The term for the taper you cut is "distal taper": when something gets thinner over distance, not just narrower.

Also, a thing for the future; Materia are generally depicted as smooth polished orbs, without facets. I haven't seen them lately, but Michael's used to carry these colored translucent hemispheres as pebbles for decorative fishbowl or vases. Those might be a good option.

@@darklordofsword They're called cabochons, and can be painted with acrylic paint, nail polish or alcohol ink from the back.

Love this build! Great job! On the FF7 theme, what about making Vincent Valentine's Death Penalty gun from Dirge of Cerberus?

Who knew Yuffie needs “The Dove of Peace” on her weapons too.

Awesome. If we continue the FF7 props I think Cid's Spear could be next followed by Vincent's Cerberus and glove, and I do think a full body suit for Caith Sith's Mog would be a hoot.

For weapons from 7, I say either an arm and/or gun for Vincent, Cid's javelin, or one of Aerith's staffs. Maybe a megaphone from Cait Sith if you need a quicker/easier project for a particular week.

How about making Gimli's Helmet from Lord of the Rings

I’d be interested in seeing you build the Staff of Parthalan, as I believe it’s called, from Dragon Age 2, as well as the various Organization XIII weapons and the other Power Ranger weapons. Not just the core team’s weapons, but also the Dragon Dagger, Saba, and the Sword of Darkness.

Would love to see something from The Legend of Dragoon. It was a Sony made RPG, trying to compete with Square after the success of ff7. It was dwarfed by ff8. But it has some really cool weapon and armor designs.

For future Final Fantasy builds, I think Vincent's triple barrel gun Cerberus would be interesting to make. If you want to stick to the remake though you could always make Aerith's staff.

I wonder of they make fidget spinners with holes that big, because if they do I imagine it would make a pretty effective center for a project like this, I like what you did, it just had me thinking. Throw it, throw it, throw it!

Nice! The prop we had for our fan film in 2005 was basically all wood or fiberboard and had some heft to it. I'm not sure if I'd prefer a foam one or not if we had to do it again, but this one definitely has a lot finer detail.

We gotta suggest Harbor Freight to not precut holes in their knee pad foams hehe. I think I can get similar cuts w/ a scroll saw comparable to your ban saw once I get the blade working- cool build

Have you ever thought about making/buying a rip sled for your band saw to get smoother cuts and reduce the amount of clean up? Depending on how the spacing is you may be able to use it on your disk sander too for even more repeatability.

How about the Monowire Cyberware from Cyberpunk 2077 as a project..seen plenty of Mantis Blades being made but not one single one for the monowire. It should be a pretty simple thing since it's an underarm mounted spool for the wire..just really fancy looking. The official art book has a page about it, plus the Cyberpunk 2020/2077 wiki has a picture of that page in their gallery for reference.
