The wood worms look like Witchetty Grubs; a food source for indigenous Australians. They have a nutty flavour and can be eaten raw or roasted. Love your videos :)

Potatoes need regular watering especially in hay or you get very small Potatoes. Hope this helps.

Jungle toilet is coming along. I love how you are meticulous in how you both work. The attention to detail is wonderful. But what do you do with the grape skins that you compressed and put in a vat? Do you put that in your compost?

Grape skins are kept in our neighbour garage at the moment, when he’s back to Portugal we are taking them to a local distiller to make another traditional Portuguese liquor

Just a tip, those large plastic bags can be reused as garbage bags. I assume that you have to take your rubbish to a tip somewhere.

Hua hua grubs in NZ, a delicacy, not that I have tasted them, but apparently high in protein. I once nursed a man who had cut his foot open with a slasher, he had been cutting in his thong sandals. His job, Health and Safety Officer. Some people don't learn. Take care.

Because of the soil where you are located, I wondered why you didnt make the new raised beds shorter and given you more area to grow more things in a shorter raised bed.

The compost bays are looking great, if you can add a third to it that will be best option for you. Get No.1 filled up as quick as you can with a good mix of 'brown & green' material. Pack it down tight, then cover it and let it mature. Then you can fill No.3 up, once that is full you transfer No.1 into bay No.2 and start filling No.1 again. By then you will be in a good routine and in your own groove with it all. I hope that isn't too complicated an explanation. Adding manure to it is great and is classed as a green, whilst dried leaves are classed as browns, cardboard is also a brown. Your own compost will be hard to beat. Loving your updates, that sound of rain hitting the toilet roof took me back to childhood, 😄 brilliant. 👍🏼👍🏼

Oh right, I didn't think it was the Marateca, because of the wind turbines and high banks. We when swimming earlier this month and compared to July last year the Marateca was chilly at first. We visited our friends (Yorkshire to Portugal) who have property in Salgueiro Do Campo. Back home now, back to reality! @@portugalitis

Thanks for sharing another bit of ur life. Again is it wonderful to see how ur animals are part of ur life i am sorry to hear about ur elder cat not being open to ur younger ones. Hope she does not feel neglected in her twilight years. I like seeing how u repurpose and retask materials. These days we as a species are too wasteful. I hope ur potato experience will work out. Btw how r your roses ? Am truly happy you are finding happiness in Portugal. You are making what we call "farmer's wine"! Usually even the farmers that commercialise their DOC wines, usually make their own wine for their consumption by blending grapes varietals to their own taste. In all the years i grew n lived there i never drank a bad farmer's wine. Some times in my opinion better than DOC ones. Your farm is starting to look good. You are still in ur first year, but soon u will need to plan the cultures in ur farm depending on the seasons n plots of land. Sort of creating a culture plan. I assume ur priority is self consumption , but surely u will have surplus in some types of cultures which u can monetise. Your compost stall looks good!

Hi! I have made wine in past, using Italian grapes and it was lovely, much better then supermarket bought, regarding our wine next year will try to separate red and white grapes, we were not sure how many we are going to harvest and then neighbor gave his as well. We are already thinking of what and went to plant, just finished ploughing the land in the garden area and other 2 terraces today, will talk about it on the next video in more detail 👍
