OFFICER REACTS: They Scrapped My Cruise Ship!
With the sad pictures circulating of my favourite cruise ship now scrapped, I take a look back at whats been happening to ships around the world including two of my earliest ships and the Carnival Fantasy class ships. I break down the beaching videos and discuss what will happen to all the materials that make up a 260m cruise ship.

Thank you for explaining all of this! I’m so sorry about the loss of your favorite ship 😢
That was awesome! I really enjoy your videos that cover information no other channel covers. Your perspective is fascinating. I have many fond memories of the Crown Princess . . .
That is so heartbreaking. Feel for you all. Yes to merchandise and yes to instagram. Thanks so much for posting these. Although I don't see all of them the ones I do see I really enjoy x
Very great video and explanation ... so sad to see the old ships torn apart !!!
That's facinating! Sad, but wow! So looking forward to a return to cruising!
Thanks so much for your channel. It is very very sad,but of course, with your knowledge and experience you are able to explain what is going on.
I love the explanations of the clips. So interesting. Thanks
Keep it up. I like watching an officer’s perspective on these ships.
Brilliant vlog Alfie. So sad to see all those cruise ships being scrapped. Deffo do some merchant, t-shirt, mugs etc. Keep these videos coming
Great content, although very sad, but I found it very interesting that they actually beach the ships. I am glad that at least they recycle the steel and many of the furnishings. As always, your professional take on this and your narration style are very much appreciated.
Thanks for posting.
Very interesting! Thank you for sharing!!!
So sad to see ships getting scrapped. I’m missing cruising. Thank you for your videos.
Hi Alfie. Great Vlog. Very interesting and informative. A good watch. See you on your next Vlog. Take care.
Thanks Alfie, enjoyed your commentary on blow torch beach although a very sad end to great ships.
such great memories on pearl and jewel . yes to instagram and merchandise and thankyou for this video
My wife and I love cruising. Three of the ships that we have traveled on are in the scrap yards. It is sad to see.
That must be really hard to see happening, for you and all the other long term crew and staff members of our ships. Wow 1988 for Pacific Pearl - I feel honoured to have been able to cruise on her twice! She Did really well to have still been in service that long. Thank you for your videos!
I loved the Pearl, she was our second ever cruise ship back in 2011. It was nice to bump in to her again in 2019 in the Baltic when she was cruising as Columbus.
Very sad but very well done video, nice to see from a professionals perspective! The Fantasy was my very first cruise out of Mobile Alabama
Very interesting and very educational video. Watching from Los Angeles, CA Thank you. Steve Miller
That was more emotional than I expected. I’ve sailed on the two Pullmanturs that showed up along with yours and all I can say is: ouch
I shed a few tears when I saw the beaching of the Fantasy. I took 2 cruises on her, as well as several cruises on other fantasy class ships (I love the smaller ships). Nice sunset. Thanks
I really see the sadness in your face, Alfie. I am so sorry for all of the lost memories.
This was very sad. These ships aren't even old. It brings tears to my eyes. These really are bad times. Your channel is very interesting. ❤️
Pacif Jewel - a favourite of mine as she sailed out of Melbourne for a few years. Thanks for sharing everything.

I don't think you've ever sailed her
I love your logo(the part with the ship) so a t-shirt with that on it with a nice “water” blue background would be cool! It would keep me thinking and dreaming of getting back to cruising until that time came.

Hello, I am new to your channel, have subscribed and enjoying it. I will be at OPT, Sydney, Australia, this coming Monday to welcome back Pacific Explorer...so excited to be there! I have just gone through my bag of past cruise ship info, looking at my lanyards...Dawn is one of them and I have cruised on the Pearl too...very sad to watch what happens when a ship is scrapped...looking forward to fun cruising times ahead. Thank you for your efforts in putting your videos together.
Very interesting! Thank you for explaining. Yes, I’d buy that shirt.
Hi Alfie Sad video when any ship ends its days in the scrapyard. Your looking good and love your videos. Stay safe Warm regards Richard
Im glad you you've mentioned the jewel, she was my favourite

