Why easy if you can do it complicated! kzread.info/dash/bejne/lIaKvNaNqcKxmag.html First, DON'T REMOVE the chair top, put the chair on it's side or upside down, then get a pipe wrench onto the stainless steel part of the cylinder and pry the friction loose. You my need an extension on the wrench handle, for extra leverage. If you have another pair of hands to stabilize the top, even better. Once loose, the top will come right off. Now you can deal with the cylinder replacement. For that there's a different method also, if you're only replacing the stainless steel part and push rod. BTW, there are different types of styles to activate the cylinder: center, side and cable. Make sure you get the correct one. Before you try any of this, squirt a little WD40 onto the stainless steel part, where it meets the base. Now operate the lift mechanism a few times up and down. If you're lucky it might starts to work again.
