Off Roading a Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness - Steep climb in a Crosstrek Wilderness!

On November 11th, 2023, MtnRoo Tri-State got the chance to see a 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness off roading with us in the wild during our Camp, Cookout and Cruise Event Benefitting Philabundance Food Bank (we raised over a half ton of food for the hungry and needy).
The Crosstrek Wilderness with moonroof and Harman Kardon audio pkg was entirely stock, including the fully inflated tires.
Watch the Crosstrek Wilderness on the trails, in the sand pits, and on the rutted climbs! If you ever get a chance to take a Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness Off Road, I highly suggest you take advantage of that and give it a try!!!

    Ugh I love the orange a lot. I haven't seen it in daylight yet but it looks cool. Wish I could have that color on the Forester Wilderness.

    It was a REALLY color impressive in person. It's so hard to tell from the pics and vids. I agree, it would be nice if they expanded the color across the lineup.

    As someone who has off-roaded all modern Subarus(2018 Outback Premium, 2020 Outback XT, 2022 Outback Limited, 2023 Crosstrek base, 2023 Ascent Limited, 2023 Outback Premium, 2024 Forester Limited) the Crosstrek has felt the most satisfying off-roading and just so immensely capable and that’s just with a regular Crosstrek! The Forester is actually a bit more capable but for me the Crosstrek just feels so much more toss-able and more playful in the dirt and that’s with the base 2.0 engine!!!which I for one don’t feel like it’s underpowered at all……At the end of the day, all the Subies I off-road tested felt exceptionally off-road capable! The Outback itself felt the most comfortable when desert running!!

    The lower trims and the 2.0 engine are always overshadowed. I would happily buy a base but I like heated seats. The Wilderness seems amazing but unnecessary for most buyers.

    @@mindspinn311 your right, I think the perfect trim is the premium trim because it gives you pretty much everything you need and nothing you don’t, i especially love the dual zone ac and the fully powered drivers seat, the heated seats are also cool, plus in addition to that you could option the premium trim with all the eyesight safety/driving features, a power lift gate(Outback), sunroof and navigation…..

    I think that's due to the fact with the CT being smaller, it feels like you are less likely to flip it over.

    It was all pretty effortless. We tried a different line (wheels turned hard right) on the second run, which slowed it down a bit, but, even so, the system figured it out. We were all very impressed - this is a hill with such deep ruts that it's very difficult for just about anything to do. The vids don't show it well, but, being in the rut puts the driver's side rut "wall" halfway up the side window during part of the climb, with the side of the car a few inches away from the wall. Either way, SOOOO much fun!!!

    You can upgrade it's offroad capabilities by getting a falken wildpeak AT Tires and bigger tire size 235/65/r17 no lift kit needed and just stock wheels. You can get 20% more offroad performance with that.

    Agreed. Absolutely! It would have gripped a lot easier. We could have aired down as well to make things a lot easier. Alas, it was a Subaru owned vehicle, so, we ran it entirely stock, at stock inflation. But, on my personally owned Subie, I ran the Falken Wildpeak AT3W's (what an amazing all around tire) and am currently running the Nitto Ridge Grappler hybrid =mud-terrain/all-terrain tires. And, when I need traction for climbs, mud, sand, or whatever, I definitely air down, and the difference is night and day.

    @@SubaruAmbassadorRobert that also. There are good things about it and inconvenient things as well. The good thing is that with the hitch you can take off the spare much easier than from the top of the car 👍. The bad thing is that if you put the spare tire behind the cargo area your 5 door will obstructed. 🙁 The other thing that I like about your suggestion is (and I didn’t see this coming), putting a spare in the rooftop block the wind when you are driving, specially at the highway. That took off about 3 mpg from my gasoline mileage 😩. Before the spare at the top I was getting around 31mpg now I only get 28mpg.

  • @SubaruAmbassadorRobert

    @SubaruAmbassadorRobert

    @@ericpizarro3084 agreed 100% with all of that. In the end, I migrated mine from the roof to the spare tire carrier to help mitigate some of the other mpg losses from modding my Ascent for off-roading. I have a swing down hitch, so, even with it down, it obstructs loading a bit. The swing gate design is probably the best to accommodate the easiest loading and functionality, but, it's expensive.

    Seriously is any car reliable the days? Pick your favorite vehicle. Now Google search that vehicle for problems. Congrats. Your now "reliable" car just became unreliable. Since I also doubt you have owned one yourself to test this hypothesis you have. So you are spreading hear say. With no actual data to back it up. I thought only boomers spread hear say that's wrong.