Very interesting video. I like it. I didn’t know they were driven in instead of towed in. Thank you.
I have worked on both vessel's it's sad to watch such a video. Anyway congrats for explaining the maneuvers.
well Alfie another great insight to the cruising industry sad to see them go we have been on the jewel couple of times , we had our 30th wedding anniversary on jewel , but there will be new ships to take there place can't wait to see some tee shirts , maybe same shirt different ship lol take care kev and ros in oz
So sad to see the P&O Australia Pacific Pearl and Pacific Jewel being scrapped 🥲 The Five Ship Extravaganza, sailing alongside each other into Sydney will be one of my most wonderful cruising memories ever ❤️ 🛳

@@SandyToes75 it was so incredible. All the ships alongside each other, extremely close and at quite a speed snd then as if that wasn’t enough we had pods of dolphins swimming between the bows of the ships ❤️ it really was so very special and something I’ll always treasure being a part of.
Yes, SSDD merch - shirt, travel mug, ball cap perhaps. And Yes to Instagram. Thanks as always for your content!
Funny that they had the radar running, sorry for your loss!
Pacific Jewel, fond memories. Our first ever cruise on her.

It seems REALLY wasteful to scrap anything modern with efficient power plants , while older vessels keep cruising , it’s a weird economic environment. I’m sure it’s powertrip’ d by globalists entities , eventually ya’ll will certainly be hammered by a groomed event , for not only profit , but future fiscal enslavement of world pop

Went on the ‘Pearl’ when it was part of the P&O U.K. fleet and was then known as Arcadia in 2000. It also had a life after P&O U.K. as the now defunct P&O brand, Ocean Village, before moving on to P&O Australia.

P&O Arcadia took my family from being cruising virgins, to being cruising nuts. Great ship and great crew. Olphy and Didi were our MDR waiters. Such professionals, where every meal was personally and individually served. Nothing pre-plated in those days. Happy memories.
My husband and I cruised on the Carnival Fantasy MANY years ago! Still have souvenirs from that trip!
😰😭😭😭😭😭😔So sad! Thank you for sharing!
Yes, it's sad to see how 2020 changed the cruise industry. Thanks for sharing for I haven't been following up on the scrap yard of cruise ship. Also, you should do an Instagram page.
My first ever cruise was on Pacific Jewel in 2010, but the Perl was my favourite. Just the right size and a great layout. It is sad to see them gone. Let's hope P&O Australia's new ships are as good. Love your content Alfie would happily buy some same ship different day merch.

I went on the Pacific Jewel twice on june 2017 and 18. Gosh, the memories i made on the ship are amazing, the first was from Sydney to Brisbane and port Douglas and the second was from Auckland NZ to Fiji, Samoa and Tonga.
Thank You.I think we sailed together on Coral or Island Princess.Stay well and keep up the great job
Thanks Mate 👍
It IS so sad to see your ship scrapped. I have worked on many Frigates in Chatham Dockyard, including H.M.S. Plymouth who was bombed in the Falklands, I went on Sea Trials on her and moored up alongside the Sheffield at Pompey, for the weekend, just before the war. We had to board her to get ashore! At least she went out Fighting!! All my ships are now sadly gone! :-( Pictures and Videos of them are priceless now!!
Thank you 👍
Nice video chief, i worked on Carnival Imagination for a contract, LA as homeport, and additional two Fantasy class ships-Paradise and Fascination, i like the latter most and would say that small cruise ships have different aura compared with the new ones, made in and for different times , also i worked for Carnival UK but Cunard, i was on Queen Elizabeth, and last was working for Royal Caribbean on Oasis class, hopefully things will move on...stripes with white in between...fair winds and following seas Mate :)
I used to work for a cruise line. This is actually painful to watch, just hurts my heart. I can’t imagine what this must be like for you. I’m about to cry...😢
The Pearl was the first ship my wife and I went on when we started cruising again. Sad to see her go.
Your vlogs are so informative and interesting. Thank you. I thought your suggestion of posting pictures/updates on Instagram a good idea!

