Amazing timing with this one, Im just getting around to trying to sort our place in Jämtland out. At the very least, we need a solid backup for mains powercuts etc at the moment. Our geothermal pump died last month and we had to run it on the electric backup for about 6 weeks whilst Bravida faffed around fixing it. 9400kr for that month, absolutely insane. We're hoping to get some serious solar going next summer, but currently just insulating the life out of EVERYTHING so we can run on minimal for the rest of the winter... hopefully....

Thanks Ash for the video, I'm with you all the way, I live very much like you and my costs are nearly the same bar the water as mine is from the mains but at €95 a year it's no problems ! I'm running an ecoworthy system which is very efficient. Still no snow here in the Loire unlike you guys but it is chilly ! Great tour of the electrical system and eventually your AGM batteries will peter out but I doubt that you will be disappointed, now that you have found a good lithium alternative. I like the magic Hood to Cap change at 5:00 to see if we would notice 😊

Hi ya bud.. great choice in battery, I bit the bullet and bought FogStar 280ah and it has more storage power than the 4 agm's I had in the van.. Wind is ok bud very noisy and does not produce as much as people think. hydro is the way to go, but will freeze in the winters you have.. See ya when your this way again bud..

Interesting! Is that including everything or just electricity used? I remember when we first looked here just the monthly standing charge was around 3/400 and then kwh used on top of that.

@@ash.pollard Its including everything, except heat and warm-water, that is included in the rent for the apartment I'm currently living in. In other words, the total cost in average to keep the fridge, freezer, lights, stereo, TV, AC, Laptop on 24/7. Ca 60% of the cost is taxes, energy-transportation, measuring-device, etc, and 40% are the energy "delivered" by TIBBER. I'm currently living in Linköping so we are paying Stockholm tariffs (region 3), ei, not so f,,kin´ bad as Malmö (region 4). I guess your situated in region 2, which is cheaper, and cheapest are of course region 1, as long as it snows and rain every now and then up there. No wonder companies like NorthVolt decided to build so far north. What do people in England average in energy cost ?

@@ash.pollard When the winds here on the eastcoast are blowing +4-5 m/sec, the energy cost are for free, and when there's no winds and 40C HOT, and one have to have the AC on 24/7 just to survive, guess what a kWh cost then,, 😬😅

Hi Ash, I often see large extra low voltage installations like yours in vans (where is the second Iveco? I just bought a 6.5t twin wheel to convert) Thing is as a sparky for over thirty years and now a fire alarm and extinguisher engineer I see things as 'risk' and it scares me to see so much combustible wood used to fix and support all the high current gear you have. One system short can see a copper wire glow red with heat before a fuse opens, we all understand the consequences of that... Just a heads up and friendly advice, use non combustible backing board to fit this gear and cables on, in a cupboard if possible, maybe an extinguisher bomb above it as well. There is so much wood in your house it scares me!!!! A good interlinked smoke detector system would help protect you, your loved ones and your property. I want to see you keep making videos I enjoy! Keep warm and safe all of you and I'm still waiting for the next live night with you and other half looking for the bottom of the whiskey bottle again! 👍😀🇬🇧

Hi Paul 👍 Both ivecos are still here. Thanks for the comment and well observed 😊 it's on my list to do haha, I also don't feel comfortable having that much kit strapped to osb! Not 100% what I'm going to use yet but will be non flammable of course. I've done my best for the time being using oversized cables and just the right fuse size to not pop 😅 we do have 10 smoke alarms around the house, 6 extinguishers and a few fire blankets just in case, also an indoor hose ready to go but yea, would prefer if it doesn't come to that!

That 350 sek cost is purely the petrol for the generator 😊 snowblower was working great! Until it broke... working on fixing it now though so hopefully be up and running soon

isn't themo electric just Peltier units. I bought a cheap 12V one as a cooler for my battery in Sommer. Im off grid south of södertälje in tiny house with 4000W Solar and just managing with 280Ah Li Surely a bunch of Peltier in parallel on the stove would provide a charge.

Exactly that! same thing that powers stove fans. The issue is they are very low power individually so have to have many connected together to actually get a usable charge. 100w would be plenty if running all day and would extend our charge intervals by weeks so I intend to look into these a lot further. Another issue is cooling one side properly so that they can function. Some of the units I've seen use water cooling which is pretty cool

Your Champion generator is vastly an overkill in your system if it can charge at 7000W (580A at 12 V) because your inverter is only charging at 60A wintertime and your two Victron chargers are also only charging at 2x30=60A. So why not get more or more powerfull chargers and run the generator 120/580 = almost a fifth of the time since your running cost is gasolin 9 hours a week?

We absolutely want to get bigger chargers! Bigger = more money though of course 😊 we bought the big gennie early to "future proof" ourselves against upgrading the charging systems. Don't forget that sometimes when it's on I also run a 2kw electric heater, big air compressor etc.

Have you thought about steam you could burn solid or liquid fuel & it would be quiet and you'd have boiling water on tap
