chances.
I would like to purchase 3 sets for Christmas presents. do you sell these?
Michael, is the Shaper Origin a replacement for a CNC or an addition to it?
@MichaelAlm
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Dani, That really depends on how you want to use it. I make a lot of one-off pieces, and it does what I need from a CNC in my shop. If you're producing lots of products that are exactly the same, a traditional CNC is the way to go.
What kind of table saw is that?
💯👏👏👏👍
I notice you seemed very specific in calling it “Origin” instead of the just “The Shaper” like I’ve normally heard it referred to. I wonder if this is a sign of another product coming from Shaper.
@MichaelAlm
3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, "Shaper's" the company, and "Origin" is the tool. They also have "Workstation," and I imagine more products are in the works as well. I think it became known as Shaper because of the original kickstarter, and it's just what people call it now. 🤷🏼♂️
Did you make that branding iron yourself?