I used to work on the QE2, it was a sad day when she was decommissioned. In all the vessels I worked (there were 12), she was my favourite for a multitude of reasons.
Thanks, the Princess Star was my 1st cruise!!! So sad to see a generation of cruise ships gone... I'm sharing this video with my cruise mate and I'm sure she will subscribe. 😊👍

The Captain's Club!!! We spent many an evening in that bar when it was Columbus. Nice to see they left my chair behind exactly where we used to sit. I actually still have the vlogs to edit from my time on board
I was on the the ship when it was the Star Princess and loved it 🛳❤️
I remember celebrating with thousands of other people at Circular Quay in Sydney on the day Pacific Jewel officially joined P&O Australia's fleet! What a party that was! She was a beautiful ship.
I see you got yourself a nice portrait with the shin as /in the background. The Carnival Imagination was my. first ship. I worked as a photographer since 2008 till 2010. Then returned in 2015-2016 for one contract and two months, then I left.
My father served on the Yorktown when he was in the Navy. When he retired in Charleston SC, his ship retired there as a museum. It was so nice to go back and visit it.
The Fantasy and the Imagination were 2 of my first cruises and made me love traveling the ocean! Kinda sad to see them both beached.

Spare a thought for those who actually built these ships and the work they put into them.
The old Crown & Regal, they had nice Pizzarias on them. I worked on them in Alaska - long ago. 1990s in Seward. Most of the old ships I worked with are long gone by the cutters torch. Original Island - Pacific - Sea Princess - Sky - the old Dawn & Fair - Star.

Amazing work/crew history! The two sets of "twins" were my favorite ships to sail aboard as a passenger. Dawn/Fair Princess & Pacific/Island Princess. Loved that Dawn/Fair had three aft pools. Loved the late '60's Euro decor of Pacific/Island Princess. In all due respect, I miss the Princess Cruises of the late '80's & early '90's, as under P&O ownership. The British & Italian influence gave Princess a distinct character. Captain Romano & Cesare Ditel were some of my favorites.
Just found your channel and subscribed, I love the cruise ship world. Regards, Chris.

Jimmyjewels. Spot on James! I worked for Carnival many years ago and actually met my wife aboard the Celebration. Many say that it is “just a ship”, but it is indeed a lady with a soul to those of us who came to know these ships and to have them become significant to our lives. It is very much heartbreaking to see and is like a loved one in some ways. Thank you for understanding and for putting as you did. BTW, we visited Ireland two years ago and absolutely fell in love with beautiful Galway as we did with Ireland and her people. Cannot wait to visit again. Hope you are surviving through these tough times and the pandemic. All the best! Cheers!
After this video I actually almost felt tears wanting to come out of my eyes
Feeling your pain, I worked on The Jewel as Crown Princess in '92, as someone mentioned she had the best crew bar I ever saw. I worked on The Pearl as Star Princess in '93. The Star Princess had the best energy of any ship I ever worked on, she was special. It was sad to see this, but really appreciated, thanks.

Ah I remember her as the Crown Princess my first ever cruise and had an amazing time, yes the bar staff were incredible, never ever forgot our names or what we drank. Happy days 😊
Thanks, great but sad video. I sailed on a few of the ships in the video but unfortunately not the Columbus. While I live in the US I was planning to travel to England and sail on the CMV Columbus but the virus changed everything. I look forward to getting back onboard a cruise ship soon! I usually go on 3 or 4 cruises a year and I miss being on a ship! I would buy some products - coffee mugs, shirts, etc.
Great but oh so sad! Having cruised for many years, I have cruised on these ships now scrapped. Personally not my favourites but still very sad to see them being carved up. The scrap yard looked like unorganised chaos and I thought the line of approach was off long before you said so! Now, theses ships will live on in thousands of peoples videos and pictures. Memories only fade away with the people that experienced them. Ships are now too big and seem like cattle processing centres. I used to enjoy the explorer type cruises with 500 - 1200 passengers. Lets hope things turn around pretty quickly and cruise companies begin to regret their hasty scrapping plans!!
I've been cruising for 32 years, so it's sad to see many of the ships that were new around that time being scrapped at the breakers(Alang & Aliaga). I sailed aboard sister ship Pacific Dawn when she was the brand new Regal Princess, fresh from the ship yard in Italy(Fincantieri?). Each ship is a unique individual with a heart & soul all her own, even amongst ships in a series. I cried when the former Dawn/Fair Princess & original Pacific/Island Princess were scrapped. These ships all brought years of happiness , romance, & new friendships to their passengers & crew. My gratitude to all the hard working crew I've sailed with is Eternal.
These were my favorite ships too. I went on this ship for my bd, I was in 2nd grade at this time. I cannot believe I had to see one of my favorite ships have been scheduled to be scrapped. Now I’m in 5th grade about to graduate elementary. I will never forget this ship
Carnival, Costa and Pullmantur could've realised substantially more in proceeds - possibly up to double - from the sale of the ships to scrapyards at Alang or Chittagong but due to the appalling safety record at some of these plots, they did the right thing in disposing of them at Aliaga, Turkey where deaths are of an order of magnitude less than in India, Pakistan or Bangladesh. Another point of interest - ships are beached at Alang etc. but "landed" at Aliaga where in lieu of beaches, the scrapyards have concrete slipways. Great videos, thank you for posting.
I feel your pain. The last ship I worked on was scrapped a few years ago after a 60 year life. Its all rebar and fence posts now but its hard to see them get chopped up after spending years on them.
My sister did have a cruise on Pacific Jewel back in 2017 and the two Pulmantur ships were former Royal Caribbean Monarch and Sovereign it is sad to see the Pacific Jewel and Pearl go they were very much loved ships too they still get a mention nowadays and I would love to see some merchandise from your channel too
I feel your pain, I’m ex RN Petty officer, I saw a number of my old ships Type 42s scrapped in Turkey at this scrap yard. Never easy to see, I nearly joined the cruise line business after I left the RN. But I decided on RAN. Love watching your vloggs
Cruised on the Regal Princess in 2000 which became the Pacific Dawn until 2020. Sister ship to the Pacific Jewel. Lovely ships!
I will follow you on IG, love your videos. I have been a passanger on 2 of those Carnival ships, tragic and sad 😢 as to where they ended up, all due to a pandemic
We had two lovely cruises on the Columbus in 2017 and 2019. We will miss her terribly. Such a sad sight.

