Off the Beaten Path: HIDDEN Monument Near Gettysburg | Monuments Monday | Get That Man Pt. 1

Ойын-сауық

On today’s episode of Monuments Monday, ACHS Historian Tim Smith has a different kind of monument story for you! Join Tim as he travels off the beaten path to visit a monument hidden in plain sight just 20 minutes from the heart of Gettysburg in the Michaux State Forest along the Lincoln Highway (Route 30).
In Part 1, Tim provides some background leading up to the story of an almost 100-year-old bank holdup and police chase that spanned across the entirety of Adams County, PA. Don’t miss next week’s episode in which Tim delves into the specifics of this nearly 100 year old crime, including the tragic death of Francis L. Haley, a young member of the Pennsylvania State Police. Haley’s last words, “I’m shot, get that man,” became a rallying cry for the state police and eventually resulted in the apprehension of the criminal responsible for Haley’s death.
The monument to Francis L. Haley is located in Michaux State Park. For more information about the park, visit: tinyurl.com/54dhy8rr.
P.S. Whoops! Our pictures got a little ahead of us when Tim was talking about the Totem Pole and Jean Stapleton. Sorry about that!

Tim, how about a future program on the Corporal William Rihl monument in Greencastle, Pa. with it's tie in to Battle of Gtysburg.

Thanks Tim . Had no idea it would be a monument to a State Trooper. Had a good back ground story on the Tavern. So your at the County Line of Adams and Franklin Counties. You did some serious digging on this one. Thanks for sharing! 💯👍👊
