Off Grid Cabin Remodel: Removing A Wall, Beam Construction, Tongue And Groove
Ойын-сауық
Removed the center wall and built a beam to support the loft floor joists, and installed shiplap and tongue and groove in the kitchen and hallway. Our off grid cabin is looking a lot different. #diy #homestead #offgrid

Honestly dude, I've been planning on building a cabin in the back of my 20 acres homestead for the past couple years... you were one of my inspirations for how I was gonna do it. I appreciate your constant improvement and advancement. I've been here since the beginning, and I'll be here till the end. Keep it up bud! Much love from a NY homesteader! Plain & Simple Farm.

What you guy need is a kitchen island

I was thinking the same thing. Then you would have a table/place to sit and eat. Prep space is so necessary. 😊

Can't stand kitchen island's just make a foldable dinning table it's out the way when not needed plus more space

@leighmonty13 islands are nice but in an intimate space I'd like to keep things as open as possible, it would drive me nuts having an immovable piece of furniture that is also highly useful.
I'm sure building a kitchen island would set off the kitchen area perfectly. Regards from Scotland ❤️
Looks great! Never realized how much that wall needed to go. Good choice!!
Looks very good without that wall in the middle. Improvements are looking really nice. Excited to see the final products!
Y’all are my fav couple.. I’m a ballet dancer, but I LOVE camping, bears, wolves, campfires, outdoors in general. You make it work for both situations! Totally incredible!💓💓💓
You make everything look so easy! I bought 120 acres at the angle. I hike in a quarter mile. It’s amazing. People criticize me, but you use solar and catch all your water. I know we can make it beautiful. You talk about not being in debt and living peacefully. It’s boat or snow mobile access only. But it’s so beautiful. The bugs are thick but after we are there a bit and shoe them away they get less and less around where our home will be built. Thanks for your inspiration!

Sounds like a blast. I’ll be patiently waiting for an invite!
Looks great. I was never quite sure why you put the wall in in the first place
I can't believe how you do all this work yourself. You must have been glad to have Sierra back. Everything looks great.
I never understood why you put that center wall in. Would be nice to have an island with stool access as a little separation from the kitchen to the living room. Great Job.
I REALLY like the light wood! Looking very bright and good!
You are incredible! Thoroughly enjoying this !!
LOL that butterfly was an awesome touch to your video
I love how open the cabin is now that the wall is gone. Can't wait to see the end result!!!
It looks great! Living in a construction zone is hard and frustrating. And construction in a living area is harder. Been there, done that. I feel for you. But the end is going to look so good!
That turned out great! Having it brighter like that really seems to make it look roomier as well
You do good work. From all that I see you do, it seems that you have a lot of hidden construction skills.
You're making quite a beautiful home! Y'all are hard workers and it's paying off!
What a great job you have done Kyle! You are a very good carpenter! Love the open concept in your place! Much brighter also! Can’t wait to see the finished product! ❤
U we're born a King Bee, u pollinate no matter what you do! Yr looking well, I'm pleased to always see what yr up to.🤍
I like ''space'' too...When you first built it, i thought ''bet he takes that dividing wall down again one day''.... Looks so much better as one room again... Nice job :-)