This just randomly popped up in my feed, however pacific jewel was my first ever cruise. I had been on one every year since that cruise until 2020
I sailed on the Pacific Explorer back in 2001 when it was the Dawn Princess! Beautiful ship then.. and I am sure it still is now! Also, the Pacific Jewel when it was Crown Princess was my parents first anniversary cruise together in ‘91❤
I have a Carnival Imagination sweater from 5 years ago and a Carnival Inspiration Folio card from my last cruise just 18 months ago.
I was on the Crown Princess in her inaugural year, 1990. Feeling very sad. She was one of the largest at that time.
My first and second cruise was on the jewel and my third was on the pearl where i met danny black for the first time. Sad to see both those ships being scrapped.
I was working on the Canberra in the 70s for 2 of her world cruises as a bell boy and out in Australia working on Arcadia as a bedroom steward cruising the Fiji Ilands etc . really good times
This makes me so said I have sailed on all the fantasy class ships of Carnival
My first cruise was on Fantasy out of Miami when she was only a couple years old. Recently I came across some photos from onboard, and it's hard to imagine it's gone.
So sad to see them scrapped
Was on Columbus when she was Arcadia for P & O.after she was Star and the Ocean Village before she went to Australia. The Bar was called The Oval when it was Arcadia.I remember Capt Mike Carr who I cruised with numerous times saying she was such a well built ship, solid
Great content
Oh pacific pearl! The memories, first ship I worked on and jewel was my last 6 years later, of the memories, and amazing friends in 6 years with pno
Sailed on both Star Princess and Crown Princess. Great memories.
We sailed on both jewel and the pearl when they were Ocean Village 1&2 .Our first ever cruise was on OV2 (jewel) and we find it upsetting to see their final destination. I can’t imaging how you feel .
So sad to see the Original Star Princess scraped. Sailed on her a few times. Also sad to see both the Original Crown and Regal Princess also scraped. Sailed on both many times. Made many great friends on them. Now there are no more Sitmar ships left.
I have been off ships over 20 years, and it still guts me seeing my first ship, the old NCL M/S Sunward heading off the the scrappers. The Norway still stings as well. I know what you are feeling. I still think the cruise lines might be making a big mistake. I think part of the problem with the rash of sickness BEFORE Covid is the difficulty in cleaning these massive ships in the few hours they have between debarkation and embarkation before starting over again. It was always organized chaos of midsize ships of this size getting cleaned up for the next cruise, these floating hotels are on another level.
Very interesting.
The Columbus was on Tilbury landing stage all of last year I went past it on the tug many times, she looked nearly that bad on the port side before she left the Thames!!!! Amazing how fast they go down hill when there is not a full time crew keeping them pretty.
