Off Grid Strawbale Homestead in Colorado, $90K
Tony Prendergast from Sunshine Beef shares his custom built offgrid strawbale house. Located in arid dry landscape of western Colorado, the home provides inspiration as to what its like to live with nature. All of the materials for the home came from within 60 miles of the home, minus the steel roof. Total cost for the home including the solar system came to $80,000 .

Straw sounds very attractive but I can help imagine what happens if a rodent gets into your wall and wrecks havoc

Thats a big concern. The strawbale Tony has sits above a tire foundation with a good coat of lime plaster

I live in rural CO as well and can confirm that rodents hate lime. I expect that the native clay/soil would not repel them.