I thought the same thing once I built it haha.
Big project, but it’s coming along nicely! The inside of the Cabin looks so different all opened up! Going to be great being able to use that living space.
Kyle…we need more young me like you. Todays kids don’t have mentors. You’d be a good one teaching young men how to do things. You do such a beautiful job. Your lady is lucky to have you.
Great job Kyle for the renovations. Its much brighter and more finished. It will look great when all is done. Until your next video, take care and be safe.(Judy NB)🌲🇨🇦
Such a good and hard worker. You obviously are not afraid of hard work. The result will be magnificent !
You are amazing. Such energy and great workmanship! Love the look without the middle wall and the room brightness from the light wood.
It amazes me to see how much you know how to do and that you do it on your own, for the most part. Well done Kyle.
Kyle & Cierra happy to see you. The cabin is beautiful, nice and roomy. You’re always working hard on your projects. Your place will be there for a very long time.
Classy Kyle, 100% improvement. It needed that “ face lift “ Btw. I used to do messy projects when I was alone. Love the flooring idea. Did the same with a loft floor made with shiplap. Great ideas when the $ are missing. Overall, Ciera should be happy with the outcome.
Lovely job Kyle! Amazing transformations that you're doing! Thank you for your regular updates!😀
I love what you have done so far, looking forward to seeing the finished result. Great job !
It looks wonderful you sure did a good job on it looks a lot bigger brighter can’t wait to see the rest of it.❤
Put another post in under your wires. Build a narrow table in between the 2 post. Kitchen table. Better then nothing i gess. You got choices now. Chose wisely grasshopper lol
Wow Kyle & Cierra! Love the new interior look and vibe! Beautiful job done Kyle! Nice! Keep up the good work and best wishes! Cheers!😁🍺🌻
Looking great! I feel like white painted trim would look really classy!
Spar varnish is what they use on decks of ships and boats. It is water proof and won't mar on the floor. Your cabin is very hansome
I did the same thing at my cabin last year by removing a load bearing wall between my living room and kitchen. I put a big bar in that area with tons of storage and counter space. It's a big improvement.
The shelves in the kitchen is a great idea! The place looks so bright and open. Nice job all around!
Looks great Kyle, really lightens up the cabin. I really enjoy your videos,I’ve been following you for a few years. Looking forward to your next video. Thank you for sharing.
I'm impressed by you in every video. Your homestead is coming along beautifully. 🏡
Wow you are so talented. I like the improvements. Much brighter and made it look much bigger and homey.
Looking fantastic, Kyle! The kitchen kooks much brighter and I love how open the room is!
This was a great idea. It is looking great thus far. It is going to be easier for y'alI to move around the inside of your cabin. like the idea of the tongue and groove on the ceiling as well. Cannot wait for the next update. Great job Kyle.
Looks good Kyle just like it did before you put that wall up but it’s cleaner looking with that shiplap on the walls and the wall cupboards gone.
It looks so much more comfortable. Love it!!
I love what you have done. The cabin is so much brighter.
As Always... Kyle you make EVERYTHING Look so Customized, Neat & Tidy!!!! That is one SHARP CABIN that ALOT of people would love to live in
Where is Skeeter and Kitty? Your home is looking beautiful!
Looks great. And those boards will get a new life.
I am a 58 yr old black lady and a teacher. I'm born in the island of Jamaica. But.. Been living in U.S from 9 yrs old! Kyle, kudos to you and all the folks that have or are choosing the LIFE they want outside of the scam and overworked stressful life we have been put in place by the hieracy in society. I'm over it! Living off grid, van or camper life is pretty much living as it was and exiting from the monthly bills or limiting them. Plus.. Living off the land and healthier peaceful living! I pray that I will get a cottage home to just live minimal and grow my veggies. Get more organic poultrys by a nearby farmer..etc.. The synthetic meat that's coming plus all the gmos in foods I may turn vegan!!
Awesome work! Love the open concept now. Always look forward to your next videos.
Looks great Kyle! The plywood looks good on the floor and the shiplap on the walls look good too! It’s definitely gonna lighten up the space! Lookin forward to seeing the finished space! ✌🏼❤️🙏🏼
We're older, as time goes by the scale of things has increased on our Alaska homestead. Eventually it's logging equipment, bulldozer and backhoe, a sprawling empire of snowmobiles, ATV's, boats, dirt bikes, and a Supercub parked out front. Hubby and the boys keep adding buildings, we have a spare 16 x 20 two story house with basement. Without any debt, without heating bills, with 40-60 salmon a year, a moose, other game, and a big garden... if you have decent income you can pay cash for big ticket items. We have a 600 gallon outdoor hot tub system with two tubs (kids and adults) It's something we do almost every winter night, but it takes as much wood as the main cabin to heat. It's a snorkel stove. The shop is 24 x 50 and that also takes quite a bit of wood because the kids are always working on machines. We logged all the trees for the buildings and milled the lumber, made the concrete