Off Roading on Red Rocks in Hog Canyon, Utah | On the Trail

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We're back out in the desert southwest on one of the best OHV trails in Utah, off roading on red rocks in Hog Canyon. This OHV trail system located just outside of Kanab, Utah and just over the border from Arizona offers a ton of trails ranging from easy to difficult. Of course, since we came out with three fully-equipped Jeeps, we went for the hard stuff.

Host Mel Wade of Evo Manufacturing has once again brought out his daughter Harley Wade of Off Road Evolution and Driving Line’s own Randy Wilcox to take on the trails with him. They’ve brought out the same three fully-built Jeeps as last time, though now they’ll really be putting them through their paces. Mel brought out his diesel Jeep Gladiator with an Evo Mfg. coilover kit and 42-inch Nitto Trail Grapplers, Randy went in a Jeep Wrangler JK with an Evo Mfg. long-arm coilover kit and 40-inch Trail Grapplers and Harley took out her Jeep Wrangler JL with an Evo Mfg. long-arm coilover kit and 37-inch Trail Grapplers.
The red rock canyons and trails of Utah are some of the most picturesque places you can go wheeling, and Hog Canyon offers some trails that are a little less well-worn than those of Moab and other more popular locations. Just because this trail system isn’t as famous doesn’t mean that it’s bad. Hog Canyon is one of the best little known trails and red rock Jeep trails in Utah. It really is one of the best Utah off road trails and red rock off road trails.

Hey Mel, I had the pleasure of meeting you in Texas at Hidden Falls a few years ago. Really enjoyed wheelin with you back then. This video is great, beautiful country. My wife and I just bought a new 21 2dr. Rubicon and we are excited about future off roading trips. We want to get back to Utah soon. Thanks for the great vids, keep up the great work.

Thanks Dennis! We're more referring to the Hog Canyon trail system as a whole and wanted to showcase the unique wheel opportunities accessible from the western trailhead and staging area just north of Kanab. 😎 Still good info for those looking for more details in the comments. Always appreciate the call out from those that are really experienced with the area.

@@DrivingLine I will go up there to check it out. I have a Gladiator coming that's somewhat capable and my son has a raised 4Runner with 33 inch on it. We should find something to explore up there... BTW, Peek-A-Boo is well worth the trip...

Most of what your video highlights is actually Tom's Canyon, the hardest part of Hogs Canyon. At 16:30 you missed the trail and took a bypass. Too bad because it's one of the more challenging sections.

Think a YJ with 33s could handle some of what yall did fine or depends on the part of the area your at?

This area is a big network of trails with a wide range of terrain. Pay attention to the signs and know that those indicating the "Most Difficult" trails are not joking: you'll want a well-built Jeep with a skilled driver at the wheel. Without knowing you and your rig, I can't say definitively, but in general I'd think 37" tires, lockers, etc (and some real skill behind the wheel) are strongly advised. Having said all that, this area has plenty to explore even if you stay off the most rugged trails.
