LIVING OFF the GRID with all our FRIENDS | 13 years offgrid COMMUNITY | learning from mistakes
Ойын-сауық
Spend a day with us at The Garden, an intentional off-grid community in Tennessee. This ecovillage is a rest stop for nomads, where they can stay in tiny homes and converted school buses on shared land; experiencing a simple and sustainable off the grid life. In this episode we are transplanting asparagus, creating a tree nursery, tending to the chickens, and cooking farm fresh foods.
These days we are doing a weekly podcast with members of different intentional communities. Hit subscribe and click the bell to follow along!

Trust me, you may not think it on the whole, but having exposed them to being self reliant, and thinking outside the box will help them in ways they probably won't realize yet in life. Who knows, maybe a few decades down the line they might start to realize they have these skills and they'll be thankful.

I just finished the tv series and listened to a few of your podcasts. I find all of this so interesting. If I wasn't so dug in my lifestyle (family, work, raising children, health, etc), this would be such a fun adventure, even if it was just for a short while. The most I have taken from your experience so far is that we have one life to live, and we can live it however we want, as long as we are not hurting anyone else. This may not be my lifestlye, but you are giving hope and valuable information to others who would greatly benefit from this way of life.

This is a really lovely place. it is so nice to see young people being able to care for themselves and their children in a positive way. I am a senior citizen and I am moving to an intentional community here in my city. We have chickens and an organic garden. I have no family of my own, but I feel like I belong in this community. There are all ages there, which makes it interesting for me. I am always fascinated by other people and their lives and ideas. If we band together against capitalism it will fall and a new type of society will emerge. This community and ones like it are our future. Blessed Be from Canada.

I am a person who must wash myself and my clothes most regularly. Although I an not off grid I have set myself up to be just in case that becomes real someday. One of my pet projects is these two bath tubs I have in my yard that have fire pits under them. I have water in many forms, so no worries there. I regularly fill a tub and build a fire under it. I drain it to my garlic patch. This was a pretty interesting video. Lots of ideas. Too bad you can't stay for the winter to see what the whole year is like. Canning would be an interesting video.

To be able to sustain you , your family , live off the land in safety is God's gift. Preserving God's gift and we need to be aware of the chemicals at they put into chicken feed for decline in egg production , and sprays for alfalfa fields etc. Cows eat the hay we eat the meat, and the toxic manure that we get is loaded with chemicals that kills the soil for 15 years and your garden dies. So to able to grow food with clean soil and get away from industry foods is awesome. I wish you success and happiness .

Those trees behind you when picking for the soup are they yours? If so use the deadfall leaves to mulch with instead of straw. More nutrients and the local insect population will be more receptive. I don’t know what your compost looks like I’m new to your channel but layer leaves into that also if your not already. Straw tends to attract the carnivorous insects that devour greens you can also place lengths if garden hose just under the straw and earwigs and pull bugs will crawl in at night tap into bucket of water at dawn

You over cooked coconut milk and the leaves you just got from the garden. Always Pour the coconut milk at the end when you turn off the stove so you don’t burn all the nutrients the coconut gives you. Even the leaves you got from the Garden, put them at the end while the pot is still hot or let it simmer for a couple of minutes and then pour the coconut milk and turn it off and cover the pot.