ourselves by screening gravel and mixing it on site. Homeschool turned out to be an incredible advantage. Our 13 year old was admitted to the University in what would have been his 7th grade year, he's on full scholarship in engineering. His younger brother is just as far ahead of his peers, but he's mechanically inclined and doing trades. We have to take our 13 year old to town for his exams at the University, it's like an insane cult world that is very hostile towards straight white males. The kids thank us every day for not warehousing them in the local K-8 government school. Attendance there has dropped from over 120 to 33 in 15 years because everyone is homeschooling to escape woke indoctrination. Look how modern culture says kids are too expensive to have. Actually no, they can be productive and add value to the household by 4 and 5 years old. They dropped an engine in my Subaru for me when they were 11 and 12, replaced the rear end on our logging truck, and just finished a repair on our newer truck the town dealer quoted $3k for. They are assets, not liabilities.
I'm sure you are watching all over KZread for others who live in off grid cabins like yours...finally remembered another KZreadr that has very similar objectives that you have...thought I'd mention that site on the off chance you hadn't seen it. My Self Reliance is the other site you might check out if you have not already done so. Thanks for all of your content. Really enjoy it.
That’s looks amazing and a lot bigger… Great job 👏
That's funny, I just watched the remodel where you put that wall up (and extended the loft) the other day.
Wow!! Looks so great Kyle! 👍
Looking good my friend!
The cabin transformation looks awesome! The projected changes will be great as well. The plywood on the floors looks great, it'll be interesting to see the longevity of it. Love what ya'll are doing ❤
yer classing the joint up kid...cool beans.
Much love to yous, tell Cierra I say hi! -Jade💜
Great video as always. Awesome job on the remodeling.
Nice job Kyle. I like the open-concept look.
Kyles look very nice good job take care guys.
Great work young man you make it look so easy, but it's hard work. God bless love you New Zealand
1" industrial pipe, and run the power down the beam and post. Put the light switch on the post. Looks good man.
Wow Kyle, this is really outstanding! It looks so cozy and inviting even tho it’s so open. I love it! Can’t wait to see it completed.
The cabin remodel is looking Great ! Cool Monarch Butterfly ! They are beautiful !
I've been binge watching your videos. I admit I didn't care for that wall from the start. It worked for the kitchen, but made the living room look claustrophobic. You all had a lot of stuff hanging on that wall on the kitchen side that you'll have to find a place for. I would suggest a half wall between the support post to push the island and butcher block tables up against and open hanging shelves from the beam. You don't lose the storage space and still have an open concept.
A couple nice throw carpets on that floor and the contrast will be great!
That turned out great on the inside!
Looking good. Can’t wait to see completion.🎉
Man that looks awesome kyle. So much brighter in there. Way to go.
Looks so good. Can't believe wait for the big reveal of the finish.
Looking good Kyle. Looks much better opened up. Gonna be great when its finished. Thanks for the video.
I just got to say you know that you can save them two by fours a lot better if you use a hacksaw through the nails on the ends of them instead of trying to pull that way you don’t break your wood up. You will have nails in the ends of the boards, but that won’t stop you from being able to use the whole board again I know from experience.😂❤❤
I am so glad I came across your channel! :)
Very creative remodel. Looks good.
I think I broke a record for emphatic WOWs watching this video. Amazing work, Kyle! I love your videos! Thanks so much for sharing them!
Wow it did brighten it up and I like the open rooms better too! You both are talented, and your cabin is very cozy, warm and welcoming. Looking forward to the final video.
I think it looks really nice! Kyle you are such a hard worker!! I love all of your videos. The butterfly was absolutely gorgeous!! I love nature too! I can’t wait to see the next video. Many blessings to you and Ciera ♥️♥️
I myself like the open room concept, really looks great. Congrats job well done.

I am in the process of moving on a few nice acres of land. My parents moved to the big city before I was born. I'm going back to a life that I can control myself.
I like the way you think Kyle
Looks fantastic Kyle.😊
Kyle nice changes, looks great! You moved that sink just like a guy. Loved it. Why take all the stuff out. My wife would have taken everything out, washed it, put it away and then washed the sink before I could rip it out. 😃🤣👍👍
Looks good Kyle, thanks for the video.
Really brightens and opens up the room. Looks great. I would run a pair of 14-2 over to front door for the light switch for kitchen lights. Or maybe a 3-way switch over by stove. Thanks for sharing

Looks great without the wall
Nice and bright. I'm surprised you didn't make that a half wall in the first place, allowing the light in aa well as a place to have a counter workspace and cabinets. You are so skillful, Kyle. Great work.
Looks great it opened back up xxx
Great content as usual Kyle, been waiting all week for this one kitchen looks way better more open, great job on the floor
It's looking great Kyle
