For the record the Cops and Council are wrong under US Constitution Article 1 section 6 paragraph 1 which is the Speech and Debate Privilege Immunity. Not really. They have every right to tell the police what the woman said. It's the responsibility of the police to investigate and act on any crime that comes out of that investigation. Imagine the other members complaining to police that she dunked her biscuit in her tea. If the police then arrested her for that it's the police at fault, not the triggered individual that is offended by dunking.

They did get away with it. They will not have to pay the settlement out of their own pockets (the taxpayers will). No cop has been criminally charged here. They wanted to teach this politician a lesson, they broke federal law in order to do it, and the feds don't care, so they haven't prosecuted them. So the cops get off scott-free. Body cams are a department policy, most states do not have it in law that an officer needs to have a body cam.

Update: a federal judge stripped all offcicers of immunity and awarded summary damages. More punitive damages are forthcoming. The cops you see soon won't have a penny to their name in the end. By the way, a summary basically means the defendants dont have a prayer to fight damages.
