I personally think the amazing thing here is not only did they do such a masterful job with the arrangement and everything, but they managed to keep the original waltz bounce in there without it feeling like a waltz. That's impressive.

Mostly it's just using Kirstin's musical theater background. Overt drama set to music. Big theatrical motions, makeup, etc.

Nope. The Sound of Music was one of my favorites growing up, even had a friend who was in a local theater production, so we used to sing all the songs together - definitely the original lyrics!

Hey didn't change the lyrics. In the movie, there was a storm at night and they all ended up in Julie Andrews (the nanny at the time) room. She / they sang the song of their favorite things to get their minds off the thunder. Christmas was mentioned before the song started. As far as Kirsty getting the lead, I believe heir last original song "be my eyes" was hers (lead) as well. I love her lead on that as well.

You asked about the lyrics and people have already answered that so I won't repeat it but on the same vein, Something that we've noticed Pentatonix does is find songs that aren't Christmas songs yet the lyrics fit with Christmas and they put it on their Christmas albums. Fans have been talking about how they take a non-Christmas song, Put it on a Christmas album, and it becomes a Christmas song! I was able to watch the live viewing party after the video premiered and somebody asked a question about how they pick the songs for their Christmas albums and Scott said he has a list on his phone and every time he hears or thinks of a song that he thinks would fit for Christmas he adds it to that list. He said he has hundreds of songs on it now and they go over the list and pick songs that they like and give them a listen and see what they think they could do with it. They thought the way their arrangement sounded that it fit a steampunk theme and their designer, Candice, slayed it with the costumes and makeup!. They were really excited about the choreography because they said they learned it like three minutes before they had to record and they found it really fun and were excited to discover that they could learn it that fast and actually do it! When you watch The Sing-Off you'll realize they've come a long ways with their dancing and I'm as proud of them as they are of themselves! They used to always say "we're NOT good dancers!" But they've managed to learn new skills and I'm glad they did because we get theatrical pieces like this that are just so entertaining! I'm so glad you were able to react to this and post it! it's a Christmas miracle!

Great reaction Stop and rewind as many times needed... this is the point of a first reaction isn't it? They did some goods choreographies when they were challenged at the Sing Off, and almost never since... Kirstie is stunning in this one, with Matt providing a great kind of "Vals" vibe on the bass Great arrangement once again See you in the next one

I thought they were channeling Nightmare Before Christmas but I read elsewhere that the director was going for a steam punk vibe. It works.

It's almost a spoof. Julie Andrew's sings to the Von Trapp kids to let them know how to be happy when scared. This is a great version of this song. Take away the creepy makeup and atmosphere and put in a sweet sugary scene and you'd have the Sing Julie Andrews did. The lyrics are the same. The scenery is different.

Mad Hatter type vibe and the lyrics are the original from Sound of Music. Utterly slaying it!

This was such a fun video and such a spooky theatrical theme I loved it and the makeup, the outfits, the set everything and they all sounded incredible as they always do. No the lyrics are the same as the original

No change of words from the original track from Sound of Music. Think Julie Andrews. This version is just a Pentatonix take. So cool. Kirsten rocks.

For another Kirstie lead, check out Be My Eyes. She also wrote that song. She's really finally coming into her own, and it's nice to see. The solo album she did a couple of years ago is also really entertaining if you like her voice. I don't think they changed any lyrics. I used to sing this song in junior high choir. I can't remember all the lyrics, but most of them seem familiar.
