How to remove the plastic cup ? I am not able to do it at all. My tension knob is loose and I cant tighten it.

Is it possible to take that top plate off the mechanism and swap it with another?

I guess not bro :( In normal cases the entire Mechanism has to be replaced. Maybe in Office chair repair shops replacement knobs will be available, but due to the large bolt having a raised ridge/end, past which the hex nut cannot travel threads resulting in it being un-removable, its impossible to remove it without cutting the raised ridge part of the bolt. Once the bolt is cut, you can remove the Hex Nut from the bolt and remove the spring. Install a new Bolt and a new tension knob. U need tp take the mechanism to a workshop to get the bolt cut with a wheel saw and buy a new tension knob at some office chair store (if they allow selling spare parts that is). Only then it is possible to fix this by yourself. the video shown here has either already cut bolt or came this way (dangerous). The reason OEMs dont manufacture the Tension Spring part in a removed way is because - if u loosen up the tension enough the nut and spring will shoot out violently due to the tension stored in the spring. The raised ridge acts as a stopper to avoid such accidents.
